Arrived just after four pm, no reservation. Seated immediately indoors. Lovely place and I already knew the food would be great since my son and his wife have dined two weekends in a row here. Our server, Brittney (sorry if the spelling is incorrect), was absolutely fantastic. We ordered an app and it was out pronto followed by salads that were obviously made by someone who takes pride not only in flavor but the appearance and presentation. Entrees, like the salads, were timed perfectly (credit to Brittney) and were delicious. I had the prime rib special and my lady had the chicken parmigiana. We were both impressed and sampled each other’s entrees. We both took food home for a second meal. We will definitely be back and soon!

We sat outside which was so beautiful with the flowers, water and landscaping. Our server was Sasha who was very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and tavern history. She took great care of us. We completely enjoyed our breakfast!! Definitely will return for more great food and service! The only reason for the initial 4 stars is although I love the coffee station for self-service, I would have loved a small coffee holder/pitcher to bring to the table for all of us. This is a beautiful place for outdoor dining but the inside is equally as beautiful. Food and drinks were pretty good but I must say that I felt like the food was overwhelmed with salt. I'm partial to my own dirty martinis but I was willing to try one here. Next time, we'll have a mixer and a craft beer on tap. Ordered a whiskey on the rocks with dinner
Upon receiving the bill I noticed a charge of 2.00 for ice
After inquiring about charge I was told by our bartender it was for the extra step in pouring an 11.00/ per ounce drink on ice
I asked the same to the manager before I left and was told that it makes up for the lack of margins in other services they provide
Both answers were poor at best
I left assuming that:
1)Ice water is free in this establishment so next time I’ll order that and scoop the ice out and place in my drink
2)Because I can afford an 11.00 per ounce whiskey the assumption is made I should pay 2.00 for ice cubes to help offset the bills /dinners of other patrons? Sounds like socialism to me.
3)Possibly this s is an anti “Ice” campaign?

We’ve been here twice in the last 2 weeks- food was really good. I got the steak sandwich the first time and the wedge and French onion soup the second time.

The wait staff was pretty friendly the first visit which was on a Wednesday or Thursday I believe. The last visit was yesterday (a Friday) and the hostess was friendly. We sat at the bar for dinner and drinks since we did not have a reservation but we did not get a greeting or even a glance from anyone behind the bar for close to 5+ minutes. They were busy and visibly extremely focused/stressed? Understandably since it was 7:30 on a Friday night but a quick “hey guys we’ll be right with you” goes such a long way.

The ambiance would be 10/10 if they had any music playing. It makes for an awkward hour and a half dinner with absolutely nothing playing on a Friday night. Just background music would have really elevated the experience but we didn’t hear anything during our visit.

Overall we will be back and there is a lot of potential! We would recommend 🙂

I can’t speak highly enough about Water Street Tavern in Stoughton. We drove out here for dinner to avoid the crowds in Madison The food, decor and most of all the service was fantastic. Love the atmosphere and service here, but I ordered the walleye special... breaded and fried. In all my mid western fish fry experiences, I've never had a fried piece of fish with the skin still on it. It kinda shocked me, and grossed me out a little. I didn't realize this until I got home. I would've definitely mentioned it at the restaurant if I knew. All I can hope is that this was a huge mistake in the kitchen that night. Otherwise, I'd say this is not a good choice to control labor costs. If this is their general practice, then servers should disclose that the skin is still on it when it's ordered.

Wow! We have been wanting to check this place out since we moved to Stoughton in January and it did not disappoint! Our server Sasha was amazing, her energy is infectious. Absolutely loved her. Phenomenal. Literally, this rivals Ishnala in my book. Maybe it’s not on a lake, but everything else? Completely on par, in my opinion.

I walked in to a cozy atmosphere, very upscale supper club vibes. Everyone walking out had at least one box and I found out why - the portions are massive.

My husband had the ribeye, you could’ve cut it with a fork, I swear. I had the shrimp. Initially I was skeptical, but they were huge prawns, perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned.

Long time Stoughton resident here. I took my family in for apps and drinks over the holidays and couldn't have been more impressed with the atmosphere, the service, and the food. We had the brussels sprout side, stuffed mushrooms, and steak sandwiches. All of them were amazing, and the steak sandwich was completely on point!

If you visited Water Street prior to their metamorphosis into a supper club, you owe it to yourself to visit it again. No TVs, super classic decor, and an Art-o-mat machine full of fun, kitschy, handmade art.

Highly recommend for a special night out. Prices were very reasonable considering the overall quality of the food and the experience!

My hubby and had a little date night here last Friday 12/6. I made the reservation online and we were seated right away. I was surprised to see that it was almost a full house! The renovations look fantastic and really added to the "supper club" ambience. It has a much more upscale look now, and the candles on the tables were a nice touch. We both ordered the 10 Oz. sirloin, both cooked to medium, with a house salad. My husband had french fries, and I had the mashed potatoes. They were garlic mash, I believe, and were delicious. The house salads were pretty good, too, with a mix of baby greens and arugula. He also had the coleslaw, and I chose a cup of their French onion soup - both were very delicious! My husband's steak came out perfectly, but mine was a touch overdone. They were very busy, so I didn't ask to have it remade, and it was still very tasty. My husband remarked that he could taste the grilled char taste on his steak, which he liked very much. He also had the grilled shrimp as an add-on, and that was probably the best part of the meal! They were very busy, so I understand, but we had a few service issues, such as I had to remind our server that I also ordered the cup of soup, and also had to remind her to bring out my husband's french fries. Also, we had to request salt/pepper - which I would prefer just already be placed on the tables. I had the lemon-vodka Cosmopolitan, which was delicious, and my husband ordered a Korbel Old Fashioned. His drink initially just came out as a glass of Korbel, so we did send it back to request it be made into an old fashioned. All issues were resolved quickly and politely. We also got to chat with Dylan, the operations manager, for a bit, and we could tell he was really invested in getting the new digs up to speed. He was very friendly, and accommodating, and seemed to be talking to a lot of other patrons, which is good to see. All in all, we really enjoyed our dinner. The food came out fairly quick. I would suggest to have salt/pepper shakers on the tables, and to have toothpicks and/or mints available on the hostess stand to grab on the way out. We will be back!

We had a very nice dinner at the reopened and remodeled Water Street Tavern here in Stoughton WI. This is a great "supper club" style gathering spot, where they have perfected the dishes they offer. I had the clam chowder to start--which rivaled anything I've had back east--and the blue burger. Both were delicious. The service was very good & attentive, atmosphere fun & upbeat, and the manager even came to our table to make sure we were happy with our meals. Another great addition to the food scene in Stoughton! While not "locals", we visit regularly when attending the Stoughton Opera House shows. The tavern recently reopened with a new menu and has definitely raised the bar for dining. The atmosphere blends neighborhood bar vibes with a supper club dining room. The current menu listing is small (half page bar and one page food), but the selections cover a wide range.

From the cocktail menu, we sampled the Cosmopolitan (bright, citrus), the French 75, the Manhattan, and the Old Fashioned. All were well-crafted, with the Manhattan being a stand-out for me.

The Rhode Island style (sweet sauce with peppers) fried calamari were tender with enough pepper to add a mild "zing". Neighboring tables went with the stuffed mushrooms, which will be my next choice.

There is a paucity of vegetarian options on the menu, but the omnivore selection proved excellent for our tastes. The steak sandwich (medium rare, flank) was tender and reminiscent of churrascaria fare with the chimichurri sauce. The chicken Cordon Bleu nicely balanced the ham/chicken with a light, flavorful sauce. The Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes that accompanied the chicken were also excellent.

Our server, Sasha, was attentive, friendly, informative (great ability to explain the menu options) and enthusiastic without being over-bearing. Her joy in being part of the tavern team made date night even more enjoyable.

Lastly, the tavern hosts an Artamat. Last time we saw one of these was in the St. Kate's in Milwaukee. Love these things (IYKYK)

Had a great meal last weekend on a soft open of the new joint. Vibe is supper club now. Interior is all new and patios outside look great. Menus are abbreviated but still lots of choices. First time at this restaurant. The food was good and the atmosphere was good. The service was lacking. From the time we self seated, it took 15 minutes before we had a server. Ordered 2 drinks, 10 min later was told the beers were out. Then ordered 2 different drinks and food. Took another 10 min for our drinks and 15 for our food. Server did not check up on us once. Another server did. Had to go inside to get our check and the original server was inside just talking to another server. It seems like a really neat place but the service makes it difficult to visit again...

Ran out of walleye on Friday night fish fry. "Loaded" baked potato was half the size it should have been. Had a couple of sprinkles of cheese, a couple bits of bacon, and a mini dollop of sour cream. Over the top price for what you get. The taste was good but not worth it.

Best cheese curds anywhere! Service was a little slow but they were busy and appeared short staffed. Didn't stress about it. A most awesome moment was when the owner (wife) hopped in the river to rescue a flip flop lost by a little boy on the dock. That's customer service right there!!
Very nice outdoor seating along the river and covered area against the building. Got the Tavern burger with the horseradish aoli on the side Burger didn't seem seasoned without the aoli. Much better with it. Overall very nice environment. Def come back for the cheese curds!

The entire staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The service was excellent, food and drinks were timely and tasted great. We have a toddler, to who, they were very accommodating. They brought her extra mandarin oranges and treats with her dinner.

Cute little bar and grill off on a side St. From the outside it doesn't look too impressive but the inside is very nicely done. Sits right by the water, would be enjoyable during the warmer months. We ordered the Rueben and Chicken Strips with curds on the side. The curds and the Rueben were outstanding! The Strips were average. We got a pitcher of water for our table that was great without even having to ask. Limited menu, but overall the food was good.

Water Street Tavern has taken over the old Naughty Norske location, on the river, and for the better, in my opinion. They have the best patio in Stoughton, for outdoor drinks and dining, and have a warm and comfortable dining room in winter.

The service is always friendly and conversational, if they're not too busy to chat. I think they also just started doing trivia on Monday nights. (There was trivia last night; I'll have to update my review when I know more.)

I would describe the menu as "elevated bar fare," so good burgers, salads, sandwiches. They make great fries, an excellent burger, and my favorite salad in town: the sunflower salad. They also offer a limited Wisconsin Charcuterie. The smoked whitefish spread (also available on a sandwich) is fantastic.

I really only have too small critiques...

1. I would love to see their menu expanded a bit. Don't get me wrong, it's a tasty menu, but at the same time... Stoughton has no shortage of bar fare. I know they're only in their first year, but it'd be great to see Water Street Tavern expand their menu a bit beyond bar fare.

2. This is an accessibility thing. For those who have noise sensitivities, this dining room can get particularly loud. I typically avoid busier times, or bring along a special set of earplugs to mitigate getting overwhelming by the sound. Some sound absorption on the ceiling would go a long way. (Water Street, I'd like to talk to you more about this.)

Overall, this is one of my favorite local spots, and I'm glad to have them in town.

I’ve been to Water Street Tavern multiple times and it’s always amazing! They have a beautiful outdoor patio that’s right along the river. All of the food and drinks are delicious but my favorites are the Sunflower Salad, Tavern Burger and their french fries. The watermelon margarita is very tasty as well. The bartenders and servers are friendly and offer great service. The owners always check in with customers to ensure they are having a great experience too, which is great. I highly recommend this place!!

Nice little place to get a bite to eat and drinks by the water. The appetizers were good, but wish there was more of a menu. Thought it was a little strange to have to keep a tab open instead of paying the check at the end. We had to resubmit our cards because they couldn’t find them in the system at the end anyway, so that didn’t make much sense. I’d come here again, but it would be nice to see more food/drinks on the menu.

Interior is a bar, but the hidden gem is the outdoor patio. Comfortable seating right by a quiet river. Menu is not extensive, but what it does offer is really good. There is an adult grilled cheese for non-meat eaters too. Friendly and welcoming waitstaff. Will be back!

I was here for the soft launch during Syttende Mai. I had a tasty whitefish sandwhich and the Watermelon Margarita (which could definitely use some salt on the rim). The patio space is fantastic and the interior is rustic/longhouse. I recommend a trip, and I'll be coming back to explore their full menu.
