We had an incredible experience at this gem in Hayward!

Karen, our bartender, was an absolute rockstar mixologist, whipping up drinks like a well-oiled machine behind the bar—each cocktail was pure perfection.

Our waitress, Rita, was equally impressive, guiding us through the menu with spot-on recommendations and impressive knowledge.

The bluegill and rib tip appetizers were mouthwateringly delicious, stealing the show.

Disappointing Experience at Our Wedding Reception

We had our wedding here and while the venue itself has potential, the experience was incredibly disappointing due to how we and our guests were treated — especially by the owner.

Things started off promising. We were told we’d be given a complimentary hotel room for our wedding night, which seemed like a kind gesture — until that, too, was taken away without any explanation.

We had the entire hotel completely booked out for ourselves and our wedding guests, yet just two days before the wedding, we were suddenly informed they only had 140 chairs available for the ceremony. Our confirmed guest list was 230. This kind of last-minute oversight created a lot of unnecessary stress.

During the reception, things got even worse. The owner was ripping drinks out of people’s hands and swearing at them — even though many of those drinks came from the guests’ own hotel rooms, in a hotel we had entirely rented out. Instead of calmly informing people of the venue’s policy, the owner chose aggression and profanity.

Several elderly guests were yelled at for mistakenly getting up to go to the buffet and were told they were “ruining everything.” No one deserves to be spoken to that way — especially not at a wedding.

To make matters worse, two employees from the attached Steakhouse were drinking on the job, sitting at the bar all night, and ended up starting a fight with guests. Later, they pounded on our hotel room windows and ran when the police were called. Shockingly, they also threatened harm and even death to some of our guests — behavior that was not only unprofessional but truly frightening.

Later in the night, after a guest set off a small confetti popper on the dance floor (something we had no knowledge of), the owner pulled me — the bride — out of the photo booth and began yelling and swearing at me in front of everyone. She even threatened to shut down our DJ — someone we had hired and paid for ourselves. There were countless more respectful and professional ways this could have been handled.

While the actual wedding ceremony was beautiful and we’re so thankful for our loved ones who made the day special, the reception turned into a nightmare due to the way we were treated. We had planned to celebrate until bar close, but instead we left early and went next door to Flat Creek, where we were welcomed with kindness and respect — the way paying customers should be treated.

After all the planning, time, and money we invested in this day, it’s heartbreaking that it was overshadowed by such unprofessional and unacceptable behavior. I would not recommend this venue to any couple looking for a stress-free, respectful, or professionally run wedding experience

We wanted to treat our friends to a special evening as a way to thank them for their hospitality, but unfortunately, the experience fell way short.|Our server was friendly, but she admitted she usually works as a receptionist/greeter and only knows the appetizer section. That might be fine in a casual setting, but when you’re paying $45 for a steak, you expect knowledgeable service. She couldn’t suggest a steak cut, took our order incorrectly, and seemed unsure throughout the night.|The food itself was disappointing. The French onion soup tasted off, almost like drinking a giant crouton, and the first steak served to me came out medium-well with burnt edges (like from a dirty grill), instead of the Rare+1 I ordered. The potato was hard, and the cheese on top was cold and congealed.|By that point, I didn’t even want to send it back because my guests just wanted to leave. For the price point and reputation, we expected far better quality and attention to detail. Sadly, it was not the special thank-you dinner we hoped to share with our friends.

This review is for the resturant. We feel mixed about our experience. The food was delicious however the service was incredibly slow. Like ridiculously slow. There was not many tables at all. We arrived at 5:30pm and didn't get our entrees until 7:00pm. Refills were hard to come by and we were given two baskets of bread which were not enough for everyone at the table to get a piece. I did approach someone and kindly asked to check on our food because we considered leaving because our children were starving and luckily we were the next table out. We were not offered any compensation for inconvenience like most resturants would. Again the food was delicious and steaks cooked to perfection. So if you can take three or more hours for dinner then the food is great.

As elegant as a restaurant can be inside of a lodge. It's set up to cater large groups of people. However, they were short-staffed and service took longer than anticipated. The French onion soup was delicious, although it was a bit on the salty side, but for my taste it was exceptional! The service was satisfactory, considering there were 11 tables in the dining hall, and all the tables in the bar were full as well, and they only had four servers. But these girls were hopping and did an excellent job.
We arrived at 5:30, got drinks within the first half hour, put in our orders, appetizers arrived approximately 2 hours. Later, main course arrived at hour three. Because we stopped on a whim, we had to box up our meals and head out as soon as our meal arrived. We had left our dogs and our camper.
The food however was delicious! I ordered the ribs. My husband ordered the ribeye.
Excellent place if you have time to kill and aren't in a hurry!

This review is for the restaurant and bar. We stopped in (7-9-25) as we were passing through Hayward on a road trip. The dinning room is beautiful and has so much potential. The menu is very limited. I ordered the ribeye cooked med rare to medium. What I received was steak that had beautiful grill marks but was still blue on the inside, not pink it was blue! My girlfriend ordered the fillet mignon med rare and got a fillet that was cooked well. We paid the bill and I brought my steak home and cooked it. The baked potato was ok and the roll was not bad. The French onion soup was not good. I have had better at apple bee's. If the owners would open there wallet and hired a chef and maybe add more rooms, this place could make millions! I was very disappointed with the whole experience.

Spacious lodge and dining with a rustic charm. Was not overly impressed with the meal or service. Was difficult to get server’s attention and multiple items were forgotten for the table and the meal. Came with very wilted and pathetically prepared side salad. The prime rib was mediocre at best. Minimal flavor, was not a “melt in your mouth” cut by any means, and took a little effort to cut with a knife. No sides served with it…just the meat and potato (no idea what the orange slice was all about). The New York Strip was decent enough. No au jus, horseradish, steak sauce, butter etc and at no point was asked or offered any. This place has potential with some more experienced employees and trained staffing on fine dining etiquette, it could be excellent (this includes the need for more experienced chef). There are better places in the area for a good steak and prime rib if you’re looking this isn’t the one.

I have been to this restaurant in 2019, 2020, 2021, & 2024. The first two years were really good. 2021 ok, & this year was not so good. Limited menu, no prime rib, the steak was overcooked, and the service was medioaker. In looking at recent reviews, I was not surprised. Very over priced for what we got. This place used to be awesome. Will not be coming back unless I see much better reviews. The people in the room next to us were so loud until at least 10 pm or later and could not go to sleep. Rooms could be more soundproof. Also, there is no padding under the carpet, so if barefoot, it is hard on the feet. They have a beautiful restaurant and really need to put in some updates to the rooms, and it would be a great place again. They would also need to definitely improve the whole food(menu) situation too. They need to hire someone who actually knows how to cook, a good chef. I was so disappointed. 😞

Baked french onion soup had good flavor but there was no broth at all & the bread was all soggy. Steak had good flavor but overpriced for the area. French fries were bland & overcooked. Chicken Alfredo was beyond bland. I almost wanted to ask if the chef was blind & had no taste bud’s but i didnt wanna be rude.

Lastly I've ate at restaurants in chicago Illinois that were the same price as this place but the portions were bigger & the food was 10/10. This place is like a 2/10

Was very excited about the steak. Visiting from out of town. Took forever to get the drinks and food, which took another 1.5 hrs. Everyone got their food except my boyfriend. I rarely leave reviews for establishments because I’m generally easy to please. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, I understand that mistakes can happen. First, I want to highlight that our waitress was extremely kind and absolutely wonderful.

Now, onto the food. I initially wanted to order the stuffed mushrooms, which I’ve always loved, but they were out. No big deal—these things happen. I then opted for the bacon-wrapped scallops, which I truly enjoyed. My family member ordered the fried bluegill appetizer, and when I tried it, I had to immediately spit it out. It tasted off, almost like freezer-burnt or that the fish was a “bottom-feeder fish”. I've never had bluegill that tasted like that…

For my main course, I ordered a 6oz filet (medium rare) with fries and upgraded to the French onion soup. The soup arrived in an unconventional bowl, which I understand—they were busy. However, it was filled to the brim with soggy bread, leaving barely any broth. It was like eating onion-flavored bread rather than soup.

The main courses at our table included two pasta dishes that appeared to have been sitting in the window for quite some time. When my steak arrived, I was disappointed to find that it was cut twice to make it cook faster, resulting in it being smashed and charred. I did not ask for my steak to be butterflied. A medium rare steak doesn’t take long to cook properly and certainly doesn’t need to be cut horizontally twice. The steak was so dark that I initially thought it was overcooked, but it was actually undercooked and rare. Extremely disappointing for $40 dollars.

In the end, I was extremely disappointed with the food quality. I grew up coming to this place, but the last three visits have left me unhappy. I kept returning, hoping it would be as good as I remembered, but something has changed over the years. Unfortunately, I won’t be dining here again.

I have been to a plethora of steakhouses throughout my life and I can say with 100% confidence that this was the worst dining experience I’ve had from any restaurant in any facet. There has never been a time that I would consider even taking a second out of day to write a negative review for an establishment, but this felt warranted and I would not want others to experience what we did. Between the dining experience, staff, and food, I couldn’t be more upset.

When we got to our table the server was quite clearly upset/rude for no reason. Did not offer to bring any bread rolls out and when I asked if they had any (like most steakhouses do) she scoffed and said “yeah I guess I can go get those for you right away if you want”. Then, once we were finished with our salads/drinks, we waited 35 minutes for the table to be cleared and offered more drinks. When the water pitcher was brought back to the table we were never offered to have our water filled, the pitcher was set down on the table and she walked away (quite comical having to fill your own water glasses in a “classy” restaurant). Once we waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food (the table next to us actually walked out), in a restaurant that clearly was nowhere near capacity, I realized that I genuinely think I could’ve made all 4 meals myself in the back kitchen at a remarkably higher quality than what was served to us. The filet and rib eye was literally the quality of a branch/fast food restaurant.

Overall, it was seriously the worst dining experience I think I’ve ever had in my life. Not to mention, after an over priced bill for the quality of food/atmosphere/service we experienced, we walked past the hostess stand and out of the 3 women sitting there not a single one asked how our dinner was or mentioned the typical “thanks for stopping, have a great night!” They were all dead silent and none of them even attempted to make eye contact. This came as enough of a shock that all 4 of my family members mentioned how they noticed it as they left the building.

At least I know if someone asks me where they should eat in Hayward, the easiest response to that will simple be “anywhere but the Steakhouse and Lodge”.

Don't bother wasting your time and money at this restaurant. We went there so I could have BBQ ribs. Of course they were out. My friend ordered a ribeye and wanted mushrooms. Of course they were out of mushrooms. The ribeye was $50! And not cooked to order. My other friend ordered the special (prime rib) it was $45 and just mediocre. Hey Hayward Steak House - you are not Ruth's Chris! They can get away with it, cuz there steaks are fantastic. I ended up ordering Chicken Alfredo. We were given gift cards to use here for our anniversary. Came early and sat at the bar before the dining area was open to enjoy a drink with appetizers. Todd was very helpful in making suggestions for both and very friendly. Once seated in the dining area, Denise, our server, was very sweet and personable and handled our orders very promptly. Review for the restaurant not the lodge.
The steak was good. Went on Saturday for the Prime rib night. Called ahead to see if we needed to reserve seating or when they usually run out of prime rib. They told us they never ran out of prime rib. Unfortunately with our luck, they did run out. Only had one 16 oz prime rib left when we arrived around 7:30 pm.

Besides that the food was great and the service was great. In June the market price for the steaks was around $40 for 12oz ribeye.

Would go back here for steak again. We went right before the summer peak so I can see this place being packed during peak season.

Fantastic burger, best I've had in awhile. The ambience of the place was on point, lots of taxidermy and dark wood. Flights of whisky and a large selection of beer on tap for the adults. I've been to Hayward many times. I had no idea there was a unknown hidden gem that was there. My family and I had our Thanksgiving dinner there this year. The atmosphere, Christmas decor, table settings were warm and inviting. The staff were kind, attentive and prompt. The selection of food at the buffet was everything a Thanksgiving dinner would be and more. The only thing I would say could be improved is the temperature of the food. We did mention it to the waitress.
Overall I would definitely recommend this place and we will be back.

A true gem in Hayward; there is always something happening at the Steakhouse. They host numerous large events like benefits, weddings, etc. and have some of the greatest cooks, bartenders, and servers in the area. Peggy runs a great operation here and it's always a treat to come eat here. The Poke Bowl and the Salmon dinner are my go-to favorites and their French Onion soup is seriously out of this world.

They also have a hotel next door - though I've never stayed in the rooms, I know friend who've stayed here during events like Birkie, etc. and they say its a wonderful quiet place!

The restaurant was beautiful but terrible. I ordered a ribeye. The steak I received had not a trace of marbling. It was so tough I had trouble cutting my medium rare steak with a serrated knife. It was too tough to eat. I left most of it. The bill for two with a drink each was over $100. We received the bill and put a credit card in the folder. Then we waited so long I removed most of the tip.

Very dsappointed in our meal. For an EXPENSIVE steakhouse I was expecting to be able to cut my steak with a fork. Unfortunately, it was more like chewing on leather and it arrived cold. My husband's ribs weren't much better. Waitress was kind. Definitely not worth the price for our meal. Please do not continue to advertise as a steakhouse as this was not even close to steakhouse quality. Spend your hard earned dollars elsewhere.

Very disappointed with this restaurant. Cisco chicken was horrible and steaks were not cooked properly. I will not go back. Best part of the meal was the crock of onio soup, that was fantastic. For a steak house, it is was disappointing that they could not properly cook a steak. Price was too high for the poor quality.

Our server was great. But not enough help in the kitchen. Took almost 2 hours to get our food. And steaks were just OK. And cost....outrageous, two steak dinners potato and salad. Also served a dinner roll. I had water and my husband pop. $100.00 not including tip.

Wasn’t a fan, had the ribs and even you got a lot of food. They seemed like they were just taken out of the packaging. I’ll try cooking more at home with the leftovers. Service was slow, took 15 minutes to get drinks. Our other dish was the fettuccine alfredo, which didn’t have a lot of flavor.

This spot is incredible. I had the chicken with squash ravioli. The dish was the best squash ravioli I’ve ever had. Our waitress Morgan provided excellent service. I would recommend this spot to anyone planning to come through Hayward.

Got alfredo for $14.00. Then next item said 3 shrimp for $15.00 so got the 3 shrimp was shocked total was $29.00 for the alfredo with 3 shrimp.. Tracks alfredo much better. Prices were too high for my tastes.

Went before the night before the birkie as it was one of the only restaurants you could get into. Should have realized why it was empty. I ordered Chicken Alfredo and the chicken was raw. The server told me it wasn't raw and did not offer to reimburse me or give me a new plate. The other members of my party were not impressed with their food either. If you are a skier definitely avoid as they have very little good pre-race food on their menu and consuming raw chicken is a quick way to ruin your birkie the next day.

The place was beautiful and staff was very nice. However our starters were not hot and the food was horrible. I order the Alfredo and it had no flavor. I ate some of veggies out of that but couldn’t stomach the rest. My boyfriend ordered a ribeye medium done but it was very rare on the inside and burnt on the outside. The cook gave us his apologies and offered to replace the steak but he didn’t want to take the chance after another customer had sent his steak back. I emailed the owner this morning and she said was not willing to refund the $48 garbage steak.

Went there with husband for Friday night fish fry, was informed it was no longer all you can eat but the price was still the same. Husband ordered it and was served a plate with 2 pieces of fish on it less than 8oz in weight, one small baked potato, a little dish of tartar and a thing of sour cream. For $16.00.
Appetizer of burnt brisket ends was brought out after main entrees were served. They were found to be tough, and full of grissle. The burger I ordered would have been ok but was ordered medium well and brought out medium rare.
Total bill was $48.00 with water to drink and we walked away hungry.

I stayed here on 10-27-22, and I was disappointed with everything. The owner Margarett complained about everything, like- HOW MUCH SHE HATES HER BUSINESS and she's always broke and in a few years she was selling everything.
I think the food sucked and is overpriced. Also, they had bed bugs in a few hotel rooms too. OMG!!! that's disgusting

We went on NYE, they had a limited menu and no modifications were allowed to any of the choices. Our waitress made a mistake on one of our orders that cost us an extra $30. A member of our party ordered the $45 NY strip and was brought the tomahawk steak for $75. The owner would not budge on the price so we just paid the difference. The tomahawk steaks were excellent but the NY strips were not good cuts of meat. Had to send two back because they were raw in the middle. The sides were good. Service was good but we did wait a long time and had to find someone to check us out. Plus they charge a 4% convince fee of you use a credit card. We were hoping for a better experience, not sure if we will go back.

Went for Thanksgiving buffet. I really expected more than reheated store bought food. I have been before and ordered off the menu so I felt that they would actually be homemade items. I would not recommend going for a buffet. Service was great, though they struggled to keep the buffet items filled. The prime rib was top notch but that was the only item that was worth anything from the selection.

If you’re searching for a wedding venue in the Hayward area, look no further than The Steakhouse! I recently had my wedding reception here and I cannot say enough GREAT things about this establishment. Peggy and her crew helped make everything run beyond smoothly, the food was great, and the hotel rooms connected to The Steakhouse were extremely convenient for us, our wedding party, and parents to stay at. We waited 15 mins for our sodas and we went to the bar to get them. I order a cocktail, never was asked if I wanted another one. The wait staff was very cold and short. Asked for mashed potatoes and my steak be medium well. It came out very pink and they gave me a baked potato and told me I didn't need to eat it and they are out of mashed potatoes. Our server didn't come to see if our dinner was ok.
The restaurant wasn't busy when we came in at 7:15. We didn't get our food till 8:40

While driving through northern Wisconsin on motorcycles, we stumbled upon this spot for a night to stay. The bonus was the adjacent steakhouse. The motel is clean, no frills, and comfortable. The steakhouse had great drinks and top notch food. We got to spend some time talking to the owner while seated at the bar. My New York strip was done to perfection. I also had the French onion soup which was excellent. I will definitely stop back the next time I’m in the area.

We were so disappointed in the food and the service!! First we sat without anything to drink, finally the person who sat us offered to get us water. I ordered a ribeye steak, it was less than a quarter of an inch thick and it was over done and charred; inedible! My sister ordered fries, the waitress spilled half of them on the floor, we asked for ketchup, we never got it. There were a few things we asked for and never got. I asked for a diet soda, she brought me the wrong kind of soda, so I sent it back but never took it off our bill. We told the owner about the poor service and food; we didn’t even get an apology. It is frustrating to pay for items you can’t eat or drink!!!
We would have ordered an appetizer, but never asked if we wanted one…. The list goes on, and on!!!

We chose to go here due to having celiac disease and needing to be gluten free. At first I wasn't sure they knew what I needed, but then the waitress took great care of me. She brought out my salad first and my entre first to make sure it had the right care taken. The food was delicious and the service and atmosphere was great.
