Amazing customer service! We came with our two kids and this place just felt so homey, they had a great cheeseburger special that came with ice cream and just the sweetest staff. It was close to closing time and they kept telling us no rush and wanted to ensure we enjoyed our meal. Absolutely recommend!

First time here. Came with a small group for breakfast. It's s small standalone building, with large front windows. To the right of it is "The Parlor" which I think is a bar. (Inside is an open doorway that connected the two) Inside is a breakfast counter, and then table that go towards the rear. It's a bit narrow at the back, giving you a bit more privacy, and quiet.

Inside we got greeted by a friendly host. Got us to a table towards the back. There were fans blowing, so we ended up moving tables. We got waters, menus, and placed our drink orders. The service was friendly and efficient.

Ordered a Belgian Waffle, Pancakes with Eggs, and some BlueBerry Pancakes. Everything came out quickly. Hot, and Tasty. We were expected that the BlueBerry pancakes would have had the blueberries in the pancakes. Also, the picture of the Belgian Waffle showed whipped cream, and some fruit, but the what came was just plain. (not a big deal, just different than shown).

My husband and I used to come here years ago when it was M&Ms. We were in town, so we stopped and realized it had changed but tried it anyway. The service and atmosphere were good but the food, not so much. I had an omelet and he had a skillet. We couldn't put our finger on what was wrong with the flavors, but it was off. Maybe in the future, I would give it a 2nd chance and would change my review if it applies.

Excellent! Actually, it's our favorite spot to go for breakfast. We haven't tried the other foods on the menu, but we see the dishes as they pass by us. They look mouth watering. From my perspective, they had a rough start and I didn't think the restaurant would stay open. Thank goodness they did. Their menu has so many choices, breakfast all day, great service, very clean atmosphere, and the building even expanded to better serve the needs of their patrons. I like the fact that the owners walk around and talk with you and make sure everything is to your liking. "the" Kitchen is a must stop. I'm glad things worked out, and I'm glad I went back again.

Our first time there, and we loved it! I went here for breakfast, and asked for the eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce was absolutely awful. It looked like something puked on the top of my poached eggs. And had no flavor. The hashbrowns were mushy. The poached eggs were cooked nicely however, and the bacon i got as a side was good. I will not be ordering this here again. Sticking to basic eggs and bacon for the next time.

The weekend staff are awesome! The weekday staff seem to be disorganized and doing too many things for a single person’s workload. I watched as they had one waitress working for 13 people (7 separate tables). Two employees were sitting on a break while the one young lady worked. In addition, an older female employee was sitting on the bench while on her cellphone (maybe on break, not sure). I felt bad for the single waitress. I don’t know her name but she was tall, brunette and had a clip in her hair. She was doing the best she could do!

This morning my puppy Bella and I walked over to The Kitchen located on Main St in Sussex! We ordered food to go and the staff was so friendly and accommodating but that is besides the point! Bella had eggs and sausage which she couldn’t of had enough of and I honestly had the BEST PANCAKES i’ve ever had ( made with chocolate chips and bananas) I have no affiliation with this restaurant and this isn’t a sponsored post I simply just wanted to write a review on the pancakes because I was super impressed and am rarely impressed! You must order the pancakes especially if you work from home and just want to treat ya self in the morning for a breakfast you don’t have to cook!:D I really hope they add outdoor seating or a picnic table so Bella and I can eat outside! Great family restaurant. We had breakfast entrees at lunchtime and everyone was happy. I had the hash browns with brisket which was a bit salty (because they put a tasty seasoning salt on the top and brisket is already naturally salty) but it was still good. Our server, Hunter, was authenticity friendly and the best one i can recall having ever. I’m serious. Some guys next to us ordered the rueben sandwich which was huge and looked awesome. It’s light and clean inside. Nice place to linger for conversation with friends. We’ll be back.

I remember this space when it was still m&m. God, how I miss that original restaurant. I'm thankful that the space was not closed down after they decided to retire m&m, but I can honestly say nothing will ever beat it.
I've had a bunch of opportunities to come here, and i've had experiences both ways.
This morning was kind of disappointing. I was craving very specifically A green hatch chili sausage that they exclusively have at this restaurant. I actually decided to come here over the popular chain breakfast spot because of this specific chili sausage. I found out that they discontinued it. I ended up getting their homemade corn beef hash. In the past, this dish was very delicious. Today, it was a different story. I never had corn beef that tasted as sweet as it did.. Maybe that's the charm of homemade, but honestly, it tasted like sweet ham with corn beef seasoning. Way too sweet.
Also, I'm pretty overpriced for what I received.. Corn beef hash eggs and toast. That ran my bill fifteen dollars. Also, a cup of coffee that did not receive a refill.
Ended up leaving, still giving my 20% tip because the server was nice. Honestly, the best part about the whole experience was her. It's the only part about my bill that I didn't regret.
As a member of this community, I really hope that this restaurant can turn things around. You have so much potential. Maybe take a look and taste what you're serving.

"the" Kitchen in Sussex, is a hidden gem. I am hesitant to review it publicly because it may lose its small town diner feel.

I have been here 2x, both times for breakfast. Fast service, friendly service, quick coffee and good. My first time I had an omelette - nothing wrong with it. The second time I had the Corned Beef with two eggs over easy - nothing wrong with it. And, a side of ham - moist and not dryed out. The wheat bread both times were good.

A nice, small town diner that for me does it right.

I will be back (at least) 1x per week.

This place is great! It's a cozy diner with a lot of character! The staff was very nice, attentive, and checked on us often. My food was also tasty, modestly priced, and prepared quickly. A very basic interior, reminiscent of an old school diner. Kind staff, great family atmosphere. The food was delicious. I had the pulled pork Sammy with tater tots. The pulled pork was well seasoned and smoked, with spicy/sweet pickles, very delicious. The tots were crunchy, so often they aren't and we're seasoned and salted. Would definitely return.

I been here twice for lunch, one time was for taco Tuesday and all I will say is DO NOT try the tacos unless they are hard shell, because their version of soft shell tacos is a shell that is made of EGG!! I wanted to like this place more than I did. In fact, I wanted to love it. I love small diners where they work hard. But I'm now at the point where when I spend over 30 bucks for a basic breakfast I expect it to be almost stellar or at the very least get WHAT I ordered.

We stopped here today on a bike ride on the Bugline Trail for breakfast. Both wife and I ordered a pretty basic breakfast. She ordered eggs, sausage and toast. I ordered "homemade" corn beef hash (extra crispy please), eggs & toast.

Server seemed pretty lost in the whole thing. I ordered water and coffee. Coffee comes quickly. No water. I wait a bit.. "Can I get some water please?" (I'm on a bike ride, kinda thirsty). "Of course Sir".. nope... no water.. Wait a while longer. Order water for the third time. Finally comes.

The hash was quite honestly, pretty bad. Precooked potato cubes barely warm, super finely chopped corned beef. Extra crispy was nowhere to be found. The potatoes and corned beef were *barely* even warm. Nothing even brown about them. The wife's sausage was almost black. So maybe they mixed up the order. But honestly, I'm kinda tired of paying over 30 bucks for a basic breakfast and not even getting what I ordered. At least the old M&M was a bit more reasonable price wise.

Plus a single slice of toast (and mine was the heel). Mentioned it to the server and was told you could have either one or two at no extra charge. Would have been nice to have been told this before we ordered and were served.

To top it off, the coffee was pretty weak and then 3.5% bite on the credit card. You are going to charge a premium price and then make me pay for the credit card surcharge?

I can't see myself coming back here. Sad, I want small diners to succeed, but I'm not going to lie in my reviews about how I feel. I'm tired of paying inflated prices for subpar food and service.

We went to the kitchen for lunch. I ordered a taco salad, and my friend ordered a chicken quesadea. My order came up first. It was delivered to me, and the shell was burnt to a crisp black. When I asked if I could get a new shell, their response was that's the way they came. I think not!!!! My friends order did not come up at all in the 20 after she ordered. By this time, I wasn't going to eat a burnt taco shell. So we decided to leave there and never to return there again. Also, you must pay in cash if you pay in other forms of payment. You are charged a 3% fee. Why they don't tell you is beyond me. We will never recommend this place, especially when they want me to eat a black burnt taco shell. Service was lousy. The place was a mess,our table still had syrup on it from previous customers. We had to ask to have the table washed off. All in all do not eat here.

Edit 5/5/23: Stopped in tonight and ate at the restaurant. Service was very fast and attentive. I had the baked fish again and my son had a Bacon Cheeseburger. He said it's one of the best burgers he's ever had. I look forward to going back and trying breakfast some time soon.
On 4/7/23 I got carry out beer battered haddock fish fry for my son and I got the baked haddock. We both enjoyed the fish. It had very good flavor. We both got fries and agreed they were probably the best fries we've ever had. Crispiness and seasoning were perfect. We look forward to going back, maybe for a breakfast and eating in the restaurant so I can comment a little more on the atmosphere.

Went to The Kitchen for the first time today. One of the owners suggested something to try and it did not let me down. The staff was great, the building was spotless, and since they also own The Parlor next door I was able to get an Old Fashion with my lunch. Besides the food the drink was exceptional as well. I would rank it easily in my top 3 old fashions(they smoked the ice for a little extra amazingness.) Price was perfect for a diner and I will absolutely be returning. It was a great spot to eat after a round of Disc Golf at Sussex Village Park! If you are in the area and hungry I highly suggest stopping in for a bite.

Tonight I had the Friday beer battered haddock fish fry, the batter on the fish was excellent thin and crunchy, fish was moist, potato pancakes were tasty along with the coleslaw and Marbled rye. Portions at the “Kitchen” are generous.

We were looking for lunch on our way home, and The Kitchen showed up on maps. It was around noon and based on the parking lot, a popular place.

They were busy and we guessed it was seat yourself which was confirmed after we sat down. A young woman quickly brought menus and asked what beverages we'd like.

It took a bit, but they were busy and with restaurant staff shortages, we were fine with waiting. Someone came and took our order. I got the Kitchen Klucker sandwich w/o onions. Hubby got the Pizza Burger. We both opted for house chips.

The Kitchen Klucker was good except I was hoping for a more crispy chicken. The buns were toasted, but the tomato slice made the bottom bun soggy.

Hubby enjoyed the Pizza Burger, but next time definitely want to try one of the brisket options.

They do breakfast the entire time they are open. They close at 2 pm.

The food is really good, especially their home made sausages (hatch chili is bomb!) When they first opened they had a few struggles with staffing and training but I knew this was just growing pains so I have kept coming back. I love how welcome the older couple make you feel. Prices make this place an excellent value. I hope this place sticks around because I have been here 5 or 6 times now and I plan on making this a regular breakfast venue for my family. Well done 👍

“The” Kitchen has friendly staff and delicious food! I was impressed that the pancakes were as big as they said they are, and beware because they will fill you up! I was pleasantly surprised. Because I was unfamiliar with the menu, I paid a little bit more than I anticipated for the side of two eggs and bacon—versus a combined menu item, But I still have no complaints, and would definitely come back again! It was good to see a well staffed crew and even younger people who wanted to work!

What a find! My new boss brought me here for breakfast. As you can see, they have bottomless mimosas. Great food. They are super-friendly! The portion size of the pancakes is enormous. All other portions are just huge. LOL. They even have a slot room. Just incredible.

Went here when it was M&M a few years back and it was awful.
Neighbors recommended this place to us and we were highly skeptical. Gave it a shot and were pleasantly surprised. Food quality was vastly improved.
They have done some remodeling work as well to lighten up the place while keeping a diner charm.
As a diner, there is some to be expected things. Residual sticky spots from syrup, plastic glasses look pretty beat up from washing, etc. But this isn't meant to be a fine dining experience. Hits the spot, prices are reasonable, and staff friendly. The owners (who are often there checking in on people) have done a great job turning this place around.
