In from out of town solo, and I was looking for Gluten Free food, and was amazed by this place! My *Only* fault is it can be tricky to find parking.

A fun tiki theme, nice atmosphere and great food. I had jerk wings and crachos which were nacho toppings on fries. Served with a fork, as there was a lot going on there! Just spicy enough, not overwhelming.
The staff were friendly and attentive, and checked in to see if needed anything.
I'm pissed this place is 2hrs from my home. I would absolutely be a regular if closer!

This place is great! I had plans to go somewhere else but saw the sign and decided I would give it a try. The drinks are great and reasonably priced. The food was excellent! I had the ahi poke and the flavor was very very good. Very happy I stopped.

Can't speak highly enough about this place. Visited with my wife on a Friday night and there must have been 7-10 people working! Outstanding service! The bartenders were so nice & engaging and were happy to answer any questions we had about the drinks or food. Well made cocktails and the Crack fries are addicting! We will definitely be back (and you should to!)

⭐ Loyal Customer with Dietary Needs Hoping for Consistency

I’ve been coming here for years and genuinely love the vibe, especially when dining in. Saturdays are my favorite ,because the owner is usually around, and when he is, everything just clicks. He listens, he understands dietary restrictions, and the kitchen and bar staff are consistently on point under his leadership. That’s why I often order out on Fridays( if I'm in a rush) and come back a different week but on a Saturday to dine in. I truly respect how he runs things.

That said, I’m sharing this with care and hope. I have celiac disease and react easily, so I’m extremely cautious. Despite ordering carefully, I’ve had reactions to the crack seasoning, and even lab results showing elevated markers after eating here. I suspect cross-contact at the bar may be the culprit.

Another concern: the coconut water served isn’t certified gluten-free. When I asked the bartender, he wasn’t sure and told me to “look it up.” It turned out to be Kirkland brand, which I’ve researched and unfortunately can’t have. That kind of uncertainty makes it hard for people like me to feel safe ordering especially when the owner isn’t around to ensure ingredient transparency.

I usually stick to my safe go-to: Caesar side salad, chicken strips with no seasoning, and fries without crack seasoning (this time didn't react the same way with the seasoning ) and noticed on Facebook celiacs that they react too,But I brought friends in recently, and the experience didn’t match what I’d talked up. One friend ordered pork tacos and said the tortillas were stale not soft, not crisp, just off. I tried them too and agreed. Another friend had the fried rice, crack fries, and sauces. The jerk chicken tasted boiled, not grilled or spiced like jerk should.

I’m not writing this to bash I’m writing this because I care. The owner is amazing, and the team is capable of delivering great food and service. I just hope that same level of care and ingredient knowledge can be consistent across the board(the bar not knowing anything about celiacs ooof), even when he’s not around. Anyone working the kitchen or bar should know what they’re serving and whether it’s truly gluten-free not “probably,” not “made in a facility,” but certified and safe.

Thank you 🙏 for all the times you’ve gotten it right. I want to keep coming back. I want to keep recommending this place. I even hoped my friend would feature it on her podcast ,but Friday’s experience made that hard. Maybe with a little extra love and attention, I can bring her back and update this review to reflect the best version of this place I know and love.

To the owner- I'm so sorry but I would have told you in person , but I had to do it here & I'll hold on other website reviews to see if this changes or not the next time I come in.

While the drinks and the service were good, the main issue was the food. The jerk chicken sandwich had a bun as hard as a brick, chicken as dry as sawdust, and no jerk taste-weirdly more like tomato. The wauwatiki burger was ok, but again the bun was hard and the meat had no seasoning. If you want to go somewhere with friends for drinks only this is a good option, but if you want to eat as well then this is not the place to go.

This was was such a fun vibe! The fries were so yummy!! I would probably avoid the banana DTO very sweet. The dead man’s bunch was great and so was the cinnamon toasted pineapple. The service here was great, they were very kind and on top of things. What a great hang out spot!

It wasn't busy (we were one of four occupied tables with the bar only 1/3 full at most), but took 20 minutes to get a single drink. Waited about an hour after that for our food to come out, the nachos were stone cold- as if they'd practically come out of the fridge, and we asked for the egg for the fried rice to be served on top, over easy. Had to ask for the egg after the food came out- first they forgot it entirely, then they brought out a hard cooked fried egg. Drinks were 90% ice, there were fruit flies flying in our food and drinks, and they forgot to split the bill in half like we'd asked twice for towards the beginning of the meal.
The atmosphere is beautiful, and what you do get from your drinks is delicious, even if $12 is more than I'd like to spend on like three ounces of liquid. They comped the nachos, and our waitress was sweet though checked in less than she should have especially with how quiet the place was, and more than a little nervous from beginning to end while we were still trying to be optimistic about it all, which made it even more awkward. I really want to like this place. But we e been here 4 or 5 times, and half of our experiences have been disappointing.
For our bill total($130 for four people) I'd rather just go to Ono Kine Grindz for authentic Hawaiian food, and then head down to Foundation Tiki Bar where the drinks taste just as good, have less ice, and you get to keep the tiki cup for the same price.

I noticed that the service was quite slow, even though there weren't many guests at the time. It seemed like the kitchen might be facing some challenges, which affected the overall quality and timing of the dishes. For example, the nachos arrived cold, and the rice wasn't cooked quite properly.
Additionally, the drink options were with only ice and a small amount of alcohol. The bill was also a bit higher than I expected given the overall experience. Waste of money. Sorry

I hope this feedback can be helpful for future improvements. Thank you.

The waitress was really nice and did a great job. The food would have gotten a one star, but the Cesar salad was good. The poke bowl is not what you think a poke bowl would be. It came on a tray with nothing more than tortilla chips and a sauce that was not good and the fish chunks. It was disappointing. The jerk chicken sandwich was bad, and the lightning inside not only gave us a headache, but also gave the food unappetizing colors. We didn’t have any drinks, so maybe this is a place to drink and not eat. My three stars are based on the average of the three categories of food, service, and atmosphere.

Had a great evening. My husband got the fish fry, I got the Island stir fry with seared tuna. We also ordered hurricane cocktails and seasoned fries. Everything was fabulous. Wow! I cannot emphasize how wonderful our experience as Wauwatiki was!
To start, every drink we had was incredible. There are mostly rum based drinks but you will see mezcal, tequila, and gin drinks as well. None of these drinks were too sweet or too boozy; each one was perfectly balanced and so drinkable.
Second, the kitchen is certified gluten free. This is such a rare find in the city with some places being “gluten friendly” but a truly certified kitchen is amazing.
And then, the service. This was some of the best service I’ve ever had! Every bar tender came up multiple times to chat and check in with us. Danny, the manager, came over multiple times to talk with us about Milwaukee bar culture and to recommend drinks based on our palates. Our waters were always filled which was such a nice touch.
This is the best bar experience I’ve had in Milwaukee and I cannot wait to return

Tried Wauatiki for the first time yesterday for date night. The atmosphere is amazing! So many on brand, decorations and mood lighting. We tried the pineapple Mojito and pain in the tiki drinks. Both were refreshing and just what we were looking for. My girlfriend had the Hawaiian fried rice with steak. I had Caribbean jerk chicken strips and we shared fries. Everything was super flavorful and just how we ordered. Our server was extremely friendly and gave us plenty of time to browse the menu. Definitely will be back in the near future!

I stopped here with a friend on a Tuesday night. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. We had almost the entire place to ourselves. There are plenty of tables and some booths off to the side. The island music was great- a fun, mellow vibe. The bartenders were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. I ordered seltzer with a lime; my guest ordered white wine. Her wine arrived in a can which surprised both of us. We had a nice time, but the second shock came with the bill- $15 for a seltzer and a can of wine. 🤔

The dranks were unique and remind me of being in a tropical place! The food was good and they give you a nice portion size for the price but not the best I've ever had. I like how they have different menus depending on the day of the week. I went on a Friday and we scanned a bar code to see their extended menu and they had alot of options! Definitely a nice and unique experience! I would love to try them in Summer, sit on the patio with one of their tropical dranks!

Not a fan of this place. At all. It’s super cute inside, but the food is not great. I ordered the chicken hoagie and the bread was dry. The chicken did not taste even a bit like it had jerk seasoning on it, which it was supposed to. The salsa was off and the ranch was not even noticeable. I wasn’t a fan. The crack fries were way better than my sandwich. If I had known, I would’ve just got the fries and nothing else. I also ordered a virgin pina colada drink that was like 90% ice. I complained about it and they gave me another one, but then proceeded to charge me for it. So I essentially paid $10 for some sips. Never again. Which is unfortunate because it tasted really good. Overall this place was a no for me.

The drinks were our only highlight, unfortunately. We went on a Saturday evening to find many menu items were out and the kitchen was backed up that we’d have to wait an additional 10-20 min? Our Hawaiian fried rice was burnt and not worth the hour+wait.

The banana DTO and Pain in my Tiki were both enjoyable drinks that we probably would’ve gotten second rounds of if food didn’t come so late.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner tonight and are unlikely to return. Our drinks and the bar staff were great and we got a seat outside and everything went downhill. The QR code didn't work so I had to order off of the website and ask my server to ensure our food found our table. Then we waited. An hour(I knew from the confirmation email I received when I ordered) later my boyfriend's Spice Belly (sweet potatoes, pork belly and sauce) and my Chicken Hoagie Sandwich arrived. It was fine but probably not worth the price and an hour wait. Insult to injury is I tipped on the website before I waited or received my food because of their websites set up. Mind you I submitted my order, payment method and had to instruct my server where to direct my food. I'll own that, I should be more careful where I decide to spend my money, it will no longer be at Wauwatiki.

So the pros of this place is the food is pretty good and the drinks and bar staff are great. Unfortunately the cons outweighs the pros. They have you order through an app so you don't always know what you're getting. In my case it had to do with ordering the pork belly with sweet potato. At a $16 price point I assumed it was an entree (they don't differentiate appetizers vs entrees on the app) what I got was one medium size sweet potato with about 1oz of pork belly. This took over an hour after we were seated to arrive. The atmosphere is great and the food is slightly above average 6/10 but with the other much better options within a few blocks this will be out last Wauwatiki visit.

The food was so delicious! Service sucked. The waitress was not attentive at all! She NEVER came to check on us. After waiting 45 minutes for our food, my sister asked for an ETA on receiving the food. The waitress looked at my sister as if she asked a dumb question. The waitress did not come to say sorry for any delay. We received our food an hour and ten minutes after ordering! Even after receiving our food, the waitress did not come by to see how the first few bites were, nothing! We even had to ask for more water! Service was totally awful! I hope no one else has this experience! The food was delicious! I can't even give the service one star!!!

I went with a friend. We sat at a booth for 5, and there were only 2 of us. A little awkward. Service was literally ok - you pour your own water, and the waitress comes around whenever she comes around. We ordered food after about 20 minutes of being there, and it took 45 minutes to get to us. I'm talking burger and tenders, nothing fancy. I asked for a medium burger and got a well-done burger. My husband makes better burgers at home. 10 minutes after we started eating our food, it felt the waitress was in a rush to get us out the door. The noise and acoustics aren't great for casual conversation. The food wasn't good, in my opinion. I personally won't be going back. For the price of the food the quality could be much better. Nothing was seasoned properly. Jerk chicken hoagie was way too salty and no complimenting Flavors, It was just a big mush pile on a hoagie. Crack fries are amazing. The Hawaiian fried rice had no flavor and very oily. Chicken strips app was over cooked/salted. The fish tacos you only get 2 and not worth the price. I understand jerk seasoning is spicy and salty but it was overdone and not flavorful. The brownie dessert was burnt on the bottom and dry on top. They pride on atmosphere and good drinks. Too expensive to be this bad... had to send my food back because it was ice cold 🥶 came back kinda warm... my bf couldn't eat his tacos because they were flavorless and dry. They make everything gluten free I guess but my bun was soggy like oatmeal and my fries had the consistency of old McDonald's fries, hard and very thin. Cold inside, perhaps owner is trying to save $ on heat? Waitress was nice, Cute atmosphere and drinks are good but have like 0% alcohol in them 🥲 def not coming back.

My wife is a celiac so we keep hoping! Stopped in on Wednesday night, half price wing night. The wings are half priced because I think they are literally wings from a sparrow or canary, the smallest wings I have ever seen. Also the wings were so salty they were almost inedible. We give this place a chance every few months and the drinks and service are always good. Jerk chicken tacos were the only good item we had. The food almost always is bad. Time to keep the menu simple and stop trying to be what you aren’t, a restaurant. You are a tiki bar stick to that.

Both my daughter and I have issues with gluten, so I was excited to take her here (along with my wife) for GF cheese curds. The cheese curds were amazing, and we may go back just for them. The rest of the food was pretty awful. The presentation was bad and the taste was bad. My wife ordered the salmon, my daughter had the fried rice and I had the chicken hoagie.

The salmon looked very unappetizing and had little flavor. The coconut curry sauce was almost black and there was little flavor to it.

The Hawaiian Fried Rice almost unedible. It tasted like the rice was fried in old oil that gave the dish a very off taste.

The Chicken Hoagie was flavorless. For a sandwich that should have had a lot of flavor (jerk chicken and "volcano ranch"), it was dry and had little flavor. The "crack fries" were okay. They were cooked well and had good flavor.

All the food was just plopped onto metal trays and it didn't feel like there was any care in the presentation of the food. This was so disappointing as I really wanted to have a new "go-to" GF restaurant. Unfortunately, this isn't it.

One more thing.... They only provide plastic utensils, which just added to the overall poor presentation and low quality food.

Go for the drinks and ambience, and maybe the apps. But, the food is not worth the visit.

The most disgusting food possible. Also very expensive for garbage. Both myself and my friend could not eat our food because it was disgusting and did not look good either. I did not eat more than a small bite of my food, and I was not given any compensation for the terrible food. Why is a burger $20….. the only decent thing was my drink. I would like another.

Excellent experience!
Pete, the owner, bar tended for us. The drinks were off the charts delicious! He even came up with some mock tails (7 months pregnant currently).
The la La burger was to die for and the crack fries were addicting just like they said they would be! Will definitely be back and recommending to others!

Well I had higher expectations. The server was rude and charged our credit cards twice - claiming the first didn't go through. But a few days later I checked my card and was charged twice and had to dispute charge. Very much low quality bar food. Would not go back.

Honestly one of the worst experiences eating out ever. The food was great but our server alexia was absolutely terrible, rude, and just seemed like we were annoying her the entire time. She refused to answer any questions we had about the menu and just asked us to look at the menu for our questions. Would not come back because of that reason

Great family dinner here. Drinks were better than the food, but we all enjoyed our evening out. The service was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I'm going to give the food another chance. Best part was the completely gluten-free menu so my husband could eat out safely.

Me and my brother had a few drinks across the street and didn't feel like going home just yet so we stopped at Wauwatiki bar and it was great. We went on a Wednesday night so not many people were out but it was great for what we were looking for. They don't have a lot of beer options but have a lot of other mixed drinks that would be perfect to bring a date here. The outside sitting is great , plenty of space between tables. The inside vide and the inside decor is on point, fits the name. The staff was very friendly and talkative as well.
We are more beer guys than anything but we will both definitely be coming back !

This by far was the worst dining experience I ever had. My son and I ordered the Loco Moco. We literally made a ball out of the congealed gravy. As a Chef for 28 years I cannot believe that dish was allowed to leave the kitchen. 2 others in our group ordered the rib basket that as not edible, they were dried out and burnt. The burger was just as bad and we had to cut off all the char to be able to bite into it. Save your money and eat at the Dairy Queen next door.

Burgers were converted to charcoal around the edge. It was not good. I just tore the outside of the patty off. All the meat was super dried out or/and burnt on our dishes.

Alright place for cocktails and appetizers but I'd avoid entrees.

I am so impressed with this place. It was so nice to order from a menu I didn't have to modify. The food was amazing, we got the tiki burger (sub jerk chicken) and the Loco Moco. We had crack fries for an appetizer. The portions were huge we each took half home. Probably because we ate all the crack fries appetizer. The service was great and the atmosphere was so fun! We will be back

The kitchen is gluten-free and mostly good (that's my opinion--you might love it even more than me). It's a kinda limited menu, and some of their food tastes like it's cooked on a grill/charcoal, so it can have a smoky flavor. That's not really my favorite flavor enhancement, but I know some people love it.
The crack fries are delightful, and they have a good size cocktail menu. The atmosphere is great and the outside patio seating is nice. Some of those benches look like they could use some zjuzjing up, fresh paint & lacquer, but overall it's nice. Clean bathrooms, clean dining areas.

Great dining experience and amazing staff. Having a safe place to eat gluten free is important to us for allergy reasons and this place worked great. I feel all the food was in good portion size and price except the cheese curds, but there is no where else to get gluten free cheese curds so, they know they can up charge on that one! (the cheese curds were pretty awesome, by the way)

Last night was the third time I tried out Wauwatiki. Arrived and it was pretty busy. Hostess had originally said 15 min wait but they got the two of us down at a table within 5 mins.

We were sat more towards the back of the restaurant and we had to keep our jackets on because of a super chilly breeze. The table next to us kept their jackets on too and we joked with them on how cold it was.

Despite serving another table that was sat down after us our server did get to us within 10 mins. Very nice and kind.

I was told to try the crack fries earlier in the day from a friend of mine. They came out cold, hard, and a few burnt black on the edges. Sure that’s not the normal but I was disappointed. The drinks are fun. Lots to choose from. If you have gluten allergies you’ll really enjoy the menu here. Mac n Cheese with the jerk chicken on top is awesome. Don’t bother with the wings though. $15 for 8 smaller sized wings/drummies. Not enough flavor. They aren’t as good as they use to be here.

Was thanked for coming in on the way out which is always nice.

Let’s see, overall cost for two… you’re looking at 4 drinks, 2 dinners, and 2 appetizers about $95
$113 with tip.

I also find it interesting just how confrontational the owner gets with some of the reviewers here on google. It’s just not worth it. Half of them have a lower IQ than the cost of one of your themed drinks!

I have had to change my review of this place from 5 stars to 1 star. We went last night, and our food was awful. The jerk chicken sub had no flavor and was cold. I know it wasn't just a one-off thing because three people ordered it, and they all said it was bland. Our cheese curds were all melted together. I don't know what happened to this place, but we will not be going back.

Celiac and other Gluten-Free folks, THIS IS IT! All those times when you went to a bar with friends and couldn’t eat the fries or the cheese curds or the chicken wings… they are in the past!

Wauwatiki’s is an all gluten-free kitchen that features all of your favorite bar food… and it’s BETTER than at most places!

Topping off the experience is a smart, fun bar with unique drinks that would be worth it alone. My wife has celiac and she’s downright giddy everytime she steps foot inside Wauwatiki’s. Enjoy!

Service is ok. (This review is based on an earlier visit) We were seated inside on a nice sunny later summer day. Which in WI we know is a rarity. There was seating outside and I suppose when we were indifferent about our seat preference we thought we would have been placed outside with the rest of the other guests. We weren’t. We were placed inside. The cocktails were fine but the vibe inside just wasn’t what we were looking for. It’s dark and stagnant. We’ll come back for the drinks but only if we can sit outside.
