My boyfriend and I had dinner here during our 3-night stay at a nearby Airbnb, and wow - this place is fantastic! The food absolutely blew us away. We shared everything (which made it feel like a feast), and still had some leftovers - totally worth it.

The food here is excellent — flavorful, well-prepared, and fairly priced. Unfortunately, the dining experience suffers from the atmosphere. The noise level is overwhelming, turning what could be an enjoyable meal into a test of endurance. As the night wears on and the drinks flow, the volume rises to a near-deafening roar. Tables are packed tightly together, and the poor acoustics amplify every shout and clatter of cutlery.

If you’re coming for great food, you’ll find it here. But if you value conversation or a relaxed ambiance, you might want to take your meal to go.

We come here regularly and usually have had no problems. Today however we came for lunch and experienced an exceedingly long wait to be served and when all of the people sitting around us who had come after us got their food and we were still waiting for ours we had to ask one of the staff where our food was. I think they somehow missed our order. We were not happy with our experience which is not normal but hopefully this will not happen again or to anyone else.

Alright, I've been here about 5 or more times now. The atmosphere is cool if you like it, but it's not quite for me. The waiters are nice enough, no complaints.

However, the reason I give it two stars is because three of those five times my order is either wrong or the food is so incredibly burnt that it was inedible. I usually have to go back to the wait staff and ask them to give me the rest of my order or to have them recook something because I tried to eat it and it just tastes like charcoal.

For a $20 to $30 a person kind of restaurant, kind of unacceptable. That's the reason I'm giving it two stars.

The service is great. The atmosphere is pleasant. But the food is extremely overpriced and not good quality. The cheese curds were good - they better be for the price and quantity. The drinks are average. The entrees are awful. I had the Irish BLT, which has pork belly in place of bacon and it's impossible to bite through. The sandwich just falls apart and the pork belly is not good. We also tried the chicken fried steak and it was very disappointing. Too sweet, the mashed potatoes seemed like instant. If you're going to charge for fine dining, you have to have fine dining quality and this was barely fast food quality.

We ate here twice while we stayed at The American Club. We went out to Whistling Straits for dinner and after not being served we went back here and had the best service! The truffle fries and cheese curds are delicious! The pank drank was also great. Sunday we were there during happy hour and the server did not know the deals and were charged incorrectly. Service was slow. Food was alright. Food came out wrong, mistakes happen. Server seemed a bit all over the place. As a former server, take a deep breath. It's not that serious.
Also, if you want a margarita it will be $14 + $3 for the juice in a small glass. Never asked which tequila I wanted and charged me for a more expensive one. I wouldn't come back. Gave 3 stars because I understand how it can be sometimes and want to see the best in things.

That said,the truffle fries were superb as were the normal fries.

We have a son with Allergies (which can be a pain & have challenges) however, the Exec Chef PERSONALLY 👨‍🍳 got off the line in His kitchen and came to our table to personally talk to us about our 18 year old sons allergies. Went with a group of 4. 2 of us got the Walleye fish fry. Less than impressed. The breading belongs on chicken Parmesan. I had so many bones in mine. Coleslaw tastes like pure Mayo. I recently visited the Horse & Plow at 419 Highland Dr, in Kohler, WI. I was told this was a restaurant to visit if I was in the area. Well, it's a beautiful restaurant set one floor down..The bar is beautiful and it was a joy drinking my old fashion there. The bartender was entertaining and helpful with my menu selection. I ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwich which was delicious. It is certainly a great place to visit.

Update: It is with much displeasure that I must modify my review of one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Dropping from 5 stars to 2 for the following reasons:

Menu Changes - Getting rid of the iconic plow and bison burgers was unacceptable. The new menu has far less choices.

Prices: $12 burgers are now over $20. An order of cheese curds was nearly $20. For two people, without alcohol, the bill was almost $100... unreal.

Location: Great setup of TVs, friendly staff, professional. Didn't wait long for the food, and the food was pretty good, but the fries are now lower quality... not the signature horse and plow fries. Why did you get rid of the female art poster in the men's bathroom?

Being an avid supporter of this business since they opened, it really saddens me to have to downgrade my review. We are not likely to ever return.

Vintage "speak easy" if you will. In the basement so you get zero cell reception, but also Johnny law can't come in and take my drink anymore... Kids eat free on Wednesday. 5 dimond food at 3 star price. Stopped in with some friends at The Horse & Plow and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The decor and theme are very cool, adding to the experience. The food itself was very good, and we all left satisfied. The one downside was the slow service—both our meals and waitress took quite a while. However, the waitress was very apologetic and did her best to make things right, which we appreciated. For reference, we were there for lunch and ended up spending almost two hours at the restaurant, which seemed unusually long. Despite this, it was an enjoyable experience overall.

Terrible food and wait times given the price. Every time I’ve been there, we’ve waited 30-45 minutes after ordering for our food despite the restaurant being practically empty. They recently simplified their menu and raised prices. With this change, the food went from okay to appalling. My brioche bun was super dry and the rest of the burger was flavorless. Nobody else in my group was happy with their food. Before, I was able to look past the food and enjoy the fun, historical ambiance of the place but I’m really tired of Kohler selling mediocre food (and products) under the pretense of it being luxurious. I am very pleased to be able to amend my prior review from some years ago. My wife and I stayed up in Kohler and took our daughter to horse and plow for dinner.

It’s as good, if not better, than my childhood memories. Thankfully, it seems, management has really brought a caring hand to the restaurant.

We had the most inattentive wait staff we have ever experienced in any restaurant ever, especially one of this caliber. We had to ask for everything, nothing was offered, from the menu to the bill. And everything in between. The wait times were extraordinary even though they were not busy during this weekday lunch time. It was so nice on a Friday Night we decided to have a later Dinner, we went to the restaurant around 9:30pm and ordered the cheese curds (recommended from a friend) they were amazing and super filling couldn't finish the portion between the two of us, so we took the rest home. First of all, the food is fantastic. My brother and I had the Chicken Sandwich and the Shrimp Po-boy. The chicken was juicy, the shrimp crispy, and the sauces chosen to pair were a perfect complement. You go down south for the same and it has that homey hole-in-the-wall kind of easy comfort, but what sets it apart is the choice of bun. I don't know if H&P makes their own from scratch, premade, or prepackaged, and I don't know what it is about Wisconsin, but we know how to pair all this goodness with the perfect carb.

As to service, the workers I've dealt with are professional, friendly, and often knowledgeable about the other parts of Kohler waiting to be explored. I also like that I'm not constantly badgered. I was here to catch up with my brother and our conversation was rarely interrupted, but I also did not feel neglected. It's plain to see the pride Kohler puts into hiring and training charismatic hardworkers. The staff is definitely worth above and beyond the 20% tip.

Lastly, atmosphere and ambiance. I like the cozy pub look, but it definitely is far from a normal pub ambiance. It's warm and buzzing. I don't think I've ever been here on a slow night. I like the food, I like the service, and I like bringing friends and family here for a casual night of reliably good food and drinks, except--and this is NOT H&P's fault--the one thing that is occasionally uncomfortable are the other customers. Every once in a while you'll get a weird vibe paired with a lingering gaze if you don't obviously match the normal Kohler standards, which is a strange double standard considering the number of non-Kohler people are employed in the kitchens, spa, and hospitality. I can't comment on the exact reason for the weird vibes I get off the other customers. I've met plenty of kind, down-to-earth people in Kohler, and I like to do my own thing because my business is mine and their business is theirs but it's been palpable enough on a number of occasions to comment on. There's really not much you can do about it except shrug it off.

All in all, H&P is a great community staple. Don't let the occasional weird vibes deter you from treating yourself to good food and service.

Classic pub with a great atmosphere and food! Went here with cousins and enjoyed lunch. Bloody Mary was amazing and it came with a chaser (how it should but so many places skip!) and the BLT was to die for. Service was very good.

Sunday evening, and looking for a good place to go out to dinner? Horse snd plow does not disappoint. Not many options on a Sunday evening, but I am glad we choose horse and plow. Food was delicious. We were sat over by the fireplace, exactly what I needed on a cold and snowy night.
Only thing I was not a fan of was the TV. I don't like the distraction, but I know many other people enjoy them.
Service was great. Our waitress was genuine and sweet.
