Another amazing dinner at Wally’s South 17. Changed it up and came on Saturday evening for prime rib. Perfectly prepared and melts in your mouth. Chose the baked potato that was perfectly cooked and added 4 large shrimp for an additional side. Hard to beat the service especially when Walt himself makes it a point to come speak to every table to make sure everything is done to your liking.

I am sorry I need to write this review. I rarely rarely do reviews however I feel compelled to post one about Wally's. We have eaten at Wally several times and I've never been disappointed until tonight. My bang bang shrimp was great, however my husband's prime rib was not. He was served an END CUT upside down on the plate, like we wouldn't notice it?S Most end cuts are saved for something else like French dips or soup .They are not served unless someone asks for an end cuts as they are more heavily seasoned and generally more well done. In all fairness they brought another piece of meat out but my husband was too tired. He just wanted to go home so he sent it back. Then the bill comes and the full price is on the bill. Unbelievable! I had to ask them to take it off the bill. Well they charged us half price. So let's see $16 for a measly salad and a baked potato. And they were not very apologetic about the whole thing. The waitress was very nice. However, she did say that we should have said we don't want an uncut. That's not the way it works, I really believe they should have asked us before they served an end cut. It's just not done.

Tried Wally's for the first time last night. The place was packed and we were worried about the wait time. We found a spot at the bar and had one drink and our table was ready. We all had the fish fry and everything came out hot and tasted delicious. Our server, Elizabeth was very attentive and checked on us multiple times. Little did we know "Discover Wisconsin" was filming at our first visit! On vacation in the Northwoods went out for a nice dinner, Wally's did not disappoint!! My husband said it was the best steak he has had in a long time. My daughter is a connesure of chicken alfredo... she was thoroughly impressed! I had the parm shrimp, amazing! Walking in, we said hi to the server scurrying by with no response. Walked up to the bar and understood we needed to put our name on her list after asking if we could eat at the bar which was no. Then ordered a perfectly prepared old fashioned. It was a short wait enough time to enjoy the cocktail.

We were pointed into the direction of the table, then we waited a good 10 minutes for a single server servicing 10 tables to take our order. Order was taken but informed that a dish served with baked potato, that none were available. Then food came out in a timely manner. A cold simple salad with a plastic of dressing and dinner roll on same plate. Bang Bang shrimp were perfectly fried large shrimp. Then the menu item described as Crab Stuffed Haddock $25, 7ounce Haddock filled topped with crab cakes and broiled served with baked potato and vegetable of the day. - what was presented was a over broiled piece of fish with a tablespoon of crab over the top in butter, and a side of nicely prepared rice and green beans. No truth to menu here.
The restaurant seemed short staffed, a Wally type guy came out to help once but you could tell he was not comfortable assisting and disappears. It seemed all tables were asking for service. The server and bartender did the best they could. Decided to box up meals and headed to Culvers. That was amazing BTW. For Wally"s this could be a gem. Just need some good restaurant practices.

Walked in to 5 empty tables, discussed with the hostess and a different waitress that the other 3 in our party were 5 minutes out and that we would squeeze 5 adults onto a 4 top so we didn't take up 2 tables. The hostess and other waitress were perfectly fine with this. While in the process of scooting a single chair over to bring another in, and me being halfway in a sitting position, I'm not sure if the younger waitress thought we were arguing with the hostess and other waitress because she came over HOT and immediately starting giving us attitude, pointed at the bar and just repeated, twice "At. The. Bar." with the amount of sass I give my husband when he hasn't scooped the litter box. At this point the hostess had already told us the policy of sitting without the whole party there, which we had 0 issues with, but we were there for my best friend's birthday, and as soon as my husband and I sat down we were going to order a round of drinks for the table and appetizers to surprise her for when they showed up the exact 5 minutes later. We weren't trying to hog a table for 45 minutes and just order water and eat free bread. Again, had they been more than 5 minutes out we wouldn't have gotten a table right away, this isn't us being upset we couldn't get a table right away. So instead of arguing back we went outside after being told by the younger waitress "At. The. Bar" our friends showed up the 5 minutes later and we told birthday girl what happened and she wasn't okay with the unprompted attitude so we decided to go buy food elsewhere. I wasn't going to leave a review but I was prompted to by our friends because this is our usual dinner spot for birthdays and events. Now, we had no issues sitting at the bar waiting for our friends, if the hostess and other waitress would've told us or said 5 minutes was TOO LONG we would've just perched our happy butts on a bar stool, the unprompted, unprofessional attitude of the younger waitress immediately killed all good vibes we had dining at Wally's. While we stood outside and discussed new dinner plans only 2 cars showed up so there would've been more than enough room for them as we would've all 5 already been squeezed onto the 4 top with drinks in hand and apps on the way. We were even trying to sit in her section which is crazy because she literally took a $$$$ tip out of her own pocket. Super disappointed in whatever training didn't stick for the younger waitress because everyone else was lovely! I should thank the waitress though, because instead of spending $150 just on my husband and I pre tip we went to trig's and spent $150 for all 5 of us and I still got to shower my girl with the birthday love she deserves!! ♥️

I have been at this restaurant 5 times over the past 7 months. Not sure if their very good chef left or what is up. The quality is definitely down. The portions are smaller, Shepard pie. Where’s the meat?? 4 months ago great 2 weeks ago not so. A quality chef would not serve soggy over done asparagus.
The starter salad is lettuce with one tiny tomato. Wow that went down hill. I will try once again, making my visit for the 6th time. I the quality does not improve, I am moving on. What a shame. Bring the great chef back

WOWZER!!! What a horrible experience. I was told you have to try this place. I must have caught it on a REALLY OFF NIGHT. Got here around 7. Was not to busy at all, but still had to wait for a table. Got an Orange Old Fashion ($12!!!!). Was plain as plain could be. Like a pre-mix with a muddled cherry. The cherry was soaked in bitters i believe. Ate the cherry not knowing it was horrible. Got cheese curds($11). What they call bang bang sauce was boring. What the heck. The curds where probably the worst I have ever had. Some where cubed and had light a doughy inside without cheese. Some tasted like old meat. It was the stranges thing ever. I ordered the Italian Baked Haddock with garlic melody potato's ( $18). The fish was fishy and chewy. Seriously chewy. It had hard cheese on top. Was horrible. Way over cooked. The potato's had no garlic and where dry. I had to cut them with a fork edge because the knife wasn't working. The coleslaw had been prepacked and taste fridge burnt on top. Will never go back. Spent $50 with tips!! Wish the culver's wasn't so busy it would have saved me $30. I can't think the last time I had such a bad FISH FRY. The host was the high light. She greeted me right away and was very nice.

The fish fry took 15 minutes plus to get to me. It was super slow and I don't know what the hell was going on back in the kitchen. Like they made my food and forgot to bring it out as it sat under a heat lap.

I’ve been coming here at least once a month for the past 2 years. Never once have I been disappointed. The food and service are top notch. For years I had another restaurant that was my #1 for Friday night fish fry but Wally’s perch is now my #1. Tonight was my first time coming for Saturday night prime rib and was not disappointed. We sat at the bar, had 1 drink and got our table (I have a feeling that is because of the snow storm).Our server Elizabeth was phenomenal. My husband and I wanted to try a new restaurant. Wally's did NOT disappoint! I had the Italian baked Haddock and my husband had the crab stuff Haddock. We also had bang bang shrimp. It was amazing! Inviting environment and staff especially our waitress were very professional and friendly Definitely will be back!

Wallys is hands down our favorite restaurant to hit whenever we are in Rhinelander! You can always count on a delicious meal and excellent service. We always recommend this place to everyone we know. The experience is always positively consistent. Not to mention, they undoubtedly have the best fish fry in town! Best food in the northwoods by far! If you're looking for reliably good restaurant to take your loved one's to, Wally's is THE place to go!!

Some of our favorite items on the menu include: Friday fish fry, crab stuffed haddock, honey glazed salmon, cheese curd platter, cheesecake & bread pudding!

We have always enjoyed this restaurant and overall we had a good experience. Couple of things that might have turned 4 into 5 stars were the "gravy" that was described on the menu was really some sort of sweet chili sauce that in my opinion did not work with the pork ribeye. Maybe serve on the side? Meat was great quality and done perfectly.

The only other thing that bothered us was the hostess (?) kept clearing things from the table prematurely. She was pleasant but even wanted to clear our water glasses before we were done. Wasn't so busy that our table was needed, she was looking for things to do but...

We'll still go back but wanted to put some feedback out there ☺️

Small, simple, easy, and the food was A+. Staff was great as well. Didn't know what to expect at first, as we didn't really look into it, but we weren't disappointed. I'm a cheaper buyer usually as I'm never really impressed when I pay more, but you got what you paid for. Even my four year old enjoyed himself with no video games. Thanks!

We enjoyed Wally's on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere is just what I wanted for a supper club. Soft music from the brat pack playing, comfortable lighting, just perfect. We sat at the bar for a few minutes and got a couple of brandy old fashioneds. Very good. We got sat quickly. Our waitress, Elizabeth, was attentive and pleasant. She offered the special and took our order and she was friendly with all the tables.

We ordered and I asked for my ribeye between rare and medium rare. My wife ordered the 6 oz filet. Rolls were brought out and our salads followed. Both were good. Our steaks followed and they couldn't have been any better.

My ribeye was large, and cooked absolutely perfectly. My wife's was also cooked perfectly medium rare. I had blue cheese, mushrooms, and onions on my steak and it was wonderful.

Elizabeth was attentive but not annoying with here check-ins. Wally himself was working the dining room, making sure everyone was happy.

We finished sharing a slice of chocolate chip cheesecake with Oreo crust. Delicious!

I'm not often happy with restaurant experiences. I'm happy to say this was a great experience. We will come back.

Arrived just before 7 on a Saturday night. There are about 10 tables and all were taken. Waited at bar for 30-40 minutes. Cheese curd appetizer, crab cake appetizer, chicken noodle soup, prime rib, and bread pudding all worth the wait. Server and hostess were very nice and attentive. Old fashionds were a bit pricey.

Very quaint supper club. We had the prime rib proutine and baby back ribs and shared the bread pudding dessert.. Everything tasted very good. Our service was excellent. Highly recommend!

Read the reviews online and decided to try. We were VERY impressed! The only thing better than the awesome food was the service! It’s a small restaurant so we had to wait at the bar for about 20 minutes. We had a couple tasty drinks before being seated. For dinner the four of us had prime rib (x2), parmesan shrimp and crab cakes. Also had bread pudding for dessert. EVERYTHING was great! It’s the kind of hidden gem you always hope to find when you’re from out of town. We will get back when we are in the area again!

Everything at Wally’s is amazing. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out. They have THE best spinach and artichoke dip in the northwoods and I would bet in the whole state. Every dish looks incredible.
Also, Wally, I have only seen one owner work as hard as you and that was 20+ years ago..
He puts his heart and soul into this supper club and it is the best around.
Worth the wait, and worth the travel if you are not close

Absolutely everything you could want in a Wisconsin Supper Club! Great food, excellent selection, generous cocktails, friendly attentive service. After a stressful hungry night causing us to dine later than usual, we walked in at 8:55 pm 5 minutes before closing and they graciously said no problem to serving dinner. And the chef is excellent! We enjoyed the best bang bang shrimp we have ever had anywhere. I strongly recommend Wally’s. Enjoy! 😁😁😁

Just tried the salmon for the first time! Genuinely one of the best meals I've ever had. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Walt and his staff were amazing as always! Can't recommend Wally's South 17 enough!! I've never had anything I didn't like. Unbelievable food, great atmosphere and wonderful service! Not to mention, they have the BEST cheesecake in town!!! Tonight I tried red velvet and it didn't disappoint!😍

We ate at Wally's Friday night and all four of us were impressed. Two of us had the Italian Baked Haddock, one had Fried Walleye and I had the Crab Stuffed Haddock. All of it was delicious and the service was great. I love that there were options other than just fried or plain baked fish. We will be going back!

All good accept the Bar! Be carful with the bar prices! Make sure you know what you are paying for up front! Paid $15 for a Martini from one bar tender after paying $9 for the first Martini from a second one. When I confronted the bar tender I was told the first bar tender did not charge enough??? My second visit to the restaurant I ran a bar tab and the overcharging bar tender (with many tattoos) conveniently charged exactly what I had laying on the bar, overcharging quite a bit from my perspective!!! Food and Service was great!

Experienced waitstaff, excellent food! We ordered the crabcakes (very little breading, almost all crab, on a bed of REALLY fantastic greens), clam chowder (potatoes with skin on, so good), and the Wally's Wellington with parmesan potatoes (demi-glaze was awesome). Bread rolls were super fresh and soft. Old fashioneds had a nice pour. This place is super small and quaint (only 9 tables), but they have a gazebo with full bar service and tables while you wait. You can also order some appetizers and peruse the menu out there. We arrived at 4:20 and were able to be seated right away with the first group of diners.

We ordered our steaks MR. My husband's was served very well done and mine was served M-MW. We told the waitress and showed her our steaks. She went into the kitchen to tell the chef. She never came back to our table. When she brought the bill, I asked her if she had told the chef. She said yes, and said that there was a miscommunication between the chef and the sou chef, and apologized. No compensation was offered. It was a very disappointing dinner.

We were so excited to try this new place tonight … and it did NOT disappoint. Our group ordered a variety of appetizers and entrees and they were all incredible. Ahi tuna, baked spinach artichoke dip, cheese curds, crab cakes … then steak, pork ribeye, jerk kebabs (on special). Amazing service, such kind people, and major props to the hard working people in the kitchen! So excited to go back!
