Fun tavern with a place at a bar and good amount of seating on the other side. The main eating area has all of the lights a deep red so be prepared to feel like a lizard under a heat lamp (without the extra heat).
The food was ok, and the service was great, and the pricing reflects the food. This seems more like a place to just get a canned beer and maybe a small bite to eat.

This is a cute little joke tian bar and grill. The food was really good. I had a mushroom and Swiss burger with onion rings. A nice size burger with lots of mushrooms. The onion rings were very good and a nice size Lorton as well. I also tried some of their French fries and cheese curds, both of which were freaky good. I would recommend the food! The service was spot on as well. Our server was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The food came out hot and quick! What the place lacked in atmosphere was more than made up by the food and friendly service!

We went for prime rib and being a 12 oz prime rib 8 oz of it was pure fat. I get prime rib as fat but when you only get 4 oz of meat and then on top of it the prices were different from the menu to the signage and then when we got our bill it was even a dollar more. Actually all the menu prices were different than online. When we asked for refills in drinks it was an inconvenience. Won't be going back.

Lots has already been said about this place, but a couple things that I haven't seen as much--
1. It is very dark in the dining room and the bulbs are pink/red. Like, I wanted a good look at my burger after I cut it in half to check out the toppings, and I had to turn on my phone's flashlight.
2. The menu says that all burgers are cooked to medium unless specified otherwise, but mine arrived with no pink.
3. There aren't any seating options that aren't barrel style chairs or booths. The barstools are the same as the chairs, just higher.

It's good! I'll go back when I'm in the neighborhood at an off peak time.

This is the classic wisco pub. Down to layout, furniture, bar setup and everything. The spirit is alive here!
Very laid back atmosphere, perfect for hanging out for hours watching sports games or play cards like a couple was doing. Service is a bit rough, they are busy and curt most of the time. Menu is great, lot of choices. The smashburger is the star but they have lot more including soups and such. What makes the food taste better honestly is the charm of the atmosphere and being surrounded by your friends relaxing. So next time you want to let your hair down and show up in your Ugg slippers head over to the Laurel!

The last time I went in on a Saturday night. It wasn't busy, but two of the women bartenders had clearly been drinking. The one with dark hair and glasses didn't understand that someone offered to pay for my drink, so instead she opened a new beer and gave it to me and still charged me for the drink that was supposed to be paid for and the new one I didn't ask for was covered by the other person. It was also hard to get her and the blonde ladies attention. They were too busy talking to other staff by the register.

Yesterday after the Badger game we walked the Laurel to get dinner. The prime rib was excellent as always but I ordered the steak sandwich medium rare with fried onions. The first bite was good and then the rest was all gristle. I couldn't even bite into it. Instead of the waiter asking me if he could get me something else he just told me I should have ordered it medium. Very disappointed.

You can’t go wrong here - the prices are incredibly reasonable, there’s a lot of drink options, the food is fantastic, and it has a very classic Wisconsin bar feel. It’s absolutely a neighborhood staple. I personally love their brewmaster burger, rueben, chili, and walleye fish fry. It’s also located next to an ice cream shop, which makes for a perfect family night with dinner and dessert. Highly highly recommend.

I went in on Saturday, it wasn't too busy and I definitely liked the friendly service and atmosphere, although it felt a bit weird to be watched over like a hawk.

For the food, we took some jalapeno poppers, two burgers, and my friend ordered some chicken on the side. The jalapeno poppers just had the tough chewy skin of a jalapeno, it was difficult to enjoy them unless we took a full bite since the cream and the crust was a delicious combo.

As for the burgers, the really unfortunate part was the undercooked meat. The lighting made it very difficult to see how pink the interior was and we both felt food poisoning symptoms afterwards. It was the only thing we ate for the entire day.

I highly recommend checking the food before your first bite if you do go, it's still enjoyable as well as the drinks.

LOVE this local dive so much, it’s a verb amongst our friends and family. “Should we Laurel tonight?” “Hey I’m thinkin’ about Laureling for lunch…” The prices and the pours are locked it at maximum value and who wouldn’t dig that iconic salmon-pink-colored glow where time feels like it stands still once you walk inside (in the best all-fried-comfort-food type way)?! One time, we brought our nieces and they indulged her passion for pickles by surprising her with a whole BOWL of ‘em - she still talks about that to this day. Wow. Friday night fish fry. The place was packed. We were seated right away and Brian was great. Orders taken and drinks on the table in less than a minute. The fish was perfectly cooked, tender, succulent and paired perfectly with baked potato, roll and fresh salad. I would have expected it to be loud with the number of people though it was more like a quiet hum, able to easily have a nice conversation. We will be back!

You'd usually get a good value for money and good hospitality most of the times. But even though I'm a regular customer, my last few times on Friday nights were really crazy. You would wait for hours before you can get a table, especially if you are going there alone. They have the tendency of accommodating people who came later if they were 3-4 people and forget about you. Once they also forgot my order in a much less crowded day. I thought it was just a mistake. But now I'm convinced about their poor customer service. You have many Friday fish fries in Madison. You really don't need to sign up for a table at 6 p.m. and then leave at 8 p.m. without having any food after you would figure out people coming way later got their tables but they wouldn't know when they would be able to accommodate you! That's crazy!

Got the Ruben, wasn't bad. Worth the trying. Loved the bread. Slightly soggy but I got double meat.. Look do that ok. Do the double... I feel either way you will love it. Potato salad smaller portions in its own cup.. Service started out good but slacked off as the night went on.. Large group 6..took about 15 mins to break up check 3 of us where on the same check.. Fire place was off.. Table in front of it.. Asked couldn't turn it on.. 20f outside ❄️😔.. Been here a couple times not a bad place.. It's hopping I'll be back..

For their weekend specialties, IE: Friday night fish fry and Saturday night prime rib, this place is definitely good. I like the supper club type atmosphere on these nights, getting a salad beforehand, potato options, etc. Some of their other basic appetizer items are just okay. Typical bar items. Have also had burgers here and they are awesome! Got to add fries separately but still relatively good value. If you can keep your drinking bill down that is.

All the bartenders/servers we have had were very good.

My one complaint is the dinner rolls... they are absolutely terrible, every time I've had them. They are so dry and unappetizing! Like how has no one from their staff or kitchen realized this, and yet they just keep sending them out. Get rid of them or get new ones.They suck! And it just seems silly to keep them around, and a waste for everyone.
But that's a small thing.

The atmosphere is a little small and crowded, so if you've never been just keep that in mind... but it makes you feel like you are part of something. It just goes with the natural flow and vibe of the place. You don't have to wait a crazy amount of time for a table when they're on a wait, in my opinion. Can always saddle up to the bar! 😉

Plus there is a nice park, a walking path and a lakefront area behind their parking lot which is so beautiful and nice, weather permitting. If you have room afterwards you can always get ice cream next door, too. Nice location.

We call it the spider bar though sometimes, as being close to the lake, they have the craziest spiders underneath their awning!!

Cheap, delicious, greasy pub food. Your cardiologist definitely does not recommend but I can't recommend it enough.

My girlfriend and I got the bacon cheeseburger, the cheese curds, and the buffalo wings. The cheeseburger was a little greasy but in the exact way you expect a pub burger to be. Overall a heavy but filling and delicious meal. The cheese curds are soooooo flavorful and have a nice little crunchy texture from the breading and wonderful, almost starburst-like blast of delicious cheesy flavor inside. Definitely some of the better curds I've had in Madison.
The buffalo wings were... a dry rub, I guess? I was expecting the classic wings doused in buffalo sauce but these wings were dry and the buffalo sauce was cooked right into the breading! After I got over my initial expectations, I had to admit that this was a nice twist on the classic buffalo wings. The breading is thick enough to carry a good amount of flavor and chicken tasted good too. These wings also had a satisfying crunch that you could hear from the first bite, yum!

Note on their service: I had a couple modifications to my orders and they got every exactly right. I went around lunchtime so maybe that helped the issues with service that some of the reviews have mentioned but I was in and out :).

When the fish came the waitress never came back, she was to busy talking to the cook in the back, instead of customers. I will never go back here, or will I recommend this place to anyone. Bad service.
The best fish fry I have had to date is at Monkeyshines Bar and Grill. I don't drink, and they have plenty of ice water served with a lemon. And the staff is great. Tony the cook will light up your day, on the darkest hour.
