Love this restaurant - cozy atmosphere and delicious, fresh pasta and sauces. The lasagna is definitely worth the wait (around half an hour). If you manage to save some room, I highly recommend the bread pudding.

Great lasagna and great specials. We always take grandparents here because they can get their standard meals while everyone else can try something new to the menu or a special. The bread pudding and tiramisu are far and away the best desserts in Madison. Just come hungry because each dessert is portioned for multiple people.

Needlessly expensive & small restaurant. You're basically sitting at your neighbors table. It's Italian food.....pasta is one of the cheapest foods there is, normally. Service is good but comes at a steep price

Italian restaurant with a New Orleans Flair. Party of Three for an early business dinner. I was quite surprised to find jambalaya and etouffee on the menu. The jambalaya came out perfectly cooked. The chef was able to perfectly prepare the shrimp to where they were neither overdone nor underdone. The flavors marinated and work very well together. The andouille was really good. However, it was not overly spicy as some restaurants attempt to make it. Great dish with great flavors. Nice quiet little restaurant with a homie family kind of feel to it. Staff was very polite and attentive. Salad was extremely fresh and delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed the balsamic and oil dressing that I had for my salad. Looking forward to returning and trying their etouffee.

An awesome, old school, simple, and cozy little Italian restaurant.
Located in downtown Middleton Vin Santo might be the best place for Italian food in the Madison area. Staff is very attentive, friendly, and personable. Vin Santo ravioli was superb. My girlfriend went with the Campenelli with goat cheese, and tomato basil sauce. She said it was very tastey and fresh. For dessert try the bread pudding a staple they are known for.
If you are looking for great Italian food stop in and check out Vin Santo. You will leave very full and satisfied.

They were nice - wine was amazing and their seafood ravioli was delicious- could have used a tad more sauce. Eggplant parmesan delicious but didn't come w/pasta. Wait staff were terrific - attentive and knowledgeable. Cannoli - yum! We will be going back.

When we got there there was only two other tables the waitress was very good we were told the specials but not the prices. All in all it was an okay but it wasn't worth $100 we had the special that was the lasagna, that was 18 and the seafood ravioli which was about 30 no salads came with the meal the lasagna was burned the raviolis were cool not hot and tasted very fishy. We ordered the bruschetta which was so hard we couldn't chew it and in the end we would not go back again for spending $100 that was with two drinks and a appetizer and two entrees. Also my visa gift card I was told did not work. Went to another establishment and it worked fine.

We enjoyed an excellent wife's birthday celebration centered on the special ravioii and special lasagna for the evening, following calamari and mixed-green salad starters, and concluding with the tiramisu and near-famous Vin Santo bread pudding for dessert. As always, the food was well prepared, the service was prompt and cordial, and the atmosphere was very comfortable.

I have been going to Vin Santo for years and I consider it to be the Madison area premiere Italian restaurant. Sure it may not measure up on classic Italian decore to some of its local Italian rivals, but the food itself is what has kept me coming back for years. If you think you know a better Italian restaurant in Madison area, I challenge you to order any special from Vin Santo and keep that opinion.

Quiet little nook in Middleton with cozy atmosphere and very friendly front of the house. Has the feel of a family-run neighborhood establishment.
The two of us split both the appetizer of the day, a delicious smoked salmon crostini, light in texture but rich in flavor, and a seasonal butternut squash ravioli, which was nicely balanced with savory seasoning and not overpowering. We took some home to save room for what was honestly one of the best cannoli we've ever had. I think we'll be back before long!

Enjoyed our anniversary dining at this cozy restaurant. With all the Italian restaurants in the Madison area, Vin Santo really is a wonderful spot.
We've each have had the opportunity to dine here and we haven't been disappointed one bit. Service was attentive but not swarming. We shared a salad prior to our meal and each enjoyed a glass of wine. Salad was crispy, and the dressing didn't overwhelm. They did run out of their specialty, but their menu doesn't disappoint. We had a wonderful dining experience and will come back again.

Really good Italian in a spot you may miss if you aren't looking for it. Smaller wine list than some Italian restaurants but the choices didn't disappoint. Very busy on Saturday night when we came in but staff was attentive and got us a table close to our reservation time. Wife ordered the ravioli special which was excellent.

This place is wonderful! All of our meals turned out amazing, and the bruchetta was great. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable and never let a glass get empty. The owner (I think) even heard a spoon fall of the table and had the waitress bring another set. And the bread pudding is to die for! Will definitely be coming back.

Had dinner with two others. Service was good and attentive. Calamari appetizer was different (not breaded, and served in a slightly spicy tomato sauce). Entree's were generous, pasta cooked perfectly and ingredients fresh and continued the theme of a slight twist on old favorites (my spaghetti and sausage had fresh mozzarella added). House wine was very nice. Desert, a chocolate cheese cake variant, was very tasty and the portion was generous enough for three to share. I think this is one of the better Italian restaurants in the Madison area, and it compares well to the ones I have visited in Milwaukee. However, I do think it is a little on the pricey side for some menu items, and you should know that (at least from what I have tried) they do add a bit of a culinary twist on some of the standard Italian items (which I personally like, but may surprise those with a view based mostly on chain Italian). I have eaten here many times and never been dissatisfied. And while all meals have been good, I have had some that were truly excellent (a wild boar and pasta preparation). I recommend it to friend's, and the ambiance, makes it a nice setting for an imitate meal, particularity during the week when its quieter. Would give it 4.5 if that were an option.

I returned my first plate. Totally not at all what was explained to me. I am not even sure how the waitress could have said " I could drink the tomato sauce all night long. " I returned it, that was a good thing. I was brought out another plate and was told "It's our house special ( meaning the sauce ), made every day fresh." it cost a bit less thank God, this place is way over priced. After my first bite, I just wanted to leave. The owner and wait staff were not happy that I was not satisfied, almost offended that I didn't like this food.

Sadly, this is not good Italian at all. What boggles my mind is how people think this is good Italian. Olive Garden does a much better job. And I am saying this as someone who cooks a lot and has eaten at the best Italian restaurants in NY and Boston's North End.

The food was bland for Italian fare. My wife and I had the calamari appetizer, for $16. It was disappointing, especially for the price, and we were surprised it was neither fried nor cut. It looked like stuffed ravioli without the stuffing. The sauce was described as a spicy marinara, but it was not marinara. It was a dark sauce, that was more spicy then flavorful. For an entree, my wife had the spicy Italian lasagna. It was fine, nothing special, however it was $17 and extremely overpriced for the quality and ambiance. I had the shrimp ravioli, which was tasteless and overpriced as well, at $24. Additionally, we barely saw our waitress as she was very inattentive. When asked by both our waitress and the manager about out meal, we replied "it was okay." Both of which treated the reply as if the meal was a positive experience. For the price, the ambiance was less than to be desired. For example, we counted at least 6 different types of chairs. We had the pleasure of sitting in uncomfortable "fire hall" banquet chairs and luckily we got along great with the table next to us- as we were on top of them and ended up chatting throughout the meal, due to the layout of the restaurant- not something you' expect for a $100 meal (with Tip, tax, and a bottle of wine).
Worst of all, when approaching the manager/owner upon departure, we were told "it would be nice to know about this during your meal." Rather than apologizing, the owner took the low road and was defensive. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, nor will we be returning.

Vin Santo is one of those local gems that you love to recommend to your friends, but always with the secret hope that there will be one empty table left for you. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, the service outstanding, and the food--ah, the food! If they have tiramisu in heaven, they probably get it here. The pasta dishes are beautifully done, and you can count on having a second delightful dinner with what you take home. (I've had the salsiccia rossa so many times that Clarissa, who oversees the dining room, asks if I'm OK when I order something else.) Greg, the chef, works wonders in the small kitchen at the back. The courteous staff includes people who have become familiar over the years, which shows that they are well treated, but which also offers the benefit of experience to the diner. Five years ago, on our tenth anniversary, my wife booked a party there, and for days after we heard from our friends how much they had enjoyed themselves, and how they loved the food. So try Vin Santo, but leave that little table in the corner.

I was so excited to visit this restaurant because of the reviews. Having done so I was so disappointed I had to write a review of my own. Starting with the "homemade" mushroom soup @ $8 - I could not believe it when I bit into squeaky rubbery obviously canned mushrooms. The taste was exactly like Campbells Mushroom soup with an added can of rubber mushrooms. My Bloody Mary was absolutely tasteless and my water was without ice. My entree was a special with a fancy name - I called it Lobster/Shrimp/Scallops Ravioli from Sams Club with a tasty sauce and pine nuts/fresh basil sprinkled on top. While the sauce was nice and hot the raviolis were room temp. My partner had the lasagna special which came so overcooked that it was pure mush. Bottom was burnt black and the sauce was dry. The bread that accompanied the meal was very good but was not warmed (I am trying hard not to be picky here but we do like our bread on the warm side). For the $70 price we would never recommend this place to anyone or visit here again. So disappointed after waiting for months to finally visit.
