Nitty Squirrel may be a small place, but it packs a big punch when it comes to food, drinks, and service. It’s my favorite spot in town—and my son’s too! The food is always delicious, the Old Fashions are top-notch, and the staff is absolutely amazing. The people who run it are so kind and welcoming, and they’re great with kids. We’ve never had a bad experience here. A true Northwoods gem!

First visit. Came with a friend. We both had the nutty squirrel burger which was the best burger I've had in some time. The fries are skinny, crispy and plentiful and also amongst the best I've ever had. Our server was MIA sometimes but a more senior waitress came by and took care of us. You can tell the place is popular because it was filled with locals. Excellent tap beer selection.

First of all, Tammy is the heartbeat of this place - she is just amazing. I’ll never forget the little gifts she gave to our kids! It was the coolest thing ever.

The food is absolutely delicious. Never had such crispy tater tots and fries and I was blown away by the jalapeño popper! If you love ranch dressing, it’s perfect (also made by Tammy!)

I also really appreciated the thoughtfulness of there being games and toys available for kids to play with - it helped us parents be able to have a conversation and enjoy our time even more.

We had been here a couple of times. Caters to locals. Lot of drunks at bar and high tables. Waitress had bad attitude. As you can see by reviews management if there is any does not care how their employee treat customers. Last time we were there was a couple years ago. I don’t expect anything has changed. Avoid this place. Highly recommend Erins Pub p/Grub north of Eagle River a little ways on 45. Great Ruben sandwich. They don’t burn their pizza like Buck Shots down the road. Owner claims out of town and downtown are the same. The problem is that they don’t clean the grades off after making other pizzas so you get burnt transfer on bottom. Never got burned pizza down town. We done go to either any more. Too much drama and lies by bartender. Owner supports her lies.

This was our first time coming to the nutty squirrel, my husband and I felt we needed a nice night out. Walked in, everyone was very welcoming, our waitress, took our drink order, and I asked her nicely if they had fried pickles on the menu, cause I had such a craving for them, she said unfortunately they don’t have it on the menu, but she asked the cook if they could make some for me. She came out with two samples of fried pickles in two different breading asking which one we liked better, we chose and the portion of how many they gave us was outstanding! I wanted to take a bath in the basket of fried pickles! The food was amazing! Our waitress was awesome! Definitely a great first time! Keep up the good work guys!

Really good Friday fish fry. Did carry out, you must go in, they don't take phone in orders. We had both the fried haddock and the bluegill, perch platter. Nice light batter and great tasting fish. Will definitely go again when in the area.
ETA Went on a Saturday evening at 8:15 and were told the kitchen was already closed. Posted hours were 9pm. This is not OK. Post kitchen hours or serve patrons until posted hours.

The best fish fry we have had in lake country. We both went with the bluegill and perch. Cooked perfectly. The baby red potatoes were great. It was busy but they did a great job of taking care of everyone and moving people through. The best old fashioned I've had in the area and good prices, too. Bartender and wait staff were top notch and very friendly. We're glad we stopped.

Went on a Tuesday for $2 burger night and arrived early

Pros:
- $2 burgers with additional toppings being $ 0.25-1.
- Dive bar feel
- Waitresses were kind and engaging with my young kids
- Kids enjoyed coloring squirrels for the wall

Cons:
- Horribly rude hostess who seemingly was only nice to locals. She was wearing yoga leggings and an oversized black sweatshirt. It was unclear that she worked there initially because of her appearance. Additionally, she rolled her eyes when my elderly father asked her a question.
- No menu for the $2 burger night so we didn't order many toppings.
- Restaurant is small and loud
- Unable to accommodate food allergies

Stopped with my wife along with family here visiting from Virginia. They had a hard time seating us as tables and chairs were not to be moved. Only one food ticket per table so although my wife and I only wanted to have an appetizer as we had to leave before all the rest of our group did, we weren't allowed to. Can't comment on the food as we had to leave. The staff were not friendly and it seemed that they must not need the business. Very disappointing, I will be telling the people I know that they would be better off looking for other places to grab something to eat.

Went for the $2 Tuesday burger special. It costs extra for lettuce, tomatoes, onions, bacon, cheese, and fries, but ended up still under $5 for both my son and I, so I was able to splurge on the brownie Sundae. One of the best fish fry ever...they had me at their Blue Gill and Perch combo! Lightly panko breaded, and the potato pancakes side was excellent. My wife had the shrimp with their homemade chips and said it was very good. The Old Fashioned was good and strong. It is a very small and popular place, so be prepared to wait. They open at 4:00. We got there at 4:10 and had to wait. Also, not conducive for a large group or young children. They do have a nice deck outside where you can wait. We will be back!

While in Eagle River for work, talked to a local to get the scoop on a good Friday fish fry. They recommended the Nutty Squirrel. We laughed when he told us to get there at 330pm otherwise we'd be waiting close to an hour. We listened and by 329pm a few locals where already there waiting. And not just in their cars. Like, lined up outside the restaurant/bar. We got in line at 345 and luckily was seated at the last open table before the people behind us in line had to wait. But...people were still happy to stand or get a drink at the bar and wait for tables to open up! We got all you can eat perch. Came with Cole slaw, choice of potato, baked beans and bread. The fish were hefty size pieces. Lightly battered and absolutely fresh! The wait staff was VERY friendly as well! Even upon walking in the bartender had certain drinks for certain regular locals already lined up on the bar for them! Friendly staff, good food and priced well. It appeared there was outdoor seating available as well. Glad we listened to our local "neighbors" advice

I am not a Google reviewer. I don't like reading negative reviews, but I do believe that if you receive excellent service you should be recognized for it. We a party of 5 went to have fish fry Friday night. It was busy and we had a short wait but it was worth it. Fish was really good,crisp, and excellent flavor. Great food (I had 1/2 Broasted Chicken, dear wife had Fish Wraps), good choices of beers on tap, outdoor patio for dining with Sasha dog, good service but no orders taken from patio, have to go inside to place food and drink orders.
