All around solid food. The walleye fish fry is really excellent with the caveat that it's served with some of the most uninspired coleslaw.

This was our first time dining here. Highly recommended now I know why! Wait time was a little long but we were informed of the wait time ahead of us being seated. Our fish dinner was wonderful with nice portions. Best fish we’ve had in a very long time. Our server was great always checking on us and very attentive to our needs. Cooks kiss! We will definitely be back. Thank you, well done!!

Went about 2 months ago. Last time before that they had removed their FRENCH NASTY (very good by the way). Staff are prompt about taking orders. Atmosphere was pretty loud or quiet depending on the time of day that you go.

The beer was great and so was the Walleye dinner and cheese curds !!! Best walleye I've had yet and will be hard to beat! Prices are very fair and beer is not overpriced! My total was high due to how many beers I had myself.

This was a pleasant surprise. The diner across the street had a long wait and the cafe across the street only served pastry for food. My mother and I stopped here and ended up having a lovely brunch. The server was very friendly and helpful. The options were great and the food was good. I appreciated the option for a salad with breakfast. The self serve coffee was perfect for me. The prices felt like they were pre pandemic, very reasonable. I like the woody, cozy pub atmosphere, especially since there was still good sunlight in the front of the restaurant. They had the option of a spacious patio out back. It seemed like they were partnered with the Cabaret across the street, I saw many postings for upcoming performances on the walls. This seems like a great neighborhood spot.

This place was so lovely! We sat in a corner booth and it was such a cozy little nook. Decor is an absolute joy to behold, even if the food was bad I would still come here just for the vibes (but thank god, the food is VERY good.)

Tried calling to place an order for pick up. A guy working there answered the phone and said “no, we’re too busy with Friday night fish fry”. I don’t understand what the difference would’ve been of me dining in and ordering vs ordering over the phone and picking the food up? Strange. Don’t think I’ll ever give them a chance and don’t think you should either.

We had the pleasure of stopping here on a Saturday evening. It is very modest from the exterior, and the parking lot was small, but there was handicapped parking and extra parking on the street. The interior is lovely, with very tasteful lighting, wallpaper accents and simple seating. The tin ceiling was a treat and the other decor showed an appreciation for art deco with an eclectic vintage vibe. Well kept and clean, the wait staff was cheerful and busy, but attentive. Great background music had a nice jazzy feel, I found myself nodding to the beat as did the bartender. The menu contains some amusing wordplay, which was appreciated. We ordered “The Rooster” and split it between us. It was delicious and hit the spot, kind of an elevated BLT with egg. It came with a field green salad nicely dressed. The Summer Spritzer was very refreshing and light. They also offered a honey lavender lager, which sounded delicious but I was pleasantly full. Although we ate inside, there is also a fairly substantial patio area. This establishment is handicapped friendly with no stairs to navigate. Overall a wonderful dining experience with great service and a relaxing
ambiance. Highly recommend.

Food was definitely good as it was comfort food. Daughter and I had hamburgers, which are served with chips and a robust side salad. I upgraded my chips to onion rings for 2.50. You could upgrade to fries for 1.
Wife had mushroom spinach type melt which was good.
We sat outside in their enclosed porch area.
THE WORST PART WAS THE SERVICE!! only one waitress to sevice everyone. Slow slow slow
upon taking our order, she was good.
My rating should have been a 5 but you messed with the wrong reviewer. Sorry not sorry!

This is a small, laid-back busy place. We visited on a Friday night at 6:00 and only waited about 15 minutes for a table. Their draft beer selection isn't huge, but covers all the bases, so it was easy for everyone to find something they liked. Service was friendly and efficient. They have a pretty good selection of the classics - burgers, grilled cheese, Reubens, etc. - but I highly recommend the fried walleye. It was huge, and perfectly prepared. This was the best fish fry I've had in a long time. I'm definitely going back, maybe I'll see you there.

A hidden gem! We love going to this restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. Small little restaurant with patio seating (highly recommend when it’s nice out). The servings are a great size and the food is absolutely fantastic. We had the cheese curds as an appetizer and they were really good. We had two different burgers, Reuben, and mushroom melt with bacon. This place is dog friendly for those who are inclined to bring their four legged friends. Every time I’m in Madison, we usually make a stop here!

An old friend & I met here for lunch recently and it was fantastic! We had burgers, salad & chips. Everything was delicious with friendly, prompt service. Our tabs came to f20 each which is fine for lunch.
Last evening, another friend & I were going to dine at Bierock, but we witnessed the owner YELLING at a well-dressed patron who had been quietly there for perhaps 2 minutes. (She had just arrived & had not even placed an order!) Seeing that, cwe felt we would not business to that owner &nwent to the Tip Top to dine instead.
We were seated immediately by a friendly waiter who was so quick with our orders & anything we needed. We each had the walleye fish fry (choice if bajed or fried)with cole slaw & choice if baked potato or French fries. We both LOVED the HUGE walleye (about 12") which was lightly battered & fried to perfection. The cole slaw was German, like my grandmother made with vinegar instead of sour cream. Yum. My baked potato was great but my friend's sweet potato fries (she asked for these) were a bit greasy & not crispy.
I had an Old Fashioned & it was made to perfection!
We're so glad that we went to the Top Top instead - great food & no one yelling at patrons!

So we stumbled upon here based on the good reviews that I saw on Reddit. I’ve never been to Madison before and was passing through back to Chicago. We came here and were pleasantly surprised at how delicious the burgers were! I can honesty say this was one of the best burgers I have had. Big and juicy meat patty and big piece of cheese. Bun was nice and buttered.
If you’ve seen the movie The Menu, this is what I imagine the cheeseburger being like.
One of us got the veggie patty and also throughly enjoyed it.
————
Drinks 10/10 I got the apple cider and it tasted like juice. Liked the local selection of taps. Had spotted cow on tap.
Burger 11/10 would come here for this alone
Reuben sandwich 8/10 was good tasted cozy
Veggie patty burger 8/10 pretty delicious, needed some more sauce though
Cheese curds 10/10 only had cheese curds twice but these were nice plump and squishy
Fried pickles 5/10 average, little overdone
Sweet potato fries 3/10 were overdone for sure, probably get a side of cheese curds with my burger instead
Service 2/10 didn’t seem like we were welcomed or offered any help if we had questions. Gave them lots of thank yous and was left with blank stares. I’m not sure if it was the local customs but it was my first visit to this city and it was amis

Found this place on Yelp. Great old school tavern with great food. There’s a few tables. They worked to accommodate our family of eight. Of course we ordered cheese curds for starters. Main courses were many burgers, walleye fish fry, and my fav anywhere fried cod! Food was delish. Service was great! Ambiance perfect for our casual meal. Not too expensive. Everyone truly enjoyed our dinner. Perfect dinner to start our family staycation in Madison.

$ 76 dollars , for a shared burger , 2 margaritas and fried pickle appetizer plus 2 IPA’s. RIDICULOUS!!!
The pickles were the best part . The margaritas were served in a short false bottom cocktail glass with TONS of ice for 18 bucks !
The burger meat literally tasted like week old ground beef , and I wanted to spit out the first bite. I couldn’t stomach the rest . Oh plus they charge extra if you split the burger.
This place is a complete overpriced joke of a venue. I have NEVER spent this much for such a rip off in the Madison area ever ever !! If the food or drinks were quality , I’d have never written this review . But wow , they sure know how to overcharge for extremely below subpar food. I’m super upset. What a waste of my hard earned money and what I hoped would be a nice evening out. I’ll never recommend to anyone to visit this establishment. It’s horrific and truly reflects price gouging . Stay far far away .

We were in Madison a few days for hospital/clinic appointments and our dog was with us. Googled a dog park (2 stars ⭐⭐ for the $8 dog park visit, and that's being generous) and Tip Top was conveniently, right down the street. It was dog friendly (even offered water and little dishes!) and handicap accessible, both necessities for our family. Great burger, cooked to our liking and fresh, simple, tasty salad. Our server was friendly, honest and kind. When I ordered a chicken breast for the dog, she noted the chicken is marinated, possibly not dog friendly, so we got him burger instead. Very much appreciated!

This place is a hidden gem! It is so much more than a hole in the wall bar! We have been here for brunch twice now, both trips have been spectacular. You are acknowledged immediately walking in the door whether busy or not. You can find a seat and they are quick to get to your table. The spicy bloody marys are actually spicy and the beer chaser with PBR is a nice touch. We have had the carnitas verdes(great flavor and cooked well!), tip top burger(tasted fresh and was huge!), and I've had the Eggs Benedict with the bourbon glaze and without. I did not care for the sweetness the first time, but knew it was so good. They had no problem removing the glaze the second time I came in and let me tell you as a person who orders every Eggs Benedict I ever see, this is hands down the best Eggs Benedict I have ever had! The english muffin is toasted and sturdy, the ham is cooked and thin to slice easily, eggs are perfectly poached with runny yolks, and the hollandaise is the perfect homemade delicious awesome that you want. I come from a family that makes homemade hollandaise and this is IT. Lemon flavor but not overpowering and isn't that gross packaged stuff you get from most places. The service is fast and kind. They really do it right here! This is our brunch spot! We live on the other side of town but will always make the trip.

One of the best burgers in town with great options for Build Your Own. Pasture raised beef, so those who avoid factory farmed animal meat can eat the burgers. Also excellent walleye, mac & cheese, and other options. servers are wonderful - friendly and attentive. But what really brings the five stars home is the amazing patio. Every table has an umbrella. There’s trees and a wall to separate diners from the street. So, a relaxing, congenial atmosphere with excellent food.
My only caveat is to any other power wheelchair user. Toilets are roomy single use. Yay! But the door was too narrow for my big old power chair to get in. I don’t blame Tip Top for that, though. My chair is a behemoth, and for older an building, they have tried hard to be accessible.(I could navigate between outdoor tables and in the interior)

Overall a very solid dinner place. It’s a genuine 4/5 stars and that’s what I expected coming here. Everything was good but not earth shattering, service was good, and the facility is good. It’s cramped overall and loud so I wouldn’t recommend bringing kids here unless you can sit outside. If you want a good all around bar burger from a socially responsible restaurant, this is the place to go.

My fried fish was burnt and acrid tasting. I don't know how somebody thought it was appropriate to serve fish that overcooked. I didn't realize until I already had my food back at my house, otherwise I would have asked them to make me a new order.

The Tip Top Tavern is a quintessential Wisconsin pub. I had a burger, cheese curds, and onion rings along with a few beers.
The beer was cold. The food was hot. And the service was fast and friendly. I would visit again when I'm back in Madison.

Can see what the buzz is about.
Found the food, service, atmosphere, and cost all to be on point. Enjoyed the vibe, food was delish. Not from the area, but hope to visit again someday.
