Had two excellent meals here. Wonderful atmosphere (at the bar) and very cool open concept kitchen. Wings, salmon, and burger (local butcher meat) were all stellar. Zero complaints and was so good the first night that I went back the second out of two nights in town. All the staff were great, particularly Logan and Moriah (hope I spelled that right). Some of the BEST dining in Wausau. The new drink menu is absolutely fantastic, I tried the apple spice sazerac and the pumpkin spice expresso martini- wow. You get your money’s worth. The sea bass and fillet were perfect, service and atmosphere were top notch. We also tired the Brussel sprouts and ceasar salad, great portion and again- TOP NOTCH! Management is clearly supporting their staff and staff is preforming above the expectation. We will be back for more!

I had a very nice experience here. When the food was lacking, the management really stepped up to remediate the issue. That is why Van Acre is getting 5 stars from me.

The second time at Van Acre, I have to say it was very similar to our first experience. I'll first say that everything food and drink wise is amazing and delicious. There seems to be some disconnect between the different sections of the house. There's a manager, the hostess, waitresses, and cooks, but I'm not sure they are helping each other out. Sometimes things come through right away, other times you are waiting 20+ min for drinks, plates sit while 3 hostess/bussers are seemingly looking for something to do, the manager is looking at the line but not running anything or maybe expediting? Seems like if everyone helped each other out and all the pieces worked together, this place would be a fine-tuned machine. 2.5 hours from sitting down until closing our check for 5 people is mildly excessive. Like I said, everything is amazing here, but just missing a little magic fairy dust. The quality is there. We struggle with the supporting factors. We will be back for sure.

For food, we had the smoke plate, Kimchi, brisket queso, filet, Philly cheese steak pizza, rice and beans, street corn salad with steak, house chop salad with chicken and a bunch of drinks. All great.

My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary with our first visit to Van Acre—and we were absolutely blown away. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The food was exceptional, the staff (especially our waitress Carley) was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere was both elegant and inviting.

We began with a couple of drinks and the brussels sprouts appetizer, which were perfectly crisp and full of flavor. For our main courses, my husband enjoyed the Philly cheesesteak pizza, while I savored the ribeye—cooked to perfection. We ended the evening with the crème brûlée, which was rich, creamy, and simply unforgettable.

We both agreed: this was the best dining experience we've ever had. Van Acre has quickly become our favorite restaurant, and we can't wait to return!

Most of our food was not good. Salmon was undercooked, asparagus was burnt and no flavor, chicken in soup was dry! Potatoes had no flavor.
However the cheesecake was good! And the steak was really good. Our waiter spoke to us like children. The food came almost too fast! Let us breath a little. The drinks were too strong. Cost way too much for not good food! Will not be going again.

Food is good, atmosphere is OK for a hotel bar, but I just popped in at 4:45 and asked for a table for four, they told me 830 is the soonest they could seatbus. Take a look at the picture and make up your own mind about that. Don't waste your time trying to pop in for some food and a drink on the weekend here, because apparently you can't.

We came here for Valentine's 2023 and I just realized to my horror that I never left a review of the experience. I'll do my best to remember the details and leave one now. The atmosphere was incredible. Beautifully decorated, great lighting and very clean. Service was excellent. I had a small issue with my main and the manager immediately came over to the table and ordered me a whole new one on the house which I thought was going well above and beyond what I expected of them. The food was exceptional. Drinks were great and desert was very good. I had the salmon and it was so fresh and good. For such a busy night there was plenty of parking too. Overall it was a great experience. I want to go back and experience the outdoor dining in the future. Definitely recommend this place. You won't be disappointed.

We were here for an igloo experience for a friend’s birthday. Everything was so lovely! Roberts service was top notch, especially with explaining dishes/items on the menu. We got the smoke plate, cheese curds and a charcuterie board. There were so many things to choose from on them and it was all great. We did not have to wait long for our entrees, even if we did it wouldnt be a big deal because WOW! The tomahawk pork chop had excellent flavor and it literally melted in your mouth. Ive never had pork that tender. The ribeye was large and cooked to a perfect medium, all marbled and flavorful - no gristle. The sides were tasty and the cocktails were top notch. The desserts were delightful. We live far away, but Ill be looking forward to going back.

The entire experience was fantastic. I ordered the Lamb Bolognese and it was great. The only thing that kept it from being perfect was that the noodles were a touch above Al Dente and I had hoped there was a touch more lamb but it was perfect for the dish. The flavor was explosive. Personally I wanted a bit more pepper but that is just myself. It was perfect otherwise. The person I was accompanied with ordered the local burger and we shared per usual as we explore restaurants and the burger exploded with flavor. Best burger in town 1000% and the fries are to die for. Over all the only issue I had with the experience was the chair. I'm a fairly hefty fella and had a small issue sitting it it comfortably. Our server was rylie. She was absolutely wonderful. Happy to be there. Probably the best service you can find in the area. The staff is dressed well. Very uniform. It's near worth every penny you spend.

This place is mediocre. Second time I was here and I’m still not impressed. they sat my party of four at a very small table. Nothing could fit on it. The waitress was not really happy and didn’t pay attention to us. The harissa chicken didn’t have any harissa in it at all. They should do some studying before cooking. We asked for the lamb chops to be medium rare and they came out basically raw with a little char on the outside. It’s a good thing we like eating rare food, but seriously, medium rare doesn’t mean you can serve us raw cold food. The steak sandwich has 1 pound of arugula on it. What’s the point in that? Just because people dress well and the place looks nice, does not mean it’s good food. Save your money and go to a nice restaurant. These people are playing pretend.

However, it is on the pricier side, especially for Wausau. Came for our Anniversary and the front of the house called ahead to see if they could do anything special for the occasion. Also had a card waiting for us at the table. Our server, Jacob was attentive and had good recommendations. We started with the bread service, and drinks - the wife really liked the watermelon spicy margarita. My hazy IPA was just OK - needed citrus IMO. As entrees, we had the salmon and filet. The steak was great and juicy, perfectly cooked, as were the potatoes w/ onions that came with it. Salmon was also flavorful and unique, but the ‘slaw’ on top was a bit wilted and forgettable. Dessert menu is small, but the torte was good, not too sweet and had a nice raspberry compote. Overall very nice and memorable experience.

My recent dining experience at Van Acre was nothing short of exceptional, and it was made even more memorable by our wonderful waiter, Jacob. He greeted us with a smile and provided impeccable service throughout the night.

Our meal began with a delightful appetizer of cheese curds, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and wonderfully gooey on the inside. We also had the lamb chops, the tomahawk pork chop, the farm pizza, and the Caesar salad with shrimp. Everything was great.

10/10 experience! We ate here the other night during some bad weather. Our food had just come out, but before setting it on our table, we had to be ushered to the back due to a tornado touchdown 20 minutes away. Totally understandable, there wasn't anything that could be done. A few minutes later though, our server brought our food to the back room while we waited out the storm! It started off with the unexpected touch of the phone call in the morning to confirm the reservation and the extra level of customer service to anticipate our needs for the evening. Upon arrival we were more than impressed with the beautiful, interior/atmosphere and wonderful table near the fireplace we were seated at. I’m a very picky eater who grew up with a single parent that really didn’t understand how to not overcook food. It was after branching out on my own as an adult, reading Bon Appetite magazine and watching cooking shows that I learned how to cook “out of the box”. My entire life I have been a very picky eater. I only mention all of this because it’s where I grew as a home cook who cooks like they want to eat. I have had several fine dining experiences where the food was very good. With saying that, I have to admit that my dining experience at Van Acres was above and beyond any previous experiences. The service was second to none! The food was phenomenal! My husband ordered the sea bass and not only was he pleased but, both of us noticed how exceptional the sear was on his bass! I ordered the Harissa Chicken and was very pleased with the dish. I must admit that this was the first time ever that an executive chef asked me/us about our food. Arkielle came to our table to ask about our first few bites. Chef Arkielle not only personally visited many tables, I witnessed her jumping into the open kitchen to help her staff when they got busy and maintained her positive, encouraging spirit. I can’t leave a review without mentioning how phenomenal her brown butter rice with charred radicchio was! Yes , I did tell her so! I will definitely return to Van Acre at least as long as they have Arkielle creating their menu with her recipes. I have lived in Wisconsin for 22 years and had many fine dining experiences over that time throughout the entire state and I can honestly say that my dining experience and food at Van Acre has been the best by far.

My wife and I recently dined here for our first wedding anniversary. In addition to the food being fantastic (we had the Bacon Wrapped Dates, Tomahawk Pork Chop, and Harissa Chicken), both the hostess and our server knew the reason for our special dinner and made sure to wish us well and acknowledge the special occasion! There was also a congratulatory card from the staff on our table when we arrived. The staff really helped to elevate our experience and make it over the top special. Highly recommend!

Restaurants in hotels can be a hit or miss and Van Acre hit the mark. The food was phenomenal, from breakfast to dinner. I’ve had the breakfast buffet twice and they had ample of selection and protein selection were not greasy at all. Phil was very down to earth and accommodating - kudos to him! There was another gentleman who served me (can’t recall the name) and he, too, was very attentive.

On to dinner service. Portions were very generous but I can’t say enough on how spectacular the food tasted. Get the smoke plate - the pork belly alone was to die for.

This is by far one of the best restaurants in a hotel I’ve ever been with respect to quality of food and phenomenal service by all staff.

Ordered the filet which was okay, but rather dry (ordered it rare). I've had better at Texas Roadhouse! The vegetables were undercooked and the cheesecake was overdone and crumbly. I've been to Van Acre twice now. The first time, my friends and I all had a wonderful time with AMAZING food. I couldn't wait to come back. Finally got back here last night for NYE. My husband got the Waygu and it was soooo good. My dad got the Surf & Turf which also looked absolutely amazing. I got a seafood carbonara. Unfortunately the shrimp was very overcooked to the point where it felt like chewing rubber. The staff was very accommodating and made me a new dish to go. Stuff happens and I'm not too worried about it. I also can't wait to go back and try a new dish! Happy New Year!

Went to the igloos for my birthday and they gave me a hand written birthday card, a very very nice touch. And had Michael as our server for the igloo experience and he was top notch. He jived with our family very well. He was very knowledgeable on the menu and knew 99% of our questions off the top of his head. Food was so good, between the group, we had pizza, ribeye, salads, salmon, Brussel sprouts, and the smoke plate. All phenomenal.

Before our reservations in the igloo, we had Logan and Erika at the bar and they were awesome as well.

Having lived in New York City for 8 years, I'm grateful to have places like Van Acre here in Wausau. It's a great place to have an après ski cocktail, host an event, celebrate an occasion, or just treat yourself. The vibe/decor never misses, and the food is delicious. I like watching the hard-working staff fire it up in the open kitchen as well. Thanks for all the hard work you do!

I stayed at the hotel and went down for dinner at 4:30 on a Saturday night. There was one table that was occupied. I asked for a table for one, and was told I could not sit at an actual table until about 8 o’clock, despite there being dozens of open tables. I assume because there were reservations, but not a single table was taken at the time. So I had to sit at the bar, which isn’t my favorite, because I am sober.

The food itself was fantastic, as was the service from the bartender. I got the loaded baked potato pizza and the cookies and milk flight.

When I was done eating, there were maybe three additional tables that had been sat. To not be able to accommodate one person in an empty restaurant is very bizarre to me.

I have been gluten free for almost a year due to a very sensitive celiac diagnosis. I’m the matron of honor for a wedding coming up and we had the bachelorette dinner at van acre last evening. I haven’t been out to eat for the better part of a year because of sheer anxiety about consuming something with gluten or cross contamination. The staff at van acre was incredibly knowledgeable, gave us our own private room do to the severity of the allergy and were the most accommodating I’ve seen. I chose the margarita pizza (gluten free) and asked a ton of questions which, they answered with ease. The gf pizza is made in a dedicated area away from the main foods! When I was taking a few bites I stopped because of anxiety, and the waitress (who has celiac herself) came in and promised/heavily reassured me I was perfectly safe eating it because she knows how much care and safety the cooking team takes with allergies. 10/10 recommended! Satisfied more than I can explain.

Appetizers and entrees are phenomenal. The Tomahawk pork chop was cooked perfectly, and came with perfectly grilled asparagus and amazing - I mean amazing,- spoon bread. I was skeptical about the braised short rib ragu, but it was so satisfying!!

Desserts need a bit of improvement. The chocolate cake was over powered by the almond drizzle around it. The chai creme brulee was too "thick", a bit too sweet, and had more hints of holiday spice than chai.

Overall the drinks were good. The wait staff could use some training on wine pairings (our very capable server suggested a sweet white wine to drink with the braised short rib ragu - yikes.).

Drink-wise, Van Acre does not make a good margarita, and it was way overpriced so don't bother. They charged us $30 for a margarita - yes $30 - and it was quite undrinkable, very sour. I've had better margaritas at 2510, and even those aren't great. I'm not sure what Van Acre is thinking. Who the heck charges $30 for margaritas?!?!

I came here on a Friday night with my boyfriend and it was very busy. The service was great even though we had to wait a little bit and the food was amazing. We came back again Saturday because we enjoyed it so much. We ordered a bottle of champagne that was out and the manager upgraded us to a nicer bottle! We had an appetizer and dinner, which we ate every bite. When the check arrived, the bottle wasn't on the check as a courtesy! We found out the upgrade was a bottle of top notch champagne on the house for the original bottle being out and "slow" service the night before!! The food and service was absolutely outstanding. Ok. This hotel is the draw in Wausau. Why? The restaurant. The staff are on top of everything and very personable and attentive. If you are only here once - get the tomahawk pork chop. It is phenomenal. But in addition, the mushroom/corn “cake” that comes with it is out of this world. I hunt/harvest wild mushrooms - I am a fan. Their take on it is like nothing I’ve tasted before. Van Acre is a fantastic restaurant with an excellent bar, and Cody is one of the best bartenders you'll find anywhere. I recently visited and had the pleasure of trying several of his cocktails, including The Last Word, French 75, and the Aviation, and each one was an absolute delight. Cody's attention to detail and skillful mixing techniques are truly impressive, and it's clear that he takes great pride in his craft.
In addition to the exceptional drinks, the atmosphere at Van Acre is warm and inviting, with a cozy yet stylish decor that sets the perfect mood for a night out. The menu is also superb, with a great selection of dishes. I greatly enjoyed the Filet myself.

We’ve been here twice, once for a date night and once for Valentine’s dinner, and have decided it is THE place to go in Wausau for a quality experience. The servers are very attentive and friendly, even on an obviously busy night. The food is exceptional — the best food in the Wausau area. The whole experience is enjoyable. The timing of courses are perfect; we have not felt rushed nor neglected. If you want a fine dining experience, go to Van Acre.
