Night one (Friday night )was a blast. Stayed in a suite on 2nd floor over looking the water. Room was decorated nicely very clean and very comfortable bed.
The restaurant was amazing. The vibe was fun and the design of the place is even better than the pics we saw. We had dinner and the crab stuffed shirimp wasTasty! Wait staff for dinner was great. Waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and did a great job.
We planned to head to door county after dinner but the well designed environment, Martini’s and fun bar staff kept us there the rest of the night:) what a cool place with great people.

Pelican Restaurant — From Excited to Disappointed in 15 Minutes Flat
I was really looking forward to trying the Pelican Restaurant — the remodel and atmosphere are beautiful, and we made a reservation for five people the night before. Unfortunately, that excitement turned to disappointment very quickly.
When we arrived, we were seated at a table meant for four adults — even though there were several open tables and other groups nearby seemed to be in the same situation. I immediately told the hostess that this wasn’t acceptable, but nothing was done to fix it. Interestingly, a party of six who came in after us was given a properly sized table with plenty of room. Apparently, five isn’t a number they know how to accommodate comfortably.
Our waitress added to the frustration. While we were still reviewing the menu, she came by four or five times asking if we were ready to order. When one person finally ordered an appetizer, she took that order and simply walked away — leaving the rest of us wondering why we weren’t given a chance to order. By the time the appetizer arrived, two of us had decided we’d just like the bill and to leave.
To make matters worse, the server never introduced herself, never mentioned any specials (which we only overheard from another table), and the entire staff seemed to be watching us after we questioned being crammed at a table for four. It made for an uncomfortable and unpleasant experience.
As a finishing touch, a woman (possibly a manager) was walking around asking guests how their meals were — before and after dining. She approached the tables to our left and right, but deliberately skipped ours. That said a lot about the restaurant’s attitude toward customer service.
While the setting was lovely, the food prices were quite high for what appeared to be standard, IQF-prepared food you could find anywhere. Our reservation meant nothing, the service was awkward and dismissive, and five potential repeat customers have now been lost.
If you’re a group of four, you’ll fit perfectly. Six seems to get the royal treatment. But a party of five? Apparently, that’s one too many.

What kind of server disappears after one person orders an appetizer only to reappear with soggy nasty cheese curds. Overpriced. Did no honor reservation.

We were there in the off-season so it was quiet and peaceful. The room was very neat, updated and clean; and, there was a coffee pot with coffee waiting for us. We would love to come back when the restaurant is open, as it is right on the water...a beautiful venue!

We live a couple miles away and eagerly awaited the complete rebuild of the bar and restaurant! It is a great location but absolutely nothing gluten free! Look at menu and notice it is very limited! Also a bar and restaurant becomes the place to go by food not drink or location! Food is the key!

Had a lovely stay here! Clean and comfy bed—I slept like a baby. Especially loved the location, right by the private beach and with a café and restaurant right across from the hotel. As someone who can’t drive (lol), that’s a real blessing. The food is great, and shout-out to all the teenage staff—super polite and professional. :)

Three couples stayed at Painted Pelican for one night on our bike ride from Kewaunee to Sturgeon Bay. When we arrived we requested a room change to the ground floor to accommodate our bike and they were very accommodating. We really enjoyed having beers on the private beach before dinner. The rooms were spotless and the beds were comfy with very nice linens. The bathrooms have been updated and have everything you need. We enjoyed our dinners in the evening at their newly renovated restaurant across the lot and had lattes, breakfast burritos, muffins and yogurt & fruit parfaits in the morning at their coffee shop. It was a perfect place for us to stop on our way.

We Really enjoyed our time at The Painted Pelican, the rooms were very clean , had a mini frig , coffee pot and microwave. We only used the mini fridge. They have a Restaurant right across the parking lot , coffee in the morning and Dinner's later in the day . We never got the chance to eat there because we were always busy , but heard the food was Great . Right on the water , My Wife and I spent a day just hanging out at the water. Very close to door county where we spent a lot of our time . We were here for 5 nights , we definitely plan on coming back , we want to spend more time there for Dinner and hanging out on their patio. The owners are very nice and very friendly, what ever you need they get it done quickly. A lot more reasonable in price than staying in door county. You won't be sorry if you book there.

This is the second year in a row me and my fiancee have stayed here, and it is a great getaway from the city and very relaxing. The small town atmosphere is very enjoyable and amazing view of sunsets. If you are looking for a list of things to do probably look elsewhere. If you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful place, this is the place to go. Also the staff is friendly and always helpful.

I had the great pleasure of staying at the Painted Pelican for three days while I visited the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion...I truly enjoyed the private beach, and the immaculate nature and style of my room. It is a lovely step back into time when wayside motels provided travelers with a safe unique stay on their journeys to new places.

Location was nice, with a private beach, close to G.B. and Door Co. Grounds were clean and well maintained. Bed and pillows were comfortable.
Room was cute (with pelican art) and well equipped -- fridge, microwave, space for suitcases. One problem was that the air was not fresh -- musty, with a smell of very old cigarette smoke. Windows didn't open, and the air conditioner was noisy and still failed to bring in fresh air. Other than the A/C, the room was quiet.
"Contactless check-in" worked fine, except that we received the door code ON the day of our stay, instead of the day before as the confirmation email had said we would.
Restaurant patrons sometimes occupied hotel parking spaces, but our assigned space was always free when we arrived.

The bartenders were excellent with great suggestions. The food was also excellent. I had the grilled cheese with tomato bisque and it ranks in the top grilled cheese sandwiches I’ve ever had. The restaurant itself has a lovely atmosphere and beautiful views with an outdoor patio. We were disappointed with our server, however. She was rushing us the entire time and made us feel as though we were putting her out when we asked for anything. Appetizers for the table came without plates and so we had to ask for them. She would forget some of our drink orders. And when one couple in our group ordered a salad to share, they asked for an extra plate which she forgot - no big deal, that happens, but then she brought them a tiny appetizer plate. With everything so good, it was especially disappointing to have poor service. I’ll give them another chance as I’m hoping this was an isolated instance.

This was a very well maintained property. They were clean, with comfortable beds, and very peaceful. The beach was beautiful and had around 8 chairs.l and a fire pit for PP guests. The coffee shop/restaurant wasn’t open the days we were there. But it looked very nice. Most of the rooms face the parking lot, but there are a few that face the lake. Our family (2 young kids) loved our two nights here!

The Painted Pelican is a wonderful place. We have stayed twice now, once as a couple and then we brought our children. The rooms are spacious and inviting. The kitchenette was very well equipped. When additional towels were needed, it was very easy to request and they were delivered promptly. The beach is great for kids. We love the location as it's not in the touristy sections of Door County so it is much quieter but it's very easy to access both Door County and Green Bay. The restaurant is also wonderful!

My husband and I stayed here for five days and enjoyed our stay! We would come back but would book a room on the second floor next time due to noise from people staying above us every night. The location and beautiful private beach next to the water was a plus and made up for it! The restaurant next door was great and we enjoyed the coffee shop’s chai tea lattes and coffee most mornings!

Review is for the restaurant only: Great location, good drinks (cherry mule was delicious), but the food was a challenge to enjoy. Didn't get an option for the fish other than heavily deep fried, the potato salad was an attempt to be unique, but missed the mark for me, and the kid's fries were nothing special. Maybe we didn't order their marquee items, but I felt ordering fish on the bay should have been a for sure win and for me it was not.

We stopped here on a weekday evening for dinner and had a delicious hamburger and gyro sandwich. The Gyro came with fries. Also had a delicious craft beer. The outdoor seating atmosphere is outstanding. Just beautiful. There was also a single musician playing his own version of various indie hits. Not too loud just right. Whoever owns this place is very clever and doing just about everything right. My only complaint if I had one at all is that they should offer their hamburgers at different levels of wellness. Too concerned about undercooked beef. Although the meat was excellent my wife stated as it was served well done. We will definitely stop back it's a beautiful outdoor lakefront dining experience.

Beautifully remodeled hotel in a pristine location on the Bay of Green Bay. The two-queen room was spacious and tastefully decorated with a nice lakeside feel. The restaurant next door was great, with wonderful white lights on the patio and live music to enjoy the gorgeous sunset. The only reason we didn't give 5 stars was because there were not any first-floor rooms available, and they don't have an elevator. Open steps were a bit of a challenge for senior citizens.

We went to the Painted Pelican for coffee in the morning, and dinner in the evening, both were excellent! Their outdoor patio has a great view of the lake as well as some shaded and sunny tables. Their dinner menu was varied and delicious, the service was warm and friendly, and the ambience was great. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area, worth a long drive for the food alone!

The room was borderline spotless. We got one of the suites and the view was also incredible. Such an easy check in and the restaurant has good food. Ended up meeting one of the owners and everyone there was so unbelievably nice. The beach was also so cool, private for the guests, just would recommend water shoes. If we ever are back in the area or want to take another little vacation in a small town, you can’t beat this place.

Clean, comfortable, lovely location right on the bay. They send you an e-mail with check in information and the lock code. The room was nice. My parents were riding our bikes from where we're camping at Bayshore. Decided to pull in to look at the water. Somebody was cutting the lawn and asked us if we were customer we said no and he told us we weren't allowed in the parking lot. My mom needed to make a wider turn with my e-bike and he continued to yell at me "what are you doing did you not hear me?" They travel to this area a lot and at one point we considered having dinner there but with how rude he was they will never going there for anything.

Visited on a Friday night. New place, great decor, fresh look, bar is inviting. They had a jazz band playing. While I like jazz it was so loud we couldn’t talk with our friends. The main room/bar area acoustics probably lend itself to a quieter music option. They could use some sound dampening materials. Food was tasty although they ran out of two fish fry entrees at 6:45 pm. In Wisconsin you can’t run out of fish on a Friday night. Kitchen brought out two entrees for the other couple, ours lagged behind. Service was spotty, server was pleasant. She kept asking if we wanted more drinks while our water carafe was empty. I understand she’s trying to sell menu options & drinks.
While our first experience was not quite up to par, I definitely would go back and encourage others to stop in. Place has unlimited potential. Once it all comes together it will be 5 star.

Worst restaurant food we've ever had! Had a grilled cheese with avocado, bacon, tomato. This thing had to be grilled in a stick of butter on both sides with how greasy the bread and basket was under the sandwich! Another member of the party had the spaghetti and meatballs. The pasta was dry, marinara and meatballs were not flavorful. Our kiddos had the mac n cheese. This was the best tasting meal of ours but not sure why there was pepper in it???? If it wasn't pepper not sure what it was that had some spice to it.
Probably a cool place in the summer on the patio for drinks....but take you dinner money and go elsewhere to eat before hand so you get something that tastes great for the same price.

Painted Pelican was a delightful surprise. Not quite sure what to expect but it was a little piece of heaven. Getting to be by the lake and watching the sunset while listening to the waves. Just what the doctor ordered. The rooms were very clean and roomy. And the food was wonderful. Very good quality and quantity. Thank you for such an amazing stop.

This motel, right on the water, is affordable, clean and convenient. The room are very clean, with all the necessities (small fridge and microwave). Across the parking lot is a their restuarat and bar with an outside patio facing the water, with a great coffee bar in the morning. This place checked all the boxes and we would highly recommend. Staff was welcoming and accommodating as well.

The chicken sandwich with garlic aioli was amazing. BUT the jalapeno popper chicken soup for $10 was sooooo thin. I expected a rich, creamy, thick soup topped with crushed tortillas, cheese and jalapenos. The soup was literally yellow water with a few ingredients. Staff was friendly and spot on, the atmosphere was clean and the patio was beautiful. Small beach with a fire pit to view the beautiful sunset. Picnic tables also available for more seating on the grounds.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Painted Pelican Inn for two nights during my trip to AirVenture, and I cannot express enough how wonderful my experience was. The inn is situated in a picturesque location, offering stunning views of Green Bay that create a serene and relaxing atmosphere. The newly remodeled rooms are a perfect blend of comfort and modern amenities, making it feel like a home away from home.
The owners, who are clearly dedicated to providing a top-notch experience, have done an excellent job in creating a welcoming and warm environment. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality made my stay truly memorable. From the cozy decor to the thoughtful touches throughout the inn, it’s evident that they care deeply about their guests' comfort.
The on-site restaurant and bar were also highlights of my stay. The menu features fresh, locally sourced food, and the unique cocktails were a delightful treat. The combination of delicious food and the charming ambiance made dining there a fantastic experience.
Overall, I was very happy with the area, the rooms, and the atmosphere. I can’t wait to return to the Painted Pelican Inn in the future. It’s a gem of a place that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

We stayed here for a wedding and found the experience exceptionally pleasant. It was great being able to walk across the parking lot for food, drinks, and coffee. Don’t forget to buy some firewood at the gas station across the street; there’s a fire pit down on the beach that’s amazing!

The Painted Pelican is our new absolute favorite spot!
The coffee shop is a great place to spend a relaxing morning. I had a latte and pastry and sat on the patio overlooking the bay watching the birds and boats go by.
The restaurant has wonderful food and drinks, and the bay front view is to die for!

Magical patio, beer selection, beachy vibe, lots of local selections, and oh my those bang bang shrimp are to DIE for!!!!!!. Seriously, do yourself a favor and take a Detour off the highway to have a drink and awesome meal over looking the bay pf green bay and yes there is a cute pelican statue on the patio! Super impressed with how this new establishment has hit the ground running and the quality of the food, service and beer (ya I like their local brew selection!). Faves so far from my family (besides the shrimp) are the Grilled cheese with avocado and bacon added on, the gyro, and the butterfly chips! Yum!

Had a Saturday night dinner, and a Sunday morning coffee bar. Good experience both times. Staff apologized for wait at bar, and table, but they were not long waits. Amazing facility , great people, and close to home for us. People we met staying at the motel love their room. Beach is very nice. For just being under way a couple weeks, the mission is going very well. Looking forward to the future.

Incompetent hostess and staff who are all about 16 years old and clueless - waited 1.5 hours for a table after being quoted half that time. We saw multiple open tables outside that sat vacant and we kept checking in with the hostess who said we were almost up. Turns out they stopped seating tables altogether because they didn’t want to overwhelm the servers. So frustrating. We left.

My daughter (11yrs) and I came up from the Chicago suburbs for our annual girls trip. We were so happy at the Painted Pelican! First, the renovations are really well done. From when we pulled up outside to the rooms and bathrooms inside things were clean, fresh and well appointed. We went down to the beach (just 25 yrds or so from the parking lot) every night to watch the most beautiful sunsets over the lake, look for sea glass and dance on the clean sand. The outside of the building is modern and the parking lot is in good condition with reserved parking spots for each room. The area was quiet and felt very safe. Across from the parking lot is their restaurant, coffee shop, bar area. We heard great things about the restaurant but only were able to try the walk-up coffee window. Very convenient to grab a yogurt parfait and pastry before heading out!
We stayed in a king bed room on the first floor for two nights and liked it so much we stayed a 3rd night in the double queen room next to it. Both rooms were clean, spacious and nicely decorated. The beds, bedding and pillows were very comfortable. Nice wall mounted lamps with wall switches conveniently placed next to the bed. There was a mini fridge, microwave and water bottles in each room and a place to hang things (our towels) and a shoe tray by the door. So thoughtful.
The bathroom was big and had a full size shower/tub combo with full size shampoo and conditioner. We also liked having the shelves and hangers in the bathroom.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend this motel and definitely would return to stay again!

The Painted Pelican is awesome. I just graduated from college and decided to take a road trip to Door County with my family, who are from overseas and don’t speak English. I don’t usually leave reviews but wanted to because the staff were so kind and understanding to myself and my family. We had a wonderful time. The rooms are very clean and cozy. My husband and I had a delightful stay at this place. We were thrilled to be allowed to bring our beloved dogs along. Our suite, Suite A, offered breathtaking water views that made waking up in the morning a true pleasure. The room itself was spotless and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Additionally, the location was conveniently situated just a short half-hour drive south of Sturgeon Bay and in close proximity to Green Bay. The only minor drawback was the weak WiFi signal, but luckily we were prepared with a GoLocal portable WiFi device since I needed to work during our travels. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our time spent right on the beach, soaking in the sun and simply unwinding. Without a doubt, we will be returning for another visit in the future.

We checked in on January 20th 2024 for one night as planned. It was a little difficult to find our designated parking spot as snow had covered the concrete parking bumper with our room number on it. Getting into our room (#7) with the provided code was no problem. Management had been very responsive to all our questions. The room was kind of spartan, but very clean and freshly remodeled. We then went off to visit our close-by friends for dinner. On our return, about midnight, it was bitterly cold, “0” or below. We could not get the door code to work. We tried it about a dozen times. Just as we were about to give up and call management, the door code worked. Maybe the bitter cold had affected it somehow. The bed was very comfortable. The room (#7) was equipped with a fridge, microwave, TV, maybe more, I don’t remember, (we didn’t use any of them) and a small table with two plastic chairs. The bathroom was also very clean and freshly remodeled, however we could not find any face / hand soap. There was shampoo and conditioner. All in all the Painted Pelican served our needs. Yes, we would recommend, yes we would return.

Our room was very clean and comfortable. If you’re looking for internet service or WiFi, look elsewhere as those services were spotty at best. Check out was earlier than the norm at 10AM, for some reason. There’s no ice machine and nothing else in Dyckesville to do, really, but there’s a bowling alley and pizza place across the street. The property sits on a beautiful Green Bay beach. Unfortunately, their bar/restaurant next door is a work in progress. Staff is helpful.

I do have a love hate relationship with The Painted Pelican Inn. Rooms are nicely renovated, a few downsides. The bathroom is a barndoor that slides, which has no locks. As I have small kids, there was no privacy for the bathroom. The rooms are fairly small, as I had a toddler and a 11 year old, we were smushed. The bed is close to the air conditioner which made me wake up extremely sick. Beds are small but comfortable. Only one space for parking, an no boat area. Pictures are a little deceiving as it looks like there is a boat ramp but it’s blocked off. No restaurant, no bar. I tried inquiring about the kayak rental but no response. Beach front is nice with some chairs and a fire pit. I do suggest this for a single couple as this would be perfect but not a family. At night, people were talking/laughing on the balcony at 1:45AM which woke me straight up as the bed is close to the window. We did end up leaving a day early to go stay at another hotel in downtown greenbay that was just more suitable for a family.

We were heading to Door County to spend a few days for our anniversary. Since we were traveling from a distance we decided to get as close as we could before arriving for our stay in Sister Bay. We found the Painted Pelican in a Google search. What a fantastic place! The rooms are newly refurbished and they did a great job. We were surprised that the place wasn't full but enjoyed the quiet. We walked across the street for pizza since the bar and restaurant are currently under construction. We watched a thunderstorm come across the lake from the beach and then continued watching it from our room. If we are in the area again, we would definitely return. Nice, clean place in a cute little town.

The rooms are excellent.! We had stayed in this motel previously to the new ownership and wow, what a difference. The remodeling was tastefully done. Beds are very comfortable. Love the coffee for the morning :) The only downside is when we tried to reach out to see where to park our boat we didn't get a response. But when we arrived we found out info in the binder. Door County accommodations were expensive and booked. We found this property 20 miles out on the way to Door County and booked it. When we arrived we were surprised to find it was right on the beach of Green Bay. The sunset was beautiful. There was also a local ice cream place across the road with a couple dozen locals standing around eating ice cream. Our room was clean and up-to-date. The check-in was via email with a lock code. The owners do live nearby, though, if needed. This is a private business and they are currently building a restaurant next door. If you are looking for a nice place to sleep, this place is great.
