My wife, friend, and I went here around a year ago for the giant pretzel they serve here, the sliced prime rib sandwich, and the slow roasted prime rib. We don't get out to Stoughton often, so we wanted to go again for the same great food. My wife and I returned most recently and were disappointed that the slow roasted prime rib is no longer offered on Saturdays, just during specific occasions. We were also the only people to comment that the au jus was bland for the evening. The sandwich itself wasn't bad with the extras they offer on it, but the au jus could have been better. I'm glad everyone else enjoyed it. We specifically asked for two cups of au jus because of how good it was the previous time and we both had the same opinion - bland. I did not have any alcohol this time, so perhaps that was why I/we thought the au jus was bland. The prickly pear drinks here are quite good, as is the pretzel. While the food here isn't bad, our expectations from our only other prior experience were not met in multiple ways. We do recommend the pretzel, sweet potato fries, and drinks, but it's unlikely that we will return here.

Typically, I refrain from posting reviews on Google, but this warrants it. The service here is terrible, and it is a shame because they have great food and beer. The last 2 times we've been here the waiter/waitress were rude, and we were ignored for large amounts of time. The last time we walked out after being seated and waiting 30 minutes to get our drinks ordered. If you take a look at the negative reviews, it is almost ALWAYS the service. You need to take some time to develop a proper service routine and train your staff.

Maybe i just ordered the wrong dish here but the friday fish fry was pretty bad. Breading was greasy and soggy and the fish inside was was rubbery and runny.
The beer menu with the QR code on the table did not pull up the tap list, and after some hassle finally got a paper one. Server seemed like she hated her job. Old fashioned's were pricy for a small town.

We just left here. We usually enjoy coming here; however, our server was less than welcoming. She didn’t say hello and didn’t say she would be right with us. We can manage that, however, she looked at us and instead went to three other tables that came in after us. She finally came over, but we decided to leave. Food has been excellent in the past, but tonight’s service was not.

On a short road trip we stopped in at the Viking. Seated at the bar we got fast friendly service. After a bit of tasting we got a couple of their beers, very good. I had the black IPA called Soot In My Eye. We also ordered the prime rib sandwich to split. It arrived in ten minutes or so. It was excellent, clearly cooked with care. The fries were really good too. The Viking Brew Pub is definitely worth a visit.

This is the third year I have attended the Sogo Film Festival in Stoughton, with one of my films. I have always wanted to try the Viking Brew Pub. Last year, I tried carry-out and the hamburger and sweetpotato.fries were first-rate. Tonight I dined in the restaurant. Service was excellent. The beyond burger was fantastic. Too many fries - So I took some home. The molten lava cake was the single best dessert i.have ever had. I am considered "old" so i.have had a few in my time. Thank you so.much for a fantastic dining experience.

Met a friend here for Friday fish. I was honestly shocked at how small his fish filets were for the price! He got the grilled cod and they were maybe 2 bites each. He said they were good along with the salad, but definitely not worth it. I got the nordic wrap, portion size was good, chicken was okay (kinda tough), bbq and ranch combo was delish, fries were perfectly crispy but could've used extra seasoning/salt. Waitress was new, but she was doing her best and we appreciated it! It was was pretty busy when we got there. It was pretty loud in there with everyone trying to talk over each other. I would recommend the wrap, but I wouldn't recommend the grilled cod as the portions arent big enough to fill the normal person. The people around us who had the fried fish/sandwiches seemed to have decent sized pieces. I think id come back and try something else though.

First time stopping in. We got there a little after noon. Drinks and appetizers were prompt but then came the long wait. Our group watched in hunger as other tables after us were seated, dined, and left while we waited. Nothing was special order, our server only explained they had staff call in as she rolled her eyes at as. Around 2PM we got ready to leave as we had an appointment and had to take our meals to go. The owner was nice and did apologize and give us 10 percent off, but we still had to eat in transit and be late for where we needed to go.
The Viking Brew Pub certainly put the dark ages in their service and hospitality. Nothing makes you feel like a peasant than watching other dine like kings as you wait for anyone to scoop some taters and meatballs on a plate to serve.
Suggestions???? Maybe don't let a table wait the duration of a Ryan Rynolds movie to get the menu items. Or don't roll your eyes at the table the one time you check on them?
Making a couple of diabetics wait for food and beverage is a great way to make it in the paper!!!!

Stopped at the viking for the first time. What a cool place! What other place has a viking ship, complete with a smoke breathing dragon, for a bar?! They have a Norwegian them with several Norwegian items on their dinner menu, their food is really good. They had 12 of their beers on tap for stop including a scotch ale, amber, session IPA, IPA, imperial IPA, Porter, Belgian Dubble, Belgian tripel, lager, cream, mild dark, and a wheat. All their beer were good. The Viking's service really stood out. Our bar tender didn't know everything about the beer but the staff was super friendly. We will definitely go back.

One of the greatest gems of the Madison area. Amazing food, tons of exciting flavors, and the beer is among the best I've had anywhere. It's a place I always have to get at least one more beer than I had planned for. Also features a replica Viking ship as the bar and the bartender will let you pull the lever thing for it to release some fog from the front of the ship - if this were downtown, I'd be here all the time.

Went to dinner on a Saturday night, the place wasn’t horribly busy. We ordered everything all at once to speed up the dining process (have had slow service before). We got our appetizer relatively quick, but it took 45-50 minutes to get our food. I had ordered the jumbo pretzel and it was extremely disappointing when I took a bite and all I got was raw dough. The inside of the pretzel was practically raw, and would have sent it back if I had time. Very disappointing.

This was our first time coming here, the environment was nice and our waitress was great. Deafeningly loud. I could have gone shopping, gone home and cooked, eaten, and returned to the restaurant in the time it took for my order to come. No explanation until 30 seconds before the food arrived and then just “we’re incredibly slow tonight”. Probably the slowest service I’ve ever experienced. Just under an hour to get a burger. Such a fun place in a charming town!
We came on a busy trivia night with kids, and the staff was very friendly and kind. Our server even turned the Longship smoke on for our kids! Our food was delicious American fare with a Scandinavian touch and served fast! We loved the Lingon sauce that came with the Lighting Bolts!

I've returned here four times in the last few months, so you know I love it! 🍻 The food is great, the staff are great, the atmosphere and look and feel of the place is great. The warmth of the wood furnishings is cozy and the carved longboat bar is gorgeous (if you ask nice the bartender will turn on the dragon so that he breathes smoke!)

I love the curds and the fried green beans (Thor's Lightning Bolts 😅), my favorite entree is the pork ribs! So tender and flavorful, amazing. Good beers too.

The venue and food were decent, but the service was terrible. In fairness, we were there on a very busy day, Sytennde Mai. However, this festival isn’t new and VBP has been established here long enough to know how to plan for this busy time. Wait time was reasonable to get a table at 30 minutes. We ordered 2 beers and 2 sodas. One of the beers was never delivered and we waited another 20 minutes to get it. Clearly it was forgotten or poorly communicated, but the server apologized. After this, we waited another hour for our food to arrive. Clearly the kitchen or the server forgot our order AGAIN. This was the server’s 2nd sorry. As mentioned, the food was good. After eating the server brought the bill and seemed quick to have us pay. The bill was incorrect and an extra drink was added. After having the bill corrected, the server started clearing/cleaning the table similar to when people had left, yet we were still sitting down. Apparently, they were eager to upset new people. There was no drink comp or good business customer satisfaction ethics to make things right. Hopefully VBP will be better organized next time.

This place is a 10 star for me! We sat at the bar and had some beer before a show at the opera house. The guy working behind the bar (on 4/19) was the BEST bartender I’ve ever had!! No exaggeration, he was so welcoming! The food all looked delicious although we only got the HUGE pretzel. YUM! There was a fun puzzle to (try) to solve at the bar which was really fun and a good way to meet your neighbor next to you. The dragon blows smoke so make sure you ask to see it. We drove from Madison and it was totally worth it! We’ll definitely be back and I’ll be recommending it.

Went here for the first time last in the beautiful town of Stoughton what an amazing downtown vibe stopped at a few stores and went here to eat..when we walked in it was very inviting very warm setting with all the beautiful woodwork and the amazing looking bar where Hilda sleeps...we started off with some of the house brewed beer....so good we took some home...and tried the Hilda burger and the Norwegian meatballs...food was on point....we drove an hour for this place and we would do it again just for the meatballs everything else was amazing...but them meatballs are on a thing all its own ....Ashley our server was also wonderful and took wonderful care of us

Stopped in before a show at the opera house around 620 and we learned if you are going to do that you need to get in a little earlier and be prepared to order quickly.

We got our appetizer of a pretzel quickly and it was gigantic and tasty. And then, once we got our food it was pretty good too. I had the hilda burger which was spicy but not overwhelming. The potato keggers were so good, I wasn't sure what to expect but you're getting everything inside the tot, which is my preference, and I highly recommend them.

I enjoyed the forest cat and soot in my eye which were both great fall beers. The imperial raspberry sour hit the mark and was an unexpected treat. The girls didn't care for the peach IPA which I thought was fine but might have missed the mark on its demographic.

I thought the Viking bar was really cool too.

Lastly, if you saw the other review about the place being dog friendly I just want to clarify that it is for the outdoor seating area.

Went to Viking Brew Pub for dinner tonight (Wednesday nite) ahead of a mtg at the Chorus House down the street. Thought we had allowed plenty of time as our mtg was at 7:00 and we walked in the door at 5:30. At 6:45, we still didn't have our dinners. Ended up wolfing some of our dinner and requesting a box for the remainders. This is the second time we've had to wait an inordinate amount of time to get our meals....the last time we had to again wolf our dinners so as not to be late for a performance at the Opera House. No apologies from our waitstaff even tho we realized the delay was not her fault. Portobella sandwich was about 1/2 the size from previous visit. Very disappointed and will not likely visit this place again for a long time.

It's very popular...busy. When you enter they let you know there will be 1/2hr wait. You decide it must be worth it so you sit at the bar and get a beer. Then they call you for a table and you think the wait is over. You finish your beer and they get you another. All the while you don't see any food being brought out to all the customers who are sipping beers. It should never take this long to get the special (pulled pork sandwich) and a hamburger. 40min after ordering the sandwiches finally came. The food wasn't bad, probably 1lb burger, but it was seriously messy. The buns could not hold up to the size of the meat.

Excellent food! Decided to go out late, around 7 pm on Tuesday. Wearing t-shirt and jeans from a long day, and wanted something quick and tasty and had both with beer and BBQ pulled pork sandwich. The giant and delicious pretzel was great, too! There were 4 of us and still had some pretzel to take home.

Service was terrible. Our server was rude. After 45 minutes after we ordered and asked for the status of our food, she told us that the ticket was not even hung in the kitchen. Her excuse was that it took her an hour to get her food at Culver’s the other night??? Canceled our food order and left. Server was completely unapologetic.

Stopped in for some beers and food last Friday while camping in the area. Nice beer selection 🍻💫 We did the green bean appetizer w the dipper n OMG! The hubby did the fish fry and was very good. I did the spicy Chipotle chicken wrap, was just ok...little disappointed but that's me. Cute downtown area n everyone was so friendly. Biba🍻🍁🍂

Kind of a long wait and slower service. But the bartender was very friendly and the food, drinks, and beer were delicious!!! I highly recommend the Mahi Mahi Ruben!

I think my only bit of constructive criticism would be to train the waitresses to sell the beers. We were never told flights were available, and when we asked questions we were told "I don't know". Our waitress seemed friendly but was hard to wave down when we wanted drinks (so we went directly to the bar). My group also noticed a bit of a difference in how much attention we got vs how much attention regulars/locals got.

Fun place to grab great brews and a bite. The viking theme iz fun, and the bar looks like a Viking ship! The dragon head even blows smoke, very cool. Had a lot of fun on a gal pal date, and glad to have found this gem!
Ashley, our server, was super friendly and great with suggesting beers I might enjoy. I am so glad I got a flight! A few selections for about the price of a beer. Amazing value!!
There pulled pork was amazing, and I am looking forward to trying their ribs next time (along with at least 1 flight!). Can't wait to go back!

First time here with my friend and our kiddos! Everything was sooo good!! I had the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries and she had the pulled pork garlic wrap with sweet potato fries. We shared the spinach artichoke dip. Definitely will be back! Yum yum!

My experience at Viking Brew Pub was one I will remember my entire life. I traveled with my partner from Minnesota for a visit to House on the Rock this summer and we stayed overnight in Stoughton, Wisconsin. We were a bit frustrated with every other place we had tried searching for or traveling to for dinner, as they were either not seating, didn't have enough staff, or were closed. We came across the Viking Brew Pub which completely sold us after we saw some of the pictures of the bar and food. We ordered so many drinks, appetizers, entrees, and even dessert. When the final bill came it was under $80. I was blown away not only by the price and quality of the food but also the friendliness and service from the wait staff. The bartender put the Minnesota United soccer game on the TV for us and even let my partner work the controls to make the head of the ship to the bar blow smoke! The entire experience was so simple, welcoming, and fun. It was one of the best nights of our lives. I highly recommend the Viking Brew Pub to anyone making their way across Wisconsin; it's sure to be a restaurant/bar to remember.

Seriously impressed with their brews. Not just run of the mill brew pub beers that are meant to keep you drinking while eating dinner. They've put some serious thought and effort into the quality. Flavors have depth and nuance. Viking burger was awesome too, but get it with one patty instead of two because you'll get more out of the rest of the burger.

How do you say 'yum' in Norwegian? If I knew, I'd lead my review with it! Delicious food all around. My whole family ate at the Viking Brew Pub for lunch today, and everyone was beyond pleased. I had the Nordic meatballs (with mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce) and the Brewberry beer. My wife had the house salad and a Nordic ale to drink. One of the kids had the chicken tenders, and we split an order of cheese curds. They were very busy, but the service was still good, and the prices were quite reasonable. Our first visit to Stoughton, and this restaurant was highly recommended by a local business owner. Now I see why!

Very good food with some interesting twists at this brewery pub. The beer cheese and chili are both very good and unique to this pub. We were seated quickly and our server was attentive and pleasant. Street parking is scarce on a busy night, but if the weather is nice its not a problem to walk a block or so. A definite stop if you are a brew pub enthusiast.
