Be very careful trying to find the place, especially at nite as there are few if any lights. If you leave the paved road you'll end up in dirt shoulders.

It's difficult to rate this place. Some pics show table covered in white linen tablecloths but that was only for special occasions. This is not a fancy place. No menus, their dinner choices are posted at one end of the restaurant on a chalkboard. There aren't that many dinner choices. I ordered a shrimp Po boy. It was usually served with lettuce ( Iceberg, quite fresh) and tomatoes. I asked it be served without the tomatoes and, of course, I got them anyway. The server was quite gracious when I requested they be removed. The person I was with ordered their garlic soup and a hamburger. She said both were good as well as my PO Boy.

The place is quite difficult to get to at nite, as I said, there is a lack of road lighting. Not certain if I'll return

We stopped in for a birthday party. We were the very first ones in and out waitress took very good care of us and explained everything really well. I will say the chicken wings are still the best that I've found around the area. My smoked chicken sandwich was also very very good. After the place started filling up the service went down a little, because like every other restaurant probably under staffed a bit. Awesome visit and we will be back.

After 4 visits, I think I've given it a good try to say we won't be back again. The wings & curds are very good, but everything else is terrible, including the service. After trying it out 4 different times, I have so many different things go wrong from inedible food (raw ribs they took back but never comped) to serious service issues. But it's always the customers fault in their eyes. Read the other reviews with any criticism - you'll see the response is always excuses & deflecting, like our poor experiences are legit. No thanks.

Wow! That gumbo was so good flavorful, light, and still hardy. They can sell that gumbo by the pint and I’d buy it! I ordered the shrimp po-boy and couldn’t finish it all. The prices are good and atmosphere is fun and relaxing. The wait staff is really nice and friendly! I think more people should know that they have this phenomenal restaurant so close to home. The only thing is they were out of the dirty rice and I really wanted to try that. I guess I have to go back!

The Southern Stop is an unusual location, with an equally unusual southern flavor in the south of Wisconsin? We were thrilled to find this great southern restaurant! We had the gator bites (best we have ever had) the Jumbalaya and a shrimp po boy sandwich. Everything was served very well, had great flavor, and had that great southern home cooked meal to it. Great place. Small town vibes. A football game was on so all the bar stools were filled. Not an issue for us as the wife and my 3 yo enjoyed the table seating area. Service was quick and attentive. It was cool out. Wish the fireplace was going. Would have made the ambiance perfect.

I loved the wings here so much, and for good reason- the sauce was great! On one particular visit, however, we got wings that were raw. I get that mistakes happen, and we were super understanding to the waitress about it, but there was some brunette behind the bar, that upon hearing our conversation, mumbled something about them being 'smoked', and gave us evil looks, made a super uncomfortable vibe. They were raw girl, smoked is not slick and pink, but appreciate that opinion. We asked for the check because she made us feel so uncomfortable, and the super nice waitress offered to make us a batch of wings to go...Fine, ok, thanks- they were also raw.

I get that everyone has off nights, but the brunette can pat herself on the back for making the night worse then a mouth full of raw chicken. Props girls, keep up that good work.

This is an amazing gem of a place to have a gathering! It was my choice for a 27th birthday for my kid and wanted something outside of ordinary. Been hearing great things about the "Southern Stop". It did not disappoint us!!
The menue is kind of revolving, different specials every week depending on supply. I totally understand considering the world we live in now. Great standard menu items with a Southern twist and some amazing smoked Cajun entries you just don't see up here! Even brought out funnel cake fries for the birthday spawn! They didn't last long... What we did take home was put in microwave safe to go containers!
Awesome place! Looks like a farm barn from the outside, a supper club on the inside. Even has a banquet room and additional bar on the inside!

Seriously what a disaster. The folks are very nice but the food is extremely over priced. The wings appetizer look like they came from baby quail and $2 each. Had the fish fry at $24 and just terrible. One large fillet that was all mushy and oily. It appears they are trying to pass themselves off as a culinary experience but IMO they shouldn't.

We made a reservation for a large group on a Saturday night so I understand things not going smooth but it took a long time for us to get our food and eat.. total of 3 hour experience. The appetizers we ordered where good (smoked wings and gator bites). The entrées where inconsistent and some unedible. We ordered two servings of gumbo and each of us got two totally different gumbos one was like a brown gravy with shredded chicken and rice and the other was a ridiculous amount of oil and sausage over rice. Then we ordered the cajin pasta that looked good but smelled very fishy and the pasta was over cooked unfortunately that person did not eat. When we brought upt he issues they didn't seem to care and we paid for entire meal even though atleast two of the meals where unedible. Will most likely never go again

So glad this community highlighted this hidden tucked away gem.
Location was interesting and as highlighted before, not intuitive entrance. Seemed what should be the back is the front and front is the back.
Once you get in , take in the chalkboard menu on the wall, is the only one you get. Everything on it sounded delicious.

We ordered the smoked wings, the Mardigras shrimp, and a gumbo each. Hands down amazing food, and surprising in a good way.
Gumbo are huge portions, a meal in itself. Bring your appetite.
We ended up getting another order of wings they made our top spot for wings list!
Can't wait to go back and try out more from this menu.

Absolutely phenomenal food, everything we tried was amazing! The smoked wings are to die for and the BBQ and BOOM BOOM sauce are so addictive, I asked for extras to take home! They were happy to oblige! Such friendly staff. They truly make you feel like you are guests in their home, so warm and inviting.

I had the shrimp po boy with hush puppies, which was phenomenal! My husband and mother in law both had the buttermilk hand battered southern fried chicken sandwich, which they said was the best chicken sandwich they've ever had! Dirty fried rice and truffle fries were fantastic. Even the kids meals we ordered were so good, the adults had to steal some! Hurricane drinks are on point!

We are tough critics when it comes to food and The Southern Stop far exceeded our expectations. All the ingredients they use are fresh and high-quality. There are no short cuts, just amazing recipes that you can tell are a labor of love. With delectable food, awesome drinks, excellent service, and great ambiance you can't go wrong! The atmosphere is very "chill" here and definitely is not the place to go if you're in a hurry. Had the Friday catfish special for dinner and was slightly disappointed. Flavor was good but not great. Was thinking it would come with a side of tartar sauce but it did not. Buffalo tots were unique and definitely good. Food was hot although we waited a little longer than normal tonight. The location is fun. The Wednesday wings were bathed in a delicious sauce and were some of the best I have had. The cheeseburger was delicious and the jambalaya and cajun rice were good. The servers were nice enough, but the service was mediocre. And a pet peeve for me is.... they do not clear dishes from the table when the appetizers are gone or when dishes are empty. It drives me crazy to have empty dishes sitting on the table the entire meal. And then once we were finished with the meal, it was at least 15 minutes before anyone showed up to clear the table. Won't go back for that one reason. Empty dishes sitting on the table ruin the satisfaction of an otherwise good meal.

This is the third time I gave this a try, each time it gets worse. Dinner service should not take over 2.5 hours. Cold food came out. The cat fish was soggy and mush!!! Hush puppies fell apart. French fries were cold! We were forced to sit outside,that was nice until two tables on each side of us were sat and they started smoking!!! It took so long to get our meals, the sun went down and the mosquitoes came out and finished eating before we did. The waitress spilled a drink all over someone at our table. I always like to explore a menu, but I have to slip these in every time I go. The homemade sauce is so carefully crafted you could never find another like it. Seafood in Wisconsin? Crazy, right? But no...so fresh tasting and never overcooked unlike other places you would expect better from. If I die and am reincarnated as a shrimp, I want to die the second time as the centerpiece in one of their po-boys. Could go on forever, but I had to give this family owned place a shout out. Food was excellent. Menu changes everyday minus the wing I think.The deep fried caramel chimichangas were to die for! Definitely try their signature wings, they are sweet/spicy/smokey and finger licking good. The staff is amazing and we will be back very soon!
