What a great outdoor space to enjoy a summer evening. The patio area is just off the sidewalk in a quiet area. It feels private but still allows for people watching. We joined some friends for a cocktail and some pan nachos. The nachos were loaded with goodness.

Not a vegan recommendation. If I recall the only purely vegan option were plant based chicken tenders in the kids section, which is cool but that was the only option. I ordered an altered salad which was accommodated. If you are vegan here you are getting the tenders or salad.

The salad was okay, but quite pricey for the value.

The staff were okay, a little blunt. They didn’t radiate kindness.

We stopped by The Free House and got an outside table for dinner on Friday night. We had a good smash burger and a cod plate. The food was very good and the outside seating was also very good. This was a great little place in Middleton, WI. If you get the chance, sit outside on the patio. The night was beautiful, and we had little fireflies lighting up the night. A perfect summer meal. Free House Pub has ample outdoor seating in their courtyard patio and some additional tables along the side of the restaurant. I briefly walked through the restaurant, plenty of tables to be found. Everyone working was friendly and engaged. It's a very approachable establishment, while having an upscale twist on most of their entrees. The tequila lime chicken is a culinary delight, along with the fields salad. Freshness is a mantra here, whoever is running the kitchen is creative while trying to keep you healthy. Maggie was a phenomenal server, very attentive and prompt. She made her rounds frequently without lingering too long. The portions are generous yet not overwhelming. More than anyone should eat in a meal, but so delicious that you will want to. I did not have room for desert, but saw several appealing options on the menu. They have an extensive bar and broad selection of beer, I would expect some great cocktails are available. Prices are in-line for the quality of the ingredients and the atmosphere.

If you haven't been to the Free House since before Covid, you haven't really been to the Free House.

The menu has some really unique items. The spicy cheese curds are my favorite curds in all of Dane Co. And the inferno jerk shrimp has loads of flavor (and spice). I've had both the Smash Burger and the Black & Bleu Smash Burger, and you won't go wrong with either. Gooey and satisfying.

The bartenders and waitstaff were positive, helpful with recommendations, and overall had a great energy - like they enjoyed what they do.

I can't say enough good things about this place. I'm proud to have something this good in a city I call home.

Last Friday at 4 pm, I visited this neighborhood pub with about 10 coworkers, and we were instantly taken by the cozy ambiance and warm welcome. The pub offered an impressive range of tap and canned beers, alongside skillfully mixed drinks that catered to every taste.

Things change... In this case, definitely for the better! Early pandemic decimated this restaurant. I'm very pleased to share that they've completely turned things around, and the change has stuck through several visits. The menu has been refreshed, the drinks have been tweaked, and the taps list is as strong as ever. Further, they seem to be back to full strength staffing-wise, and servers are very well trained and attentive. The food is, above all, once more very consistent, and some of the new items are just lovely, only building out a great menu. The breading on the walleye is back to normal (aka, no slippage/undercooking), too, which pleases me to no end!

One of the most disappointing dining experiences we have had in quite some time. Waited 45 min for our food to come out. Server did not give any updates or say anything about it. Food came out and hot sandwiches/fries were cold. Asked for salad with dressing on the side and it came with dressing on it(no apology). I'll start by saying that I've never had a problem with the food. It has always been delicious.

This last time we went, we had the misfortune of being seated near the back bar. The woman working it, (I may not have gotten the spelling correct) had a generally unpleasant attitude most of the evening. There was evidently some confusion with her assignment, and she even said when we were being seated "Okay who's table is this? Is this one mine or what?".

From there, things got more heated, as she seemed to have a bad mood attending to her tables. She used much profanity when discussing things with her coworkers, and we even noticed our waitress was visibly uncomfortable after her interaction. Three separate people came to talk to her about it. After they'd walk away, she continued to mutter about it to herself, again using profanity.

I'm sure I'll be back, but probably actively avoiding that area. Or her entirely. I think I would just leave if I was anywhere near her.

We absolutely love Free House in Middleton. Their friendly staff and creative and delicious menu make it a regular visit for our family. The best part is that they have a dedicated gluten-free fryer for their French fries, which means our daughter with Celiac Disease can enjoy French fries, a rare treat since most restaurants in the Madison area do not offer this perk. I just wish the management would notify the waitstaff about the gluten-free fryer since we’ve had two back to back servers unaware of this offering. Also, the beer list is wonderful but so chaotic - we wish the beers were listed by type to make it easier to read and select a beer. Get the smash burger! It’s perfection.
