It's a great spot on the island to stop by for cocktails and hang out with friends. The balsamic chicken pizza was delicious, we had to order a second one because of how good it was. The crust on them is just perfect.

Hailey also provided a nice service and gave us some good suggestions on what to do on the island during our short trip.

A bit disappointed in this place. Poor service, under cooked food. I asked for medium well, and got medium rare. I like steak that way, but not burger.
Server didn't check on us after we got our food till we were done, it's not like they were busy, 2 other tables with guests in the whole place. Still tipped over 10%, but shouldn't have left any for how much the food was, and the service. The music on the system was annoying after awhile. Lots of mandolin or something excessive. A bit too loud, not background music

The establishment provided an exceptional experience across the board. The cuisine was of high quality and reasonably priced. The visual splendor of the location is difficult to capture photographically. The visit occurred during the dinner hour, coinciding with a breathtaking sunset. A highlight of our visit was our server. Gee's vibrant and energetic demeanor was the perfect complement to the end of our day. Service ok. Couldn’t get a drink correct !!! A drink on their menu. Drink one came in a chipped glass. Drink two came in another glass with gross sugar clumped sliding off it. Returned it thinking it was someone else glass. Second try no sugar at all on rim. Question if the house drink can’t be correctly served what hope is there for a correctly cooked dinner. Went here for lunch and the menu options + food quality was extremely mediocre. Not having any sort of appetizer menu is unusual and awkward when you're in a group. The chowder came out lukewarm. The chips that came with my sandwich appeared to be from the bottom of a bag of plain Lay's.

Had my small reception dinner here. Waitress was immediately UNBELIEVABLY rude - snipping at my mother, being short with everyone, looked so upset and was the opposite of friendly. Someone else spilled drinks all over my husband (the groom), ran away immediately after and never came back to apologize or clean up the mess (we are nice people and were joking about it within 2 minutes, she could’ve minimally come back to apologize for spilling it all over the GROOM and his tux). Only place open in LaPointe on a Thursday night! Nice restaurant, good service , wonderful lakeside view and we even saw the sunset. Had lake trout and whitefish, both from Lake Superior. Fish was excellent, the panko breading on the whitefish was light and crunchy, not a thick heavy batter, especially enjoyed. Only complaint no veggies. Entrees came with mashed potatoes. Especially for the price, including a small salad would be nice, or a choice of vegetable. We ordered roasted Brussels sprouts for a starter, which was very good.

Ordered 2 Bloodys - asked for pickle juice, he said it’s on there and he makes them just like at Muddy Waters (out of business) in Minneapolis-
I live in the twin cities…. Said “I bet you’re glad you’re up here instead of there”…. (Minneapolis police officer shot last night) ….Instantly TRIGGERED! went off on us and we walked out - never going back - came up here to get away from that stuff.
When we said - hey man idle down - we’re just having a conversation, is this really how you treat your customers?

My wife and I had been camping on the island for a couple days and wanted to get a nice dinner before we left. We arrived early and had drinks on the patio while waiting for dinner service to start at 5:00. After being seated inside, no server checked in on us, not even offered water. Plenty of staff on hand. The food that I had tried was good! The chicken pizza was great! Definitely recommend the Brussel sprouts as well. The trout with the crab on top was Devine. The trout with the rice Pilaf was okay…. It Seemed a bit over cooked/dry compared to the trout I had enjoyed the night before. The orange cream martini was delicious. However, there was another cocktail at our table that was pink with lemonade and it was excessively too sweet.
The brownie Sunday with ice cream was wonderful as well!
The vibe was beautiful as the restaurant is right on the water!
The service left a bit to be desired. We had to go up and try to find our server in order to get to go boxes and also to get the check. Outside the service was a bit weird… we had to go up to a stand and order our drinks and food and pay as we ordered. That wasn’t explained to us so we ended up sitting at the table for a bit longer than we had wanted to but overall it was a good experience and I would recommend checking the place out!

The purpose of my review is to applaud Daisy the server who put up with the most entitled boorish a-hole I have ever encountered.
Two older couples come in and sit very close by. This jack@ss was a thin balding guy who took what’s left of his hair and tied it back in a pink elastic ponytail holder. He asked for wine on the wine list that Daisy apologetically informed him that they were out of. She suggested an alternative to which he whined “I’m so tired of that wine”. He then asked for them to open a Cabernet that was only sold by the bottle. She left to ask her manager, then returned saying “I’m very sorry but that is only sold by the bottle”. He then attacked her saying “you know, you people really need to step up your service around here. Do you KNOW how much MONEY we spend here? I have a boat ON the Island! Now you go back and talk your manager and tell them that’s the wine I want”. The server then returned, apologized again and placated the petulant self appointed king of the island by bringing him and his wife their desired wine. The others at the table just sat there in silent approval of this douche’s tantrum.
We we’re so disgusted by the four of them that we left our drinks unfinished, boxed up our dinner and left.
If he hadn’t been an old coot I would have knocked him out.
You wonder why service industry employees are hard to keep?
The clown show aside, our food was wonderful as was the service.

It’s a funky season on Madeline Island. Between staff shortages, inability to bring in staff/students from overseas, and a COVID hangover, The Pub, like all restaurants on the island this year, is morphing to become what it needs to be. No one really knows yet what that means. I have eaten there weekly since they opened and it’s often been because there aren’t other options when it’s 6 pm and it dawns on you it’s time to eat. Other places are not open or close an hour earlier than The Pub.

[ed. One year later, all businesses on the island are still in recovery. I ate at the Pub last night and was impressed by the Merlot French Onion Soup and the Sweet Potato Salad with a bistro steak added. Beautifully done.]
I’ve seen people come in who think they’re entitled to jump line, push ahead of other families waiting because (as all could hear) they had been customers for more than 50 years. Am I giving 5 stars? No, I’m saving that for the day when the manager and hostess are satisfied they have done all they can. I see progress and want to be supportive of workers who are trying. Oh, I too have been a customer for more than 50 years. With your attitude in the right place, you’ll enjoy the Pub as much as we do.

All the food we had was killer. The drinks weren't bad, but that was the only thing less than stellar. The pork belly appetizer was perfection, the pork tenderloin was better than I could have ever hoped, and the prices weren't even terrible. I've paid much more for much worse food.

We came in at around 6 pm and they were slammed. We had a party of 11 people and they said the wait might be an hour and they would text us as soon as they were ready. We went back to our rental and chilled for a bit (had a beer). They texted us about 30 minutes later and said our table would be ready in 5 min. We got there and they had set up several tables together all with a table cloth over it, looking out over Lake Superior - beautiful!

We ordered drinks and appetizers - the roasted brussels sprouts were amazing. The 'bootlegger' cocktail was so good, and the pinot grigio I had with my 'bar mussels linguini' was an excellent pair. Everyone else was delighted at the quality of food and the service and wait times were all above average. Very happy with our dinner there. Would definitely go again when next in La Pointe.

The Pub has been our favorite place to go on the island in the past. We have tried a couple of times this year. I understand that they need staff but the lack of leadership and customer service starting with the manager to the hostess is unbearable. We had an awful and disrespectful experience with the hostess and manager at this place. We have been going to the Pub for 25 years and have never been treated this unprofessionally. We were part of a group of 8. Some people in our group have been customers for 55 years. We were taken from our table, after ordering, when we were told by another staff member that we could sit there. A very bizarre and surreal experience. They suggested we come back in a couple weeks when they knew what they were doing and give them a second chance. Pack some food in a cooler and don’t ever go there. This review has nothing to do with our servers who was calm, kind and exceptional during this truly very uncomfortable and odd incident.

When I asked why the gratitude was charged I was told any party of 6 or more it is added on automatically. I did not see that posted any where in the restauraunt or on the menu. It's like the wiatress knew she had the gauranteed tip so she didn't feel like she had to provide adequate service to our table. Very Very disappointed in the service we recieved!! I asked one of the bartenders if the restaurant was open, and he directed us to go through a door to the bar. The bar was way too loud, so we went outside.
