Had such a great time here!! The staff is so nice, we had great conversation as well. There were so many great choices and the seafood mac and cheese was amazing!!! I was staying at a bed & breakfast just 5 min away, and they had suggested to check out The Cotter Pin. So glad I decided to stop in for dinner. Everything from the food to the service was above and beyond. I ordered pretzel bites as an appetizer & the bacon mac n cheese for food. Beer was a Blue Moon, so that was just as expected. I enjoyed the flavor of the food and freshness. Everything came out quickly as well and was nice and hot. I was in on Sunday Night, and it wasn't too busy. I sat at the bar, watched football and enjoyed conversation with the bartender. I think his name was Michael. He did a fantastic job. I felt welcome, even though I wasn't a local. That was pretty cool since a few other places I went on this trip didnt have as friendly vibes. I highly recommend this place! Hope to stop back by next time I'm in the area.

I have been passing this place for a few years when i started traveling to Cashton. I have been curious since day one. Always en route w a plan in mind i didnt have time to stop. After seeing a facebook post last week that included a glimpse of their taps i decided to make time to stop in today, Friday. I was suspecting a Townie bar.... pleasantly surprised to find that was not the case. It is a welcoming cabin-esque vibe upon entering then you're greeted by friendly bartenders!
They have a nice selection of spirits as well as a tap selection to please any palate. I was headed to lunch so i didnt even browse a menu. I did glance at the specials board which listed a few soup offerings and a parmasean crusted cod. I will definitely be back. We ate supper here in early September of 2025. The atmosphere was great with a country cabin feel. The food was delicious. We had a large group that ordered a wide variety of menu items. I had boneless wings in Garlic Parm sauce (no fries), it was very good. My son had bacon Mac-n-Cheese, and he loved it. Staff service and hospitality was great. There is also a small corner where small items are sold, like syrup, candles, shirts, etc.

I visited The Cotter Pin in Leon with high hopes—the space is charming and the menu looked promising. But from the moment I walked in, the experience felt off.

No one greeted me when I entered—just a few awkward stares—so I made my way to the bar on my own. Not long after, other guests walked in and were immediately greeted and seated, which made the lack of welcome I received even more noticeable.

I asked for Knob Creek bourbon (a pretty standard choice), and when they didn’t have it, I went with Elijah Craig. A man sitting at the bar chimed in with, “You must be having a bad day,” just from my drink order—then doubled down when I mentioned I’m from Kentucky. It felt unnecessary and weirdly judgmental.

I ordered a pizza, which was served straight on the tray with no plate, silverware, or napkins. I ended up using the small drink napkins from the bar’s straw holder because nothing else was offered. Meanwhile, the couple next to me received full place settings with their pizza. The difference in treatment felt intentional or at least neglectful.

After I finished my drink, the bartender began preparing a to-go box and brought it over without asking, which I took as a subtle cue to leave.

Whether it was being solo, out-of-town, or something else, I didn’t feel welcome. Hospitality is about the small details—and in this case, they were missing.

I was in the area for work for several weeks. I often try to sample various places to eat wherever I am working. That being said, it is rare that I find it necessary to leave a review. 3 times I stopped here to eat. First visit: The Cuban was not what I would consider a great "Cuban" sandwich, but it was a fantastic sandwich nonetheless. 2nd visit: I tried the Rueben and the 3rd time I had the Beef and Cheddar. Each time expecting it to be not as good as the previous. After 3 visits, it is my honest belief that their is nothing on their menu that is less than fantastic! Portions are perfectly satisfying without making you feel uncomfortable. It was not very busy each time I was there, service was quick and food was promptly delivered! If you are in the area, it is worth the stop!

Staff: The staff greeted us when we walked in. Immediately we were approached with menus and our drink orders were taken. After what seemed like a second we had our drinks and our orders were in.

Building: building is spacious and very well taken care of. The bathrooms are clean.

Food: Good was amazing. The boneless BBQ wings were perfectly cooked. The Habanero bone in wings had great flavor and were the perfect amount of spice. I joke that I won’t eat anything hotter than water, but I ate these and didn’t regret it. But, what is the best thing ever was the appetizer, Juusto. We each order one, the regular, bacon, and the Parmesan. The Parmesan was perfectly flavored. Essentially it’s a cubed up block of cheese with flavors made within in. I am glad we got three orders. One order per person was about right. We were all grown, hungry dudes, so take that into consideration. Lastly, any of their Mac and cheese meals are good.

Parking: plenty of parking.

Star rating: 5 because of the price, the staff, and the amazing food.

While visiting the area we were looking for places to buy gifts to take home. The campground map had a small ad for this place along with others, so we drove there only to find that all that is left of the gifts is a table with a few remaining items. The Woman who asked if she could help when we looked confused said that they were getting out of the gifts.

A bus group reservation for 54 people turned into a horror movie. We arrived to find the restaurant double booked. They gave our tables and chairs away to another group. The waitress was very rude. Treated the guests terrible. They treated us like we intruded. We had to serve ourselves, and eat standing up. Very un-professional. Reservation made months in advance. Several follow up calls and reminders made. Another call to the Cotter Pin 20 minutes before the arrival. Told they were ready for us. What a surprise we got. Another group in our seats. We happened upon this local bar/grill when on vacation and not really knowing what was in the area...and we hit the jackpot. Smoked prime rib is awesome - generous portion but smoked to the point where you almost can’t taste the meat. Overall a must for visitors in the area.

Had a fantastic meal at the Cotter Pin last night! We were looking for a new place to try and this fit the bill. Even as we walked in from the parking lot there was a very nice gentleman that held the door open for us (the owner maybe?). Charter had gone out so they didn't have TVs or card machine but the ATM still worked. The prime rib for us and pizza for the kids was excellent! The atmosphere was great and everyone working there was SO friendly and nice! We're definitely going back!

The Cotter Pin was a pretty mediocre experience for me. I did not have good service and the food was just okay. I had a waitress who ignored me for a majority of the time I was there and did not check on me until I went up to the bar to ask for the tab. I ordered a reuben sandwich, and it's like they cooked the meat on a stove before they put it on my sandwich because it was very tough like jerky and hard to take a bite without pulling the whole slab of meat out of my sandwich. The menu has a great selection, it just seems like it was executed poorly. There's lots of potential here but I just didn't get what I expected from it at all.

The food was good but service was horrible. Our waitress had a bad attitude from the start. The entire table had finished our drinks by the time our food was brought out and we were never offered more drinks. Waitress did not check in on us again until about 10 minutes after we had all finished our food, we had nothing to drink the entire time. One of us even tried going up to the bar where she was standing to ask if we could get more drinks and when she saw us coming she walked back into the kitchen to avoid us. I completely understand that many businesses are understaffed right now and places can get busy, but they were not busy at the time and we could see her standing around behind the bar not helping anyone. Then when we got our bill everyone at the table was charged for double shot drinks when not one of us had ordered a double. By this point we just wanted to leave and didnt feel like arguing, so we just paid the extra and left. The people working the bar seemed very friendly and helpful, it was only the waitress we had issues with.
