1st thing we noticed when we entered were the smiles, after telling them it was our 1st time, it took on a whole new feel. Gilma took us under her wing, like a good mother welcoming guests. She told us about the food and recommended drinks. We got to talking about the hot sauce and jalapenos in it and I never felt more like I was in her home.

The food came, my Ala Diabla and my wife and daughter shared the Paella.... We loved it and their hot sauce made it just a nice heat as I ordered the medium in case the spicy version would have been too much. I'll order it spicy next time though.

I would definitely recommend this place as it will be one of our favorites from now on. Can't wait to come see Gilma again and get one of the specialty drinks in a clay drinking cup.

The horchata was probably the best I’ve had in the states, it was very good, the food is really quite good, very well done, I go here quite often. I give this rating, because I came in fairly recently for just a routine take out order. However when I arrived wanting to use my rewards points they told me I had none, which was I was really surprised to hear because I had close to $40 banked that I was saving up to use at a later date. This was really disappointing to hear, and the woman working didn’t offer to do anything to accommodate for this issue. She claimed they put up a sign on the door saying they changed their systems, so hurry up and use your points or lose them. I hadn’t been in, in a while so I never saw it, and btw it’s not really a proper way to notify customers that they’ll be losing their points because you’re changing your system. They stand to gain a lot from this system change, and I lost a lot!

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this establishment. The service was unprofessional, and the manager/owner demonstrated poor customer communication skills. While the menu is overpriced, I would gladly pay for quality food and exceptional service, but this restaurant delivers neither. The dining setup feels awkward and inconvenient: you order and pay at the counter, seat yourself, and then must return to the counter to pay again if you want anything else. It has the structure of a fast-casual restaurant but without the efficiency or hospitality to justify it. The team, including management, would greatly benefit from proper training in hospitality and customer service. If they intend to charge premium prices, they need to start by listening to customers and elevating both the experience and service. With so many excellent competitors nearby offering far better food and service, this restaurant stands out for all the wrong reasons. Unfortunately, this was by far the worst dining experience I’ve had in the area.

First time here. We stopped in for dinner on a Thursday night. It's located in a stripmall. Big windows on the front that bring in evening (westerly) sun. It's set up to order at the counter, they give you a number, and then bring out your drinks and food.

When we arrived we were greeted by a super friendly staffer. Since it was our first time she explained the process, told us we could open up a tab, which allowed us to get drinks and guac while we decided on the rest of our order.

Our drinks, a Margarita and Paloma were both very good. Generous pours, with interesting seasoned salt on the glasses. They had brought us a small complimentary basket of chips, with some Salsa. The Guacamole that we ordered came with another batch of warm chips. The Guac was was good (not great). We like it a bit chunkier, and it didn't taste "just made fresh".

After a short wait, our food came out. We got a "Uno Dos Tres", with Empanada, Tamale, and Enchilada. Each of those items was very good. The favorite, Beef Empanada was larger than we are used to, deep fried?, with some guajillo cream that was delicious. The Carnitas was also very good too. It came it hot, very tender, and a good portion (took home leftovers).

Throughout the entire meal, the staff/servers checked on us, got us additional napkins, and some waters. Very attentive for having counter ordering.

With the exception of the Guac, the meal was excellent. Definitely come back again.

What a revelation! Menu is filled with a wide variety of dishes. Ordered the shredded beef chile relleno and beef empanada for lunch, with grilled veggies and street corn as sides. Everything was scrumptious - nothing saturated in sauce or cheese, lovely clean & clear flavors. Staff is friendly and efficient, restaurant is clean and neat as a pin. Highly recommend. For some time, I believed the Spanish Traveler was actually a travel agency until a friend asked me to meet them there for dinner:)

Edit - as a dasher, our livelihood is highly dependent on your speed and accuracy as a business. A multitude of orders placed after mine were handed out. Not only that, but after completion of the order, you failed to inform me for a good period of time, which seemed to be intentional. You also didn't start preparing the order until I had already arrived. Calling me out directly not only illuminates your lack of professionalism but your pettiness as well. First time visit and it was awesome. Ordered the Mahi Mahi Carmen Miranda and it is my new favorite dish (and one of the best Horchatas i have had). The food quality and flavors at this restaurant are some of the best for Mexican food in the Milwaukee Lake Country area. Prices are on the high end, but it’s very fresh, high quality ingredients and not weighed down with extra oils and grease like a lot of other places. You can tell their sauces are handmade in-house based on the unique flavors and freshness and even their rice carries more flavor than most places. If you order to-go they don’t include chips and it’s expensive to order them on the side, but other than that, portion sizes are good on the entrees from what I’ve had. You order at a counter, however it’s a nice atmosphere, and usually quick, friendly service. The mole and verde enchiladas are fantastic. We will be going back.

My experience here was very bittersweet. We received a kids' size amount of chips, and the portions were pretty small. The chips were free but were served in a very small basket. This restaurant is only appropriate for one or two people dining. The chips tasted stale and overcooked. The salsa was okay, kind of lacked flavor. The horchata was pretty good, I really enjoyed it. I put in an order of the quesadilla. They looked kids sized and only came with sour cream. I was pretty disappointed that the tortillas were so tiny and cost 14 dollars! I paid full price for something that cost the same as a quesadilla with filling of veggies or meat. That just doesn't make any sense. The little quesadillas and a cup of horchata cost me $20. I was extremely disappointed. The food is overpriced, and I don't see myself coming back. You can literally make this at home, and for the price, you can feed your whole family. I understand inflation isn't helping, but the south side of milwaukee has affordable tacos and quality food. I am mexican, lived in Cali, and have tasted tacos across the US and Mexico. If you want Authentic latinx food, there are a lot of restaurants on the south side of milwaukee who are worth your buck. Some are Arandas, Azteca, Ricanmex. These are just a few of many!

You have to order at the counter which is fine, but the poor girl had no help as a young lady was standing next to her doing absolutely nothing. We order the food and I asked if I could have a fresh jalapeño with my guacamole, she asked the kitchen and they said they didn’t have it. I also upgraded my plate for a meal after I was told that there was more than soda on the fountain (I don’t drink soda) I go and try to get lemonade or HiC and it wasn’t working. Go sit down and take a bite of the guac and it was browning and tasted old so I go and stand in line AGAIN to order 2 sides of avocado so I can make my own guac on the table. As I’m in line the man (I assume he’s the manager or owner) goes by the sodas and then comes and tells me that it works! He doesn’t know why it didn’t when I tried but ummm it’s working fine. I apologized a few times and swore to him I tried it a few times before I said anything. You guys…. My friend was sitting at the table and seen press it, nothing came out and then seen HIM TURN THE KEY to turn it on! He made me feel as if I was making it up when he turned the key to turn it on. Now our food comes, my friend thought she was ordering 2/3 tacos and upgraded it for a drink and 2 sides for almost $13, she got 1 taco! The food was bland but I will say, the lady busing the tables was on it and very sweet. After all of this, my bill was $60, I tipped 20% and we’re still hungry.

It was my first time trying Paella, and i think with Escabeche, it was a perfect dish. Black bean cup, with the cast iron "A La Diabla" skillet and corn tortillas, made amazing flavorful tacos. This was our first encounter with the establishment. Nice dim lighting, inviting entrance(looked trendy) and we were greeted with smiles. As I looked around the dining area I saw just the opposite of inviting. The tables were completely bare, and to be honest I didn't find it aesthetically pleasing at all. Please take down the large menu board behind the register. You have too many items to go thru while standing. Having dim lighting is nice, but we couldn't read the board that is eight feet away from us on a high wall behind a register. We wear readers and still had a hard time. This leads me into, if there were menus at the table we could sit and look at the menu, or just sit since I need knee surgery. Needless to say, this place was a bust for us. We ended up walking out gracefully, but a very beautiful place.

The portions are okay , definitely not the freshest food, i dont know what happened after covid but this food is so bland now , its lost any flavor or even authenticity. While I understand the need to appeal to a wider audience , this is a resturant for no one. The food honestly makes me ashamed to be mexican, 28 dollars for a burrito. They know the quality dipped as they make you pay upfront when you order. The aesthetic was alright if not a bit lifeless and colorless. If ur looking for better value and a better tasting meal, check ur local frozen mexican food section, youll prolly find them shopping there for ingredients too. Homemade chips were nice , Guac and Salsa were little more than water and flavor. If you wanna eat here bring some limes and salt. Their cooks also dont wash their hands or kitchen as me and my fiance both were sick to our stomach after getting home after choking their food down.

While their main menu is normal Mexican type food (tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc), this restaurant offers a "traveling menu" featuring the cuisine if a different Latin American country each month. What a unique concept! This month is Nicaragua. The Pollo Jalapeño is excellent, a blend of delicious flavors served with black beans and rice and plantain chips. I went with my friend and her grandson for a late lunch, around 2 pm. No one was there that Thursday afternoon. They have you place your order at the counter, and then they bring it to you. While you wait for your food you are given chips and salza. Their specials are excellent and drinks are delicious. I wasn't that hungry, so I had a taco and 2 sides. Thier "pick one, two, three". The taco was normal sized and overstuffed. Mine was something with pulled pork and ginger. It was the right balance of both. I loved the fried plantains and street corn as well.

The ideal take of what modern Mexican should be. Casual environment, counter order. Tacos and burritos were delish. I would probably not get the guacamole again, nothing standout about it. Can’t wait to come back for dinner and try the margarita!

A hidden gem, don’t let the fact that this is located in a strip mall deter you! Excellent, tasty, and nutritious Spanish style cuisine. Highly recommend the cocktails as well! One of if not our favorite Spanish/mexican style food in the area!

Went here on two occasions in my four day trip to Pewaukee. Such a unique take on so many Mexican favorites!! It was so fun to try all of the different items, as the menu was a la carte! The young man at the counter was a little awkward, but everything else was PERFECT!!

This restaurant is arranged for ordering at the counter with table delivery service for your food. The menu is amazing with many, many choices. The basics of chips and salsa were very good with a few different salsas from mild to hot. We had the Guacamole Fresco and Enchilada meals. All were excellent as evidenced by no left-overs. The margaritas were also very tasty, especially the Spanish Gold. Our servers were pleasantly cordial, and let us stay a little late to finish our food. Only minor negatives were the atmosphere/seating is fairly basic and can be a bit noisy, and the prices were a bit on the higher side compared to others in this category. But, overall a great experience and definitely recommend.

The food was very good and service was terrific. Everyone was very friendly. There is a large, reasonably priced, menu with something for everyone. The concept is similar to a Qdoba where you order your meal at the counter. When your food is ready it is brought out to your table. Orders came out very quickly. So if you're on a lunch break from work, you won't be crunched for time. My only suggestion would be that the dining area could use a little more decoration/pizzazz.

Interesting restaurant. You have order your food at the counter when you enter. They give you a table number and you go find an open table. It is self serve sodas.
They keep your credit card open in case you want to add anything.
The owner's mom stopped by and told us the history of the restaurant.

DO NOT GET THE QUESO. The menu says “three cheese blend” but they neglect to tell you that blend is about 90% cream cheese 🤢 it was the worst queso I’ve ever had. The audacity to charge $9+ dollars too. Rest of the food was decent but overpriced. Sorry, wanted to love it, but that queso is a crime against cheese.

Absolutely amazing food. Seriously some of the best barria (butchering the spelling here) tacos I’ve ever had. Also had some chili queen that was amazing. Staff are all also super nice and the decor is mad cute. Kicking myself for not finding out about this place sooner. Will definitely be back again!
