Tropic truly exceeded our expectations! After picking up my cousin from the airport, the three of us (two from out of town, Georgia and Arizona!) weren’t quite ready to call it a night. It was after 11 p.m., and we decided to enjoy the warm night air and walk around downtown Milwaukee near Water Street to see what was open.

Honestly, we were a little hesitant to go anywhere because we assumed most spots would be filled with a much younger crowd. As 70s babies, we were worried we’d feel out of place. However, we found Tropic and decided to give it a try. We are glad we did!

The vibe was just right. The crowd felt like they were mostly 80s babies. Grown but still ready to have a good time and we felt totally comfortable. The food was delicious, the drinks were and tasty, and the hospitality was everything. DJ Ray Nitty had the place rocking, and the hype man brought the perfect energy. Even the security was super nice.

It ended up being the perfect late-night find. What started as a quick stroll turned into a full night of good food, good music, and even better vibes. If you’re looking for a spot downtown that feels welcoming, fun, and just the right mix of grown and lively? Tropic is it! Thank you for an amazing experience

Tropic Lounge has truly been a gem in my sobriety journey.

When I first made the decision to stop drinking, I was nervous about how I’d still be able to enjoy a night out. Tropic Lounge was one of the first places that offered nonalcoholic options that didn’t feel like an afterthought and the presentation was everything! It made me realize that sobriety doesn’t have to mean lack, and that I could still enjoy myself socially without pressure.

The staff here is always respectful and treats you like family. I even held my very first Sober event at Tropic Lounge because of how inclusive and welcoming the environment is.

Now, let’s talk about the food—the jerk wings are absolutely delicious, especially with that flavorful jerk sauce. I dip my fries and even my Jamaican beef patty in that sauce! 🔥

The owner, Hyacinth, is one of the most personable and down-to-earth people you’ll ever meet. She truly gets it—how important it is to feel accepted and supported.

I meant to leave this review a while ago, but I just seen an ad on Instagram for this restaurant and I’m like oh no y’all can’t fool anybody else. So I seen an ad a few months ago for them on Instagram and it was supposed to daytime Afrobeats party so me and my cousin paid $10 each two weeks ahead for an entry fee. So we get there and stand by the door tickets in hand but they just tell us to come walk in & this was the deadest restaurant downtown party was nowhere to be seen. so we just chucked it up as a L and decided to stay. Bar was full with a pregnant bartender. and the few tables they had were taken so we had absolutely nowhere to sit. I asked one of the girls who were working there about it and she told me that it’s first come first serve with seats. So long story short, it felt like a scam that looked absolutely nothing like what we seen on the ad. Seems like a way to get more customers. so we ended up leaving and going to City Social next door and it was sooooooo good. Definitely had way more of a party vibe great food and good music. I recommend y’all go there.

Idk what these reviews are because my experience was AMAZING!! I went to tropic a few times last year but when I went recently was the best. They got better tables and the decor is beautiful. Wayyy better than the past. Our server was great and we later found out she was the manger!! It just shows how much she cares. My mother who was visiting hasn’t stopped talking abt it since. This place is such a gem! Love that it’s black female-owned. The music and environment were lovely, perfect for single outings, friend outings, or a date night. We ordered tasty hookah, food, and drinks. The bartender/our waitress was very kind and helped us to find the perfect drinks. The slush drink with crown apple was delicious! The food was excellent as well. The lemon pepper chicken with ranch and the jerk chicken was very good! I recently came out with a few friends this past Saturday and I just wanted to share my experience. I think the lounge has some good potential it just needs a few tweaks. The atmosphere was pretty nice. It was dark but not too dark and felt really chill but the music that was playing wasn’t that great. A lot of old rap songs were played but I feel a mixture of old and new rap plus some old and new R&b would be a good idea. A little Milwaukee music would amp the place up too. The bar is in Milwaukee. Gotta represent for our city. The place was a lil packed when we arrived but shortly after it got empty but that’s because the people were not entertained enough. We were upstairs and ordered hookah which took 30 mins or more for us to even receive it. But that is because it really was just one server upstairs making hookah. By the way he was really nice and seemed to be doing the best he could. So after ordering hookah we ordered drinks but the order had to be physically taken down to the bar downstairs which was a lot on the server plus it just made the drinks take longer. Maybe a system where the orders could be placed upstairs and sent downstairs without the server having to leave would be a good idea until you all can get an actual bar upstairs as well. The drinks took a while to come and then the one drink I got which was a neon margarita was 18.50. Now I know prices are rising but I can buy a whole half pint of liquor for that price. And it didn’t seem like much liquor was in the drink. But it was tasty. Because of the hookah and the drinks taking so long it discouraged me from ordering food so I can’t give a review on that. But I really do think this place has some good potential to be as packed as the other bars it just needs a few improvements with service, operation, and just keeping the audience entertained. I’m not sure who the target audience is to this lounge but coming from a young black woman I can say that I got a little bored being in the place on a Saturday. You guys could have it packed if you just changed a few things. Good luck to you.

I went here for a date night inside of the place was very nice I had ordered the jerk chicken wings which looked very Burnt and the jerk pizza which was dry when I first sit down they came to take our order it literally took a hour to get my food I didn’t receive my drink until after my food came which I thought was weird since the bartender was standing behind the Counter when I got the drink it was so watery I didn’t even drink it The jerk chicken was very burnt and also tasted burnt they ended up taking it back the lady was so mean and had a attitude the whole time not only that she seen I had a chicken bone on the table and told me to pick it up I did it because I’m not rude but it just made it worst because she was already rude from the beginning I had the worst experience ever when I told somebody how rude they was they told me they had the same Experience I go out to eat a lot this place is the worst and they still charge u gratuity

My girls and I went there this past weekend and were pleasantly surprised. First off, the vibe in this place was unlike any place I ever been. The staff was fun, friendly and on point! The drinks were AMAZING! We had frozen drinks and some of their island drinks on the rocks. Everything was good! The DJ and the staff was having a good time with all the customers. It felt like one big family reunion. The Jerk Wings were perfect, not too spicy but full of flavor. The owner even came by and made sure we were having a good time. We definitely will be back, this is our new spot!

First very young unexperienced bartenders making drinks pour less than a shot of bottom shelf spirit for 9.89 also a glass of stella Rosa 9.89 weird pricing they don't tell you how .uch you owe pour bring and charge. Decor is tacky and bartenders are drinking with patrons not very professional but this us a night out in downtown Milwaukee.

Besides the small hiccup with our DJ, everything was top notch, Hyacinth was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was so accommodating and very responsive. I didn’t get food, however my family enjoyed it immensely, I kept seeing order after order coming up and it smelled delicious. If you have a party, this is the place to do it. My absolute favorite place to go.
Drinks are great. They definitely have the best hooka..and the food is AMAZING! Service is always on point. The owner always greets us, she's so nice. Best pizza I've ever had. The wings are amazing too. Nice chill atmosphere. This is definitely my go to place. Highly recommended!

This place is not a Reggae, Reggaeton, Soca place it is a current hip hop place. Went there hoping it played Reggae nope. Another trash hip hop bar. They must have told the city council it is not a hip hop bar to be able to open.

I visited Tropic on a Friday night. The vibes were unmatched, food was amazing and fresh, I had the walkerswood wings and Brown stew meatballs!! Highly recommended dishes. The Dj had the versatile playlist. I loved it and I will be back! Staff were all respectful and pleasant!!

Really cozy, spot with a relaxed vibe. The wait staff was VERY attentive and friendly. The drinks are delicious and the food is inspired by Jamaican cuisine. The menu consists of flaky Beef and veggie patties, tropic pizza ( mango habenero sauce, shredded jerk chicken and mozzarella cheese on a thin crust), Walkerswood Wing Platter (10 jerk wings )with fries and other tasty bites. The food was okay but the drinks are DELICIOUS! Try the Patron tower if you're a fan of tequila. Nice venue for a great night out with friends

My cousin was in town from Atlanta. We had a wing platter, a shot of crown apple with a crown apple slushie drink that was delicious and i cant recall what my cousin had but she enjoyed it as i enjoyed mine.

The music was good and just loud enough.

The wings were cooked well. Very good. Whole wings. The sauce isn’t the best jerk sauce. Fries were ok.

It was kind of full and we did sit for a while waiting on a server. I tried to order a drink at the bar and she said i had to wait for a server. We sat like 15 minutes after getting our water. Another 5 when she told me i had to wait.

First off this is not an authentic Jamaican restaurant/bar the food was horrible. The chicken was burned no seasoning, we got 1/2 of our order and had to wait 30 mins for the other 1/2 and the waitress we had had a bad attitude, she was a black skinny girl. Went for the first time last weekend. The food and drinks were really good and the customer service was amazing. Would highly recommend the jerk wings and the Marley Margarita. Not much of a crowd before 8:30 (from my experience on a Saturday) which is great for those that like to avoid big crowds. Even when the crowd picked up later in the night, the vibes were still pleasant.

My 2 cousins and I were meeting other family next door. When we got there it was packed so we decided to come to Tropic. Boy am I glad we did!!! The lave flow cocktail drink was amazing!!!! From the first sip I took of it I knew I would love any of the cocktails they serve!!! It’s sweet, cnt really taste the alcohol (which by the way is my kinda drink)! It taste just like a pina colata! It was amazing!! The music was amazing!!! The dj(s) were amazing!! I will definitely be going back there!!! The staff was great! Overall experience I’d give it a 10/10!!!! Highly recommend it to anyone 30 yrs or older that don’t want to deal with childish acts!!! I've been twice and I love it! Favorite drink is rum punch. Favorite food is jerk wings. Great service and i really enjoyed the reggae music - perfect mix of both modern and classic reggae. Lots of space, great decor. Just overall good vibes. Will defintely be back and plan to have upcoming celebrations here because of the VIP table area upstairs. 5 stars - definitely recommend!
