We had the rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding at Red Oak in September. Heidi and her crew did a wonderful job. Heidi helped me put together a menu with wonderful offerings from their delicous walleye and beef tenderloin, to the unique surf and turf offering. As always, their selection of drinks from the bar was outstanding. Serving 40 people as one group is not easy when you also have your usual crowd. Red Oak did a nice job. The Peach Tart appetizer and Truffled fries were great.

Hands down my favorite restaurant. The ambience, the local foods used, the hospitality. Truly a diamond in the rough. And the food is glorious on the palate.

The best dining experience I've had around here by far! Everything is locally sourced and the prices are the same or better than most other places. The atmosphere and service were really good too. I will be coming back asap.

Visited Red Oak for their Pours and Pets on the Patio event. Great time, thank you for putting it on and fundraising for a great rescue. Stayed for lunch and the food was fantastic. Really like the focus on local food and drinks. Kind of reminds me of a Clarkson Farm Farmers Dog pub/restaurant local focus, except Red Oak did it first!! Keep up the great food!

We tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday. We were excited about the Farm-to-table concept. Here is an honest review of all things we experienced.

The server was kind and attentive. She explained before even taking our order that there would be an automatic 20% added to the bill for sustainable wage.

We ordered a “mocktail” and two entrees. The mocktail prices are not included on the menu so make sure to ask if that is something you are interested in.

The Pork Orzo entree came and it was not up to fine dining standards…the orzo was overcooked and the meatballs were dry. They were actually hard and dry and looked “old” when the dish was presented. It was also not particularly hot in temperature…maybe lukewarm. After one bite, I asked the server if I could see a menu and she took the dish away.
The roast chicken was good and we kept it and finished it. The flavors were very good. The cream sauce served with the veggies was not as warm as we would have liked it to be.

We ordered an asparagus salad to replace the pork orzo. One of the reasons I chose a salad was because I was hoping it would come fast (since nothing needs to be cooked) and we could eat the entrees together. It took an extremely long time to get the salad…we were done with eating the chicken before getting the salad. The salad was fresh, and the asparagus and mushroom components tasted good…but the dressing and salad as a whole had very little flavor. I asked our server for salt and pepper.

We decided to forgo dessert and asked for our bill. When she brought it to us…although the pork orzo price had been taken off the bill, the tip amount had not been changed to reflect the salad replacement. So we were actually being charged a 30% tip for the food we had consumed. We pointed it out to our server. The system wouldn’t allow them to change it to 20% so they ended up taking it off completely and we added 20% back onto our card for her tip.

We were surprised that a visit to our table from the manager/owner after having to send back the food did not happen…no checking in to make sure we were satisfied as customers or an apology from higher management for the inconveniences and the wait that our salad took. We did receive an apology from the server, she was very sweet, but for a high end restaurant with these prices we expected more…sometimes, at other restaurants, even a free dessert or comping a drink is offered and none of that happened in this instance. We left feeling like nobody really cared if we came back again.

This was our first time visiting this establishment, and it will be our last.

I read all the reviews..
I do not understand what happened with us??
We loved this place when we walked in
Waited 1 hour for food, over cooked, mushy cold fries, then was bummed rush to get out because they were closing
Rude male waiter and unfriendly female
Adding 20% on bill.??.that is for good service, not to keep your employees happy.
Very sad to have this happen, Maybe because we are not locals from West Bend?

mandatory 20% tip.

Disappointing, read other reviews about service being slow which is fine as long as you have drinks/apps to chat and hangout with. but our service was nonexistent. Everything was snails pace from being seated to leaving. We tried to be patient as our server mentioned he was newer and we could see the staff was very frazzled. It was busy but not busy enough to where the service was warranted. i truly think they had forgotten we were sitting there. the table behind us, you could see that they were actually going to the bar to get there drinks.

the food was delicious which is the only reason for any stars. unfortunately probably would not go back.'

First time guest. Food was delicious and fresh! Service was pleasant but very slow, despite the dining room not being busy @ 715pm.

Server asked if I preferred baked potato with my meal instead of the fries. I happily accepted but it came with the fries anyway. 🫤

Drinks took forever to arrive, although again the house was not busy. Server never asked during the meal if I wanted another drink.

Server explained at the beginning that there was a service charge added to the menu. Unfortunately (for the house) it was less than I would have tipped if it hadn’t already been added.

Well, sad to say we were disappointed in our experience last night. The Red Oak had been on of our favorite spots, we even had our wedding reception here. The last couple times we’ve went we were a bit disappointed, so we held off and haven’t been back in almost a year in hopes that maybe they turned things back around. Unfortunately, once again we were not happy and spent over $100 on our meal!

The last time we went, both ordered a filet ($50 each mind you, so not cheap!). Both came out well done instead of medium-medium rare as asked. We sent it back and then they came out properly cooked. When you’re paying that much, that shouldn’t happen!

This time around, first off it took a while for anyone to come to the table at all and in between visits, it was a long wait. So the service itself was pretty slow. We ordered a charcuterie board as an appetizer, and were disappointed in this, was missing items that were listed on the menu, and it just seemed like there was not much on there for what it cost!

Then for entrees… I had salmon and my husband had a burger. I believe the bun for the burger was from some local bakery shop which was literally crumbling as he ate it, that in itself was a frustrating experience. While we appreciate the fresh bun, it should be able to hold up with the burger! The burger itself was also VERY salty! My salmon was alright, but it too was crazy salty, and the risotto did not have any “Parmesan” flavor whatsoever.

I don’t know if Chef Josh is still there, but the last couple experiences have not been good. I love the fresh farm to table menu, however, I almost think they’re trying to be too fancy, and even so, overly salted proteins, missing items, and crumbling bread, those are basics that shouldn’t happen! I’m Sad to say we probably won’t be back again, at least not for a while, which is so disappointing since this once was our favorite restaurant! 🥺

The Red Oak restaurant has been on our to-do list for some time. The menu is locally sourced ingredients, fresh and delicious. The service was exceptional. Maddie, our server was upbeat and spot on with the service.

Our first appetizer was a special of the day... Cheese Board, the cheeses were delicious. We also had Creamy Asparagus with Parmesan. The asparagus were cooked perfectly, and the Parmesan cream sauce was amazing! We actually had a small plate left on the table with the sauce on it and ended up dipping my filet into it. I couldn't get enough!

The entrees were Grilled Tenderloin Filet and another special for the night, 16 Oz Rib Eye. Both steaks were also perfectly cooked. The salad was so refreshing, the lemon vinaigrette was was light, and full of flavor. Our dinners far exceeded our expectations!

Finally, we ended our dinner with the Keto Cheesecake. The flavor of the day was Butterscotch Cheesecake. Not only is it Keto, but the flavors were amazing. Who would ever believe that a cheesecake that is Keto Friendly could taste so fantastic! Our only regret was that we didn't get our own slice!

The Red Oak Restaurant is a gem. We have just found our new favorite restaurant!

I have been here several times but after last night, I will not be back. The service was fine, our server was great. Unfortunately, the food fell far short of expectations. I ordered a filet medium rare but that steak was still mooing when I got it. I hate complaining but I had to send it back. When I finally got it back, it was cooked a little more, still rare, cold and the rest of the plate was ice cold also. For the price, I expected better.

Been going here a while just love everything about it. I am amazed each time the menu changes. I'm not that adventurous about pairing flavors and I swear sometimes I order stuff just to see how the ingredients work together and wow they always do! And it's all local.
My only problem is choosing an entree. There is usually a last minute decision between 2 or 3, and still never disappointed. I would recommend reservations, yet I find myself not that organized sometimes and still they accommodate us.

The prices for the food was exorbitantly high for what you received, and the portions were small. The service has a long way to go to justify the 20% so called living charge. Our neighbors told us good things about the restaurant, so we gave it a try. Unfortunately, I doubt we'll come back. The food was not prepared well and they missed on 5 pet peeves. While the Red Oak is differentiating itself with an elevated farm to fork food source and menu, the staff and kitchen are not delivering on the expectation (or $40+ price for 2 breakfasts).
- #1 Nearly ignored at the hostess stand. (We were quickly greeted with "I'll be right with you" as the hostess(?) was doing something with the bartender near us. After several minutes waiting, she repeated the greeting and walked away. After several more minutes, we asked the bartender if we could get a table. So she summoned the hostess who returned (appearing miffed).
- #2 "Do you have a reservation?" she inquired with a tone. Seeing the restaurant was 2/3 empty ... why does that matter?
- #3 She walked us to the far corner of the restaurant and suggested we sit at a lonely table, as if we were on a "time-out." We opted for a 4-top next to ta window. Thank goodness, a trained waitress came by to take out order. Very nice. She returned with our tea and coffee, with 2 complimentary slices of banana/blueberry/cheesecake bread. Unfortunately, we couldn't eat the bread. It had a chemical ingredient taste the begged to be taken out of your mouth.
- #4 Then they checked the box for one of my top irritants: they serve hot food on cold plates. My hot coffee was poured into a refrigerated(?) cup that turned the coffee cold by the time I was done. Complimenting the hot/cold strategy, my wife's dish was served on a cold plate with a bed of hot potatoes topped with a bed of cold lettuce greens topped with two hot poached eggs topped with cold lox. My dish with 2 fried eggs (ordered medium) were served well-done. No liquid yolk could have bee squeezed out of them. So I politely asked for a re-do... and the new pair was better.
- #5 Then we tempted ourselves with a dessert menu. And when asking the waitress if she preferred the tirimi su or bread pudding (out of the 5 choices), she replied that she hadn't tried either of them. And so we decided that we shouldn't either.
PS. Hope you have better luck. I'll just keep dreaming of the good old Denny's $2.99 Grand Slam.

Love the feel of the restaurant and their philosophy. They use fresh ingredients and have a seasonal menu so they can source food from the community. They charge a 20% hospitality fee which is the tip for the entire staff so you don't have to even think about math at the end of your meal. You won't regret anything you order here... and because everything is local and fresh, the menu changes seasonally. There are a few menu staples that you can always find, like the bison burger... but every season brings something fresh and exciting! Tonight, for instance, I was treated to a peach and goat cheese tart with spicy honey glaze for an appetizer... one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted. Such a perfect balance of sweet and savory with a hint of spice. The menu had many peach flavored dishes to choose from, as it is the season, including a peach cocktail! Did I mention the cocktails also change seasonally? Staff is wonderful and friendly as well as tentative. It's an intimate, cozy setting. Reservations are a must!!

I had the pleasure of joining my friend for her work party at The Red Oak Restaurant on 4/18. I was told the restaurant opened on a day they are normally closed just for this party. Everything we ordered was very delicious - drinks, appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts. The whitefish and risotto that I had was so good.

The highlight of the evening was the service! All the staff members were attentive and accommodating. I need to give a special shout-out to Stefani! She served us a lot of our drinks and food and she did an excellent job with our large group. She knew the food and drink menus very well. Stefani was able to give suggestions on drinks based on popularity since she was not of drinking age herself. She has definitely found a good fit for herself in the restaurant industry. Her customer service skills are top-notch for someone her age and with what I can only imagine is a few years of experience. I will be sure to request her as my server when I return.

Ambiance isnt that good for a romantic setting. Loud kids everywhere and the music you cant hear. Then they took creme brûlée off the menu. Wont be back probably.

We ate at the Red Oak this morning for breakfast for my husband’s birthday and everything from the service to the food was phenomenal. I had the ham and smoked gouda stuffed crepes and they were the best bite I’ve had at a local restaurant in a long time. We love their entire business model from reducing waste to paying their employees a living wage, and plan to support them a lot more in the future. They even gave our daughter a beanie baby on the way out. Such a nice place!

No tipping 👍. Each check has a service fee to ensure staff are consistently compensated fairly. The menu changes seasonally, cocktails are thoughtfully made, and many ingredients are locally sourced.

Made a reservation for 5 adults and one 1 year old. We were seated on time but the hostess asked us if we wanted water and no one came back with it. It took 1/2 hour for a waitress to take drink orders and about an hour before drinks were delivered. Entrees came about 1.5 hours after our arrival. The wait staff were nice and somewhat apologetic.
Our food was mediocre at best. The baked cod had no flavor and came with a butter wine sauce that was also flavorless. The fries that came with most dishes were over-cooked being unpleasantly dark and too crunchy. Prices were on the high side and included 20% service fee which we would have been happy to pay for good food and timely service.
The local food concept for Red Oak is good. We want them to do well but they really failed on this dinner.

We came into celebrate an event. First time for us. Our opinion, service was so slow for a week night. It took so long to get our food, even though locally sourced portions they were tiny for the price. My son had a burger that was so small it looked like a slider. The sweet spicey pork was bland and had next to nothing for sauce. My medium $49.00 filet was burnt on top with the 3 burnt mushrooms(not edible) must of been for decoration. Salmon was presented well and normal size, but you get nothing with it. At least throw a order of fries(least costly) if you can't throw in veggies.
The bread sticks were fancy, but on opposite ends were flexible difficult to bite off. The bread was so hard to bite didn't want filling to come out, would be ok for dipping sauce.
Having a set hospitality charge that's taxed as well, kind of makes sense on very slow service, your not counting on a tip so why would you get top performance. That also tells me there could of been issues in the past with low tips, rightly sonif poor service. Makes me wonder. The waitress was very nice. They seemed short handed, but took forever to get a receipt and we just got up to register to pay for it couldn't wait any longer. For a smalll party with a huge bill with only a couple of drinks, hard to justify $400.00 expense. Ya we were disappointed unfortuately hard to see the value.

The place was very nice inside. The servers were nice. The food was OK and a bit pricey. They said they rotate / change their menu from time to time. There were six of us and only one person said there food was good, but very little meat. She had the beef tips. My son ordered a burger and said it was OK with all 6 French fries thar came with it. There is an imposed 20% gratuity which we usually pay 20% anyway. Not likely that we will be back.

The bar was cluttered with "stuff", no seating. Gratuity added to bar bill, wouldn't have known if I hadn't asked. Strange. Ordered the shepherd's pie. It was a covered pile of pulled pork that had cooked too long. Though my friends liked their entrees. Won't be in a hurry to go back.

Overall nice cozy restaurant. Not the biggest selection of entrees. Everything is on the expensive side. Portion size is on the small side. Guess it's to be expected when you promote locally grown meat and vegetables.

The cocktails and food were AMAZING. On par with fine dining resturants like Sebastians! Only downside was the waitress was a bit slow and there were maybe 7 smaller tables total between several waitresses. Drinks were empty for about ten minutes before we could get her attention. Highly recommend the Amanda-Mosa as well as the pork belly mac-n-cheese and chicken and mashed potatoes! Will definitely be going back!

The whole experience was awful. Me and my fiancé went there for the first time tonight and we’re very much disappointed, for the price of what we ordered it definitely wasn’t worth it or the time. If you do go there yourself don’t even waste your time ordering the salmon because that’s all you get and no sides with it not to mention it’s a very small piece. As for the bread they give you with the sandwiches it’s too hard to nearly even bite into. Definitely won’t be going back to that place ever again. SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR BETTER PLACES PEOPLE BECAUSE THIS ONE ISNT WORTH IT.

Weekday Dinner? Special Date Night? Sunday Breakfast? or Wedding Rehearsal Dinner? There is no other place in Southeast Wisconsin I'd recommend before The Red Oak Restaurant. As permanent resident of Chicago, my fiancée and I have spent the majority of the pandemic staying at our lake home in Racine County. Our choice was a no-brainer for maximizing our outdoor space during this time, but were certain our options for great culinary experiences that we were accustomed to in Chicago would be slim to none.

This was immediately dispelled by our first visit to The Red Oak. The wait staff, manager, and bartenders provided top-level service, which common throughout Racine County, but the food and cocktails were out of this world. Over 2020, my fiancé visited the Red Oak 10 more times and we fell in love with the vintage bar, extensive cocktail list, rotating menus, staff and quaint yet elegant dining room.

We enjoyed our experiences so much that we decided to hold our rehearsal wedding dinner and welcome party at the Red Oak. The manager, Heidi, was extremely easy to work with and accommodating of our needs. Our guests, which were about 150, had an awesome time and could not stop raving about the food, drink list and awesome outdoor space.

Some personal favorites are first and foremost the Chicken and Fish and Chips, which are menu staples, but seasonally rotating menus and locally sourced ingredients make for great new options every time.

The Red Oak is a culinary gem and their staff is so welcoming. We are so lucky to have come across it and can't wait to be back next.

Had high expectations of this farm to table restaurant. It has an inventive menu and a great cocktails/wine/beer list. Unfortunately, both food and service were disappointing. Service: ordered beer twice - before and during dinner. Waited for the first beer for 15 minutes (it's just a beer in a bottle, not a cocktail, which needs to be prepared). During dinner ordered the 2nd beer - same story. While i was waiting for beer mid-dinner, the waiter stopped by and asked if we wanted deserts (we still had half of our meal on the plate) - very odd timing.
Food: Bison burger tasted great (and was cooked to the right level), but the brioche bun was literally fried in butter - to the point that it was hard to cut with a knife - instead of being lightly toasted. I wish the amount of mushrooms was triple, so that i could at least taste them.
Fries were unevenly cooked - some light and slightly soggу, others burnt.
So at the end, what seems like a promising restaurant did not deliver on the most simple thing - burger and fries.
I can not recommend this restaurant
