Awesome haunted house experience -- definitely one of our all-time favorites. We really liked the chair lift, Nicomas's neon maze, and the pumpkin and blackberry cider.

Very solid ski place, and I have been a season pass holder for many years. I love skiing here, the park is great and the hills make do for being the only ski place nearby the Madison area. I just really wish they were more open or had a system where you could show them a photo or they could look you up in the system for when you forgot your season pass instead of making you pay for a temporary one. Or maybe they could have you pay like a deposit and then give it back once you showed your pass. This was all just very unfortunate because I missed several hours of my day trying to figure this out after I realized I forgot my pass. Other than that I love the hill, and I know the owner can make some mistakes but I have to imagine its very stressful running a hill where the snow is so inconsistent.

We have gone to Tyrol for years mainly due to the lower costs and the slightly closer proximity to our home. We have had some good times at this location although every year we have experienced some form of rude staff, received smelly/ rundown boot and helmet rentals, dealt with dirty food areas (every time!), been bothered by the less than ideal maintenance of the runs, and also frowned upon the outdated facilities. We have experienced rude customer service and very little empathy shown towards our situation with a disabled son. No matter the outcome, kindness and genuine care should always come first at a business. Very disappointing.

It's a fun place to be at, especially if you could make the drive on a Tuesday where they have a $20 lift ticket special for all ages.

Given the size of the resort and runs that they offer, even the original price isn't crazy-expensive.

Pretty wide area for freestyles and terrain runs.

My only complaint is for the conditions on the rental and restroom area and smaller parking areas. Otherwise it's definitely a gem!

Saturday at the ❄️ snow park was amazing! Incredible staff here at Tyrol Basin, cannot say enough good things! Skiing was amazing and lots of fun, runs were well groomed and blacks were challenging. Overall great day!
Had a incident in the afternoon when I realized I'd lost my car keys somehow on the hill, went to lost and found, gave my number, and staff went to work! 45 minutes later and a few prayers, lo and behold keys were found! Just awesome! Thank you!

We had a great time skiing, but when we were done my son found her had two right boots. This was right after 5pm on Sunday, Feb 9, 2025. We looked all around and checked lost and found with no success. If your kids got home with two left boots, please let me know. They are black Kamik snow boots. Size 2 IIRC.

I visited Tyrol Basin last Thursday from 5 pm to 9 pm and had a fantastic time! It’s definitely a recommended spot for anyone looking to relieve stress and take a break from their regular day-to-day life. The atmosphere is great, and there's ample parking space, making it very convenient.

However, I’m giving it 4 stars for two reasons:

1. Lighting: The lower portion of the tubing area was quite dark. Proper lighting is crucial here, both for safety and to avoid any collisions, especially with people coming down from upstream. I had to make a quick move to avoid a sudden thrust from others.

2. Speed Reduction Holes: I noticed a few corrugated square holes meant to reduce speed, but I think these could use some improvement. People could get hurt if they hit them, especially on their backsides. It would be great to either improve the design or add strong warnings to help people avoid these sudden jerks.

Overall, Tyrol Basin is a great place to unwind, but these improvements would make the experience even better. I hope the team can address these points for a safer and more enjoyable visit.

This place is extremely unprofessional. The owner is rude and dismissive, and the staff’s behavior is inappropriate. I witnessed employees making disturbing comments toward young women, which made me question the ethics of this business. I will never return and strongly warn others to stay away if they value professionalism and safety.

PRIVATE LESSON AND GENERAL TAKEAWAYS

Things to know from my experience:
1. Throw out every fancy corporate resort experience you've had. This is your local runned facility, with the basic necessities for a good time. Don't expect fancy, new, or streamlined of anything - not a dig in any way, just pure comparison between resort vs local ski lodge.

2. No need to do rental forms electronically, the staff prefer their color coded printed sheets filled out there. Pink for ski, blue for snowboard. But complete your waivers online! Even better if you have it printed.

3. In addition to the standard rental equipment posted on their site, you can rent snowpants, gloves and goggles but it's all in a first come first serve basis and it did not appear that they had much of a stock. Alternatively just come prepared. We were from out of state and decided on a whim, so we were lucky enough that Dave was accommodating.

3. Rental shop is chaotic. Go to desk, get boots, put boots on, go back to desk get boards/skis. Again, nothing fancy, this is like the mom and pop shop version - not as streamlined as you see at a resort, but gets the job done. Do yourself a favor and watch a quick tutorial online on how to make sure you have the best fitting boot. No matter the chaos, remember to always be respectful and patient to the staff!!

4. No real "bunny hill". Their bunny hill is basically a greenpass.

5. Their instructors are amazing - nice, easy going and positive. Shoutout to Dave and his ski school crew: Caleb, Zachary, and our wonderfully patient and knowledgeable young instructors Kyle, Emerson, and Willa! We did a walk-in lesson (both ski and sb) and though everything was slightly chaotic all around, Dave was nice and very accommodating and got us all taken care of with no fuss. If you are trying to make same day lesson reservations online, you can't. Call them instead! Their system doesn't allow for sameday reservations for lessons only! And when you call, you might have to call a few times to get through, they are busy so be patient and persistent.

6. If this is your very first time ski/snowboard experience, don't go during peak times, it's just too chaotic everywhere. But if you do go, do your own research and prep, and then take a deep breathe. Get the lay of the land.

7. The black diamonds and terrain park are the most visible runs from the parking lot, so don't let that intimidate you as you make your way to the lodge.

8. HAVE FUN AND RELAX!!

2025, Back to normal, and the updates are very nice. Tubing is really fun. Saturday night was dead and we had the place to ourselves.

Not good (2021). I love this place, but the crowds are way too big and unmanageable. The staff have no means to enforce distancing or masks. Nothing indoors is being enforced. We'll try to find some less busy times because we still love skiing here, but unfortunately with everyone going to places like this as their only outlet during covid-19 this place is overrun. I'm not sure what the lift ticket limits are but it's busier than I've ever seen it. Very unfortunate when the majority of patrons follow the mask rules, but the ones who don't can ruin it for the rest.

The tubing is really great. A little concerned about smashing into someone at the end of the track and one needs to take precautions on the way down - you're going fast!

But, it was incredibly fun and we'll be back!

Warning, stay away from the mini corn dogs at concessions. "Rubber nuggets" would be a better name!

Staff members were very friendly. Really great place to take your family. Our 7 year old loved it.

Went tubing for the first time - the tubing itself was fun enough, but the staff was inept and terrible. Our group, which included three kids, got plowed into by another group coming down the hill that hadn’t waited long enough for us to clear. THREE staff stood there and watched as we all got hit by ANOTHER group of people who had jumped the gun. No help. No offer of support. No assistance. Just dumb stares. That sucked, but then literally five minutes later, at the top of the hill, a woman (not in our group) fell and broke her wrist. Her husband went right to her while two staff sat there like idiot zombies just gawking. No call for help. No checking in on an injured guest. It was lazy and inept, sure, but it also made all of us feel unsafe. We won’t be going back.

Decent enough for Midwest skiing, but the lifts are slow, and there aren't very many runs. Great for a single day visit but like many Midwest ski hills this gets old. The food is great! They have a tubing hill which the kids love but it's straight with no banked turn, so again, fun for a few hours but lacks creativity. The terrain park for boarders and freestylers is nice and changes periodically to keep things fresh, but that's not my scene, so I can't give much gouge on that.

Cool place. Unfortunately, the snowmaking coated the bottom of my skis with ice. Turned the ski bases into Velcro on the snow. Other skiers/boarders and I had to scrape off with credit cards at the top. People were falling getting off the lift. Little bit of mayhem.

This was a must stop and tradition every time we went to Madison/Verona to visit Gramma. Now it’s a tradition for my kids to enjoy as they were young to adults. Great times are always had on the ⛷️ and then the other side of the resort in the tubes. Adults get to sit and watch in the warmth with a nice drink. Great place to take the family and not too large to take away from the family old school vibe.

For my son who is leaning to ski/snowboard, this place is great! They have a long bunny hill with a great magic carpet for beginners.
I didn't get to explore the hill as I was in the bunny slippers with my first timers.

The food was reasonably priced and they had a fair but of options.

The parking was an absolute mess. We arrived at 1 pm and had to drive around a bit waiting for someone to leave. Note that there was a ski competition there that day, so I don't know how parking is other days. We ended up getting a spot by the tubing him making for a long walk to the base.

I just wanted to reach out to you to THANK Tyrol very much for the great experience we had on Sunday Feb 18.

1. A member of our party booked our ski lessons wrong and we arrived a day late expecting them. However, the staff accommodated our large group with lessons ANYWAY which was AMAZING and we are so grateful for this

2. The kids instructors (Finn I think and another young man) were incredible with the kids. Our kids learned so much and came away safe and confident skiiers. Plus the kids were jabbering away at how much they liked the lessons and the teachers. Finn and his colleague were fun, playful, safe and even customized the lessons to accommodate the different levels that our kids were at.

I cannot say thank you enough for this great day on the slopes. We will be back in 2 weeks for more since our kids now cannot get enough skiing.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!

I like the multiple runs, tow ropes, lifts as well conveyor belts. Snow machine are there but I couldn't tell they used them this weekend. Worst ski hill I’ve ever been to in the state of Wisconsin. Parking is a disaster. I saw two cars in the ditch and a school bus stuck. I’m not sure if the 16 year old workers are also the ones doing strategic business decisions, but it was a disaster… the chairlift broke with people on it. The bar/restaurant was slammed and they had one bartender. To get one beer and took 20 minutes. I highly recommend going to either Cascada or Devils head.

They have steep stuff! I had way more fun
than Devil's Head, ymmv. You can link 8-10 quality turns. Not flat snoozers. Jump in the well-managed lift line and you're skiing again pretty quickly. There are 6-8 little quirky things that make the day entertaining, such as: You can watch people wipeout, hotdog, or (rarely) demonstrate skill from the lift the whole way. Keeps boredom away. You can ski in the woods, no helmet mandate.

Only gripe was everything off Lift C (the fun stuff) had barely any snow, over gravel. Snowmaking was concentrated on the Faux-gul area (another plus: they have pretend moguls, where you can practice rapid turns without the consequences) and never rotated the entire day. Then ski team claimed lanes for both Slalom and GS, leaving a center chute few dared to dive down. Not gonna lie I wiped out most times in this configuration.

I was traumatized at Tyrol the other day and made a poem to cope with my trauma. I would also like to add the lift broke or something and people were jumping and swinging from the lifts like a bunch of orangutans. Anyways here is my poem.

You go to tyrol and you see the dope dealers and know the pope fears, terror at tyrol
smoke dances in the air like the tango, the smell of berry blast, and mango has me hungry
I slowly feel myself go
lightheaded
And realize Tyrol has been
hot boxed.
As the lift takes me up it feels as
if I just keep getting higher and
higher
I barely notice my ski poles slip
out of my hands
I begin to slump over on the lift
Their is nothing I can do
People begin falling off the lifts
from their buzz being to strong
People begin throwing up
It is chaos at Tyrol

There lift broke and my buddy who was having a panic attack hopped off hanging 5 ft off the ground and was taken/ grabbed in to the rental place and was forced to pay a 120$ fine and was threatened with jail time he was very nice about the situation but the manager was telling him he lawfully had to listen to her and threaten him to sit down or she would get police even though he was just standing talking to me Tyrol wanted to be rude about the whole situation and I watched them rip up multiple season passes of 14-17 years olds who also hopped off the lift and give them bans for 2 weeks I will never go to Tyrol again It’s not illegal to jump off the lift

Early season was probably a mistake. We had a couple of runs, but it was slushy as expected. Prices were reasonable and I hope they stay that way.

I love this place! However, don't take pictures or videos of the terror event. They didn't tell us this, and a woman literally came and screamed in my face! (Maybe and inch in between our faces) The event was great other than that very rude woman in pink. I did stop taking pictures. And other than the 2, I am posting, I won't ruin it for future enthusiasts. Snow tubing is excellent here and from what I hear skiing is topnotch!

Only went to the bar on this visit, but received friendly attentive service. Great atmosphere and fun watching the folks come down the hill.

Update 10/28/22: saw the band (Taylor and Von) up at the tubing pavilion. Great space, the sound was surprisingly good given the concrete floor and arched ceiling! Bar service needs work, they don't know what they have to drink.

Update 9/20/23: beautiful outdoor patio space - listened to a band. Tried the pizza - which was fantastic! I got the shrimp and sausage pizza and am looking forward to going back and trying a different pizza.

Really nice and fun ski area. Went on a weekday in early March, so the place was practically empty which I personally loved. The mountain height is comparatively smaller than other resorts, but with the abundance of trails, you get the chance to experience something different every time you go up the lifts. Park friendly with numerous ramps and jumps for people of varying skill levels to try out as well. Will be back next year for sure.

Terribly ran resort, chair lifts were missing boards, the slopes were all ice and very short on top of that and to top it of the employees where not very polite to the customers I strongly recommend u look to ski elsewhere.

I’m a little biased on this place. I like park and terrain and this place has plenty of it! So if you’re into freestyle I’d say check it out! Only downside is is that it’s small so a lot of the rails and features feel like they’re packed in there almost like too much in one area.

The hills are perfect for my kids who are learning to snowboard after taking lessons at Tyrol last winter.
Selection of food is pretty great for quick bites from downstairs or tasty tacos on Tuesday!

Came for tubing with a group and had a blast! Kids and adults alike were laughing and smiling the whole time we were there. Be careful at the bottom, as we did see a few people get run over, but it was their fault for not moving from the bottom, not the fault of the location.

Pros: 20 minutes from the west side of Madison, snow is always nice, runs have a lot of variety and challenge, trails are well laid out, park is awesome, lift lines are managed better than other ski resorts

Cons: Short runs, not really for true beginners,

I love Tyrol but the short runs can get little boring after half a day. Can’t spend a whole day there like Devil Head or Granite. Overall recommend if you’re itching to get a few hrs in, Friday they stay open till 11pm!
