If you cook steak as a staple on the menu the temps have to be better. Our well was pink. The med rare was black and blue and my chicken must have been cooked a week before they served it to me. It was drier than Death Valley. :-(. The other items were good but we came for the meat and it wasn’t great. All the other items got it to three stars. But the meat abuse is unforgivable.

This location is a must when visiting the area!!! My wife and I had great service fm Xana (sp?). The meal was a great selection of delicious appetizers (must try the dates), drinks (the house wine was a hit), one dessert (the chocolate cake is a must) and our main course (with delicious salads). Great view to top it all off, makes this location hard to pass up.

Not sure Walmart happened to this wonderful establishment. I remember it as being incredibly delicious and with great service. Now, the service is still great but the food is awful. EXTREMELY expensive. Smaller portions, less alcohol in your drinks and no more side dishes, unless you pay extra for each one. I got a $60 Ribeye that came out flat, dry and like warm. I remember the ribeye being thick juicy and delicious. Oh, and only $48 I think. $60 for a pork chop???? Really. What happened here??

I have been to the Waterfront in the past and I have always enjoyed the food and service. Today was completely different from those experiences. The front staff was short, rude, and unhelpful when we arrived. It wasn't listed on the website that a reservation was needed for the dining room and the front staff did not inform us of this either. When I asked one of them if we could eat in the dining room, she became rude and stated, "No. You need to make a reserving to eat in there." As if this was information I should have known. We shrugged off the rudeness and sat outside. We ordered the cheesecurds, gargonzola and pear salad, and a few Korbell Old Fashioneds. These were all quite delicious. I ordered the Shrimp and Scallops for $38. I had ordered this one of the previous times I had visited and I was looking forward to it again. What I received was beyond disappointing. I was given ONE small scallop and two moderately sized shrimp along with a very small portion of pasta. The pasta was described as having a lemon sauce but was spicy (not indicated on the menu). My previous experiences at The Waterfront all had apporpriate/expected portions and I never felt they were overpriced. This was an overall frustrating and disappointing experience. We are not likely to return.

We have traveled the country for several years and there are a handful of restaraunts that have the trifecta (food, atmosphere, and service). The waterfront has all three in spades. Beautiful decor and ambience. Impeccable food and Sophie, our waitress was an absolute delight.

I ordered an Old fashion that was well done with a local whiskey.
Steak was perfectly cooked with a delicious salty skin.
MacNCheese was unique and delicious. With bread crumbs on top, giving a unique crunch and salty flavor.
The pork chop was the standout. Incredible quality and flavor. Every bite was a delight.
For desert, my wife got the creme brulee which was as excellent as expected based on the other food.
I got the key lime pie. It had a unique take on the pie that was excellent and quite unforgettable.

Our waitress, Sophie, was incredible and friendly. She committed a chunk of time to ask about our adventures around the country and had such good insight on the food prepared.

We haven't been to Lacrosse in 10 years. We were very hungry and since the weather was disposing, we decided to choose a place with a terrace. It was one of the best experiences we've had in a while. The view is amazing the food is fabulous and the service is very good. We had Walleye pike on the first day. I'm not much of a fish eater but it was something fabulous. Then the next day just a burger with pear & gorgonzola salad. The price is not very high for such service and food.

We stopped in for dinner to celebrate a birthday. We had planned on the full "dinner" menu but stumbled upon the happy hour specials and "tavern" menus. We ended up with a couple happy hour drinks and 5-6 of the happy hour and tavern small plate options. Everything was delicious (cheese curds, beef skewers were incredible, pear salad, and crispy pasta thing) and the drinks were tasty.

Our server was Brittany and she was INCREDIBLE. If you could create the perfect waitress/server from a factory, you would design and create Brittany. She was just unreal.

Sorry Waterfront but our loooong relationship is over. I don’t know what happened (I’m guessing new management) but your massive price increase while at the same time shrinking the portions and not even filling cocktail glass to the top, has gone too far. Maybe you should have checked with the top steak restaurants in the country first to see what their prices are. Peter Lugers NYC (voted number 1 in the country) has less expensive steaks. We used to get bread and a salad with our meals, now both are an up charge. The portions are smaller too— your scallops went up to $42 and you get THREE. Three tiny scallops and some noodles. Olive Garden meal at Las Vegas prices. What happened?? You’re pricing a large demographic out of your restaurant.

UPDATE: The Scallop meal was now updated on the menu. It’s now, $38. Was this management doing the right thing? No. You’ll have to ask them yourself if you don’t believe me, but now the scallops have dropped down to 1. Simply a single scallop for the Day Boat Scallop meal. They added “a couple of shrimp” instead. If you want three scallops you have to order the appetizer and pay $9.33 per scallop. Wow!! The duck ravioli app may be better. You only pay $8.33 per ravioli. Michelin Star & New York City prices—- expect, no stars, and La Crosse is not NYC.

We went to Lacrosse for a daytrip and found that this placed had Raw Oysters. They were totally booked in the evening so we had to go early morning at 11am when they don't normally serve oysters..Thankfully(Augusta) accommodated us..

We went there for our 7th anniversary as we had seen other really good reviews about it as romantic, fine dining restaurant where other couples celebrated their anniversaries and it was absolutely perfect! We are from the Chicago area and this fine dining is better than the fine dining places in Chicagoland. The restaurant inside is very beautiful and overlooks the Mississippi River. My husband had the scallops with Linguini and I had the petite filet steak with grilled mushrooms and we both had the garlic Yukon mashed potatoes to share. The food and service were beyond extraordinary! I had the mango sorbet for dessert my husband had the blueberry cheesecake ice cream for dessert and it was so tasty!

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Waterfront Restaurant. I knew it was fancy but I had to find out for myself. I reserved a table in advance and had the opportunity to sit on the patio with my date. The view of the Mississippi and La Crescent Bridge was spectacular plus the atmosphere on the patio was buzzing. The menu is simple yet it has plenty of amazing options. There is also a drink menu with fancy cocktails that are made to perfection. We didn’t have to wait long for our food to be served and it was delicious! In addition, the restaurant is right next to Riverside Park giving you a beautiful place for an evening stroll after dinner. I definitely would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

We visited this place for dinner on a Friday night. It was a later reservation and the place had customers but wasn't busy.

The atmosphere is a relaxed but upscale clean format. They have great views of the river, although an ugly beach and club house now obscure the other shore.

The pricing is WAY OUT OF LINE for the food. All of it. It would be hard to recommend this place.

The French Onion soup was terrible. It lacked any semblance of a French onion soup, in fact, no wine was even used. It was a pale tan color and was over seasoned with herbs.

I had a chicken and potato meal. The chicken was prepared well. Moist and well seasoned. It came with a brown sauce that didn't make any sense. It was like the chef had the recipe in his/her repotoir, want to use it, but couldn't make meatloaf, and just added it to a chicken meal. Strange.

Again, of the things we tried it is not a personal recommendation. Pricing is not worth it.

The overall rating would be less but the staff were excellent. Giving it a two star because it is a restaurant. If the food isn't great the rest doesn't matter.

Today I visited this establishment with my family and was genuinely impressed. The prices are reasonable, and the food is absolutely delicious. I had the best cream soup from the chef that I’ve ever tasted in my life. I also ordered a pear and gorgonzola salad — it was outstanding.

My husband had the steak. The price was fair, and the quality exceeded expectations — tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The grilled vegetables served with it were also full of flavor. Compliments to the chef!

I’d also like to highlight the elegant interior. The place has two halls — we were seated in the tavern section, which I definitely recommend. The location is great, and the view from the window is a lovely surprise.

Overall, I’m very satisfied and will definitely return tomorrow to try the chef’s soup again.

First visit to La Crosse and was recommended to eat here. We did not have a reservation, but they offered us the more casual bar service but access to full menu. Prices are more expensive than most places, but service and food quality matters. We had the 8oz Filet and Scallops pasta. Steak was done Chef’s choice and plenty of pink if you so choose. My scallops were moist and in a pasta with a moderate lemon punch. Will bring my wife next time for a more dressed up romantic dinner. Definitely will stop here again in the summer on our return visit.

Enjoyed a business dinner here. Started out with appetizers for the table. Had cheese curds and bacon wrapped dates. Then had a Caesar salad which had tasty anchovies sprinkled on top. For my main, I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly.

Beer selection was very nice. Tried a Set List hazy IPA from Eagle Park and a Foggy Geezer from Warpigs. Both were very complimentary to the food.

There aren't words for how good the food is. I had the ribeye, which came with potatoes, veggies, and a side salad. Every bite had my mouth watering for more. Try the cheese curds , they are the best in Wisconsin. I can't believe I've lived here all these years and never went there before.

Let me start off by saying that we absolutely LOVE the Charmant and had a phenomenal experience there. Knowing the owner is the same for both places, we thought we would give the Waterfront a try. Everything, even our salads were salty..I'm not sure if it was the chef salting everything, but our whole table of 8 agreed. My husband is a salt lover and he couldn't even eat his meal.
I ordered the Fall squash and Burrasta Salad and the squash wasn't even cooked. Such a disappointment. The staff was more than patient with us and accomodating, but we were there to celebrate a birthday and it was a downer for the night. The oysters and devils on horseback were amazing! We will be back to the Charmant.

The Waterfront has been our go-to spot for high-end dining in La Crosse, and we’ve always considered it a favorite. The service and atmosphere are consistently excellent, and we’ve had many memorable meals here.

However, our recent visit for the Happy Hour menu special left us a bit disappointed. We’ve always loved the calamari, but the latest recipe change—adding cabbage to the calamari and cauliflower—didn’t sit well with my wife or me. The balance of flavors felt off, the calamari wasn’t as tender as we’re used to, and it seemed greasier than usual.

We hope this is just a one-time issue or a tweak that can be refined, as we still hold The Waterfront in high regard and look forward to visiting again. It’s still one of the best dining experiences in La Crosse, and we’re rooting for it to stay that way.

We ordered devil on horseback (was very good I would recommend this), crab cakes (were really bland) and salmon with pumpkin gnocchi (was nice and flakey cooked to temp, I personally didn’t like the pumpkin gnocchi others at our table enjoyed it) my husband and I shared the salmon and they split it into 2 dishes for us which was very nice. We also got 1 salad and 1 cup of beer cheese soup (would recommend the soup!) We were here quite a long time about 2.5 hrs and our waitress disappeared by the end of the meal when we were trying to get the bill. We spent over 100$ for two people the food and 1 beer. Was a little disappointed but we might be back in the future.

We came in on 10/08/2024 to celebrate my cousins official speech on running for the Mayor of the City of Lacrosse.. (party of 6)The server was very pleasant. The way she described the food was top tier. The service was great. Drinks and appetizers came out pretty fast.

Had a great time celebrating family milestone. 7 of us. Service was phenomenal. Appetizers and main
courses excellent. They Were very helpful dealing with one in party with gluten sensitivity. However the desserts were quite disappointing. BlackBerry trifle was lousy. Creme Brulee was not set properly and bland. The key lime tart had crust as thick as filling. Not nearly enough filling but flavor not bad. Desserts kept this from a 5/5.

Such a great experience at this restaurant! The servers are so fun, the martinis flow like the Mississippi, and the food is out of this world GREAT! Everything comes out fresh & hot! Get the swordfish &/or Scallops! While you're at it, throw 2 giant colossal shrimp on the order! Bon Appetit!
