We chose Wendigo to do the catering for our wedding down the street at The Lageret and all I can say is WOW. We never expected to be able to create our own custom menu and it was so much fun to work with Cale and Leslie through the process. We did multiple tastings and revisions to our menu and they were there with us every step of the way. I've never seen more people rave about the food at a wedding and it was so special to have our guests taste our favorite foods and flavors. You can tell how passionate they are about the food and tailoring the experience to you. We are simply blown away and can't thank Wendigo Catering enough for all of the hard work that went into our wedding.

I honestly love the food, great flavor and portions. The service is an issue. Really rude staff on multiple occasions. I will no longer go because of how rude staff is...no food is that good to deal with people being mean.

The Cannibal burger is what keeps me coming back. It's amazing. They have a Gluten-free bun for the burgers... but they do NOT have a dedicated fryer (like Google claims). The only side they have that's Gluten-free is mixed greens (salad).

Love this place. New menu adds some new items and keeps many favorites. Nice unique beer on tap selections. Had salmon croquettes appetizer (special, not on menu) and they were good. New eggplant napoleon sandwich was amazing!

My husband and I had Wendigo catering for our wedding at the Lageret in Stoughton and it was absolutely phenomenal. Andrea and Cale were so incredibly lovely to work with. They were flexible and helped us create a menu that fit our vibe. They were able to accommodate all of the dietary restrictions of guests with no problem. We chose to do family style dining for our wedding and it worked perfectly. The food was fresh, hot, and plenty! We had amazing main dishes, sides, and appetizers that kept everyone at the wedding well fed and happy. We heard compliments about the food all around. The Wendigo team went above and beyond and even helped stage and stock our Pittsburgh cookie table throughout the event (this was no small task given that we had >2000 cookies). Our wedding was so incredible in part because of this amazing team and their delicious food!

We hired Wendigo to cater our wedding a few weeks ago and we were so happy and impressed with the food. We did family style and there was an abundance of it, and all of it was SO delicious. Our guests were raving about how good the food was. And the catering staff was so kind, quick and efficient and always checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed and wanted. We really enjoyed our tasting as well and meeting chef Cale. We are so happy we decided to go with Wendigo for our catering. Would highly recommend them! Thank you, Cale, Leslie and team for giving us exactly what we wanted out of our dinner on our wedding day!

Wendigo catered me and my husband's wedding and we could not have been happier. Wendigo is one of our favorite restaurants in Dane county and their catering does not disappoint! Our menu was seasonal and tailored to our wishes. Their services are professional with extremely kind chefs and staff. I am so happy we got to have such amazing food at our wedding and I would recommend Wendigo to all people looking for wedding catering.

Update:
We had Cale, Wendigo and his team cater our wedding. The menu was customized for our wedding and our guests raved about the food. The price was great!! Overall, we loved working with them and would again for our next catering event!

Definitely worth a stop if you’re in Stoughton. The menu is creative and we’ve enjoyed our meals each time we’ve eaten at Wendigo. The cheese curds are delicious, the Kale Caesar changed my life and thoughts on Kale in a salad. The egg in the salad isn’t something I would initially lean towards, it now I can’t go back - it’s so good! The chicken tenders and French Dip were delicious and each of the meals we have tried have been top notch. The simple yet funny worded menu is always a plus when choosing what to eat. I also greatly enjoy their beer selection and Apple Old Fashioned. Can’t wait to try more food and drinks from their menu during our next visit.

We booked with Cale and Wendigo for both our wedding day and our rehearsal dinner. We cannot say enough good things about Cale, the staff, or the food here. Everyone was extremely pleasant to work with. They took the time to get to know our likes and dislikes and created a fully custom menu for our meal. Food was a very important part of our day for me - and I thought we were going to have a very hard time finding something that was so good it would be memorable, but we found that easily with Wendigo! Everyone loved our meal and my mom still talks about the ravioli!! We cannot recommend them enough!

We are big Wendigo fans, especially their fish fry. But last night was the strangest experience we’ve ever had there. The first time we got our cheese curds, they were empty of cheese….just fried breading and a puddle of cheese and oil at the bottom of the plate. My fish fry was soggy, snd the coleslaw was so different from what they normally serve. It came in a paper southern fried chicken container and was also not the best tasting. The service was great as always, but the food was so disappointing.

Great atmosphere and art, awesome craft cocktails with infused liquors. Creative menu with some occasional minor issues on execution. Wish they could get a guitarist on that stage and someone to tickle the ivories and this would be top notch. Well worth your time to visit.

Cool place with a little bit of a narrow unique and more sandwich/burger type menu. Cocktails were creative and although a little too sweet for me, I had the Beast Modeno. Get this, cherry Bourbon, lemonade, Chambois (I think it is a type of Beer) and Balsamic Vinegar. It was so good.

Service was a tad slow, but friendly and likely not normal. Overall, a cool unique menu you should checkout.

I generally love Wendigo food, but some dishes are just too salty. I'm not sure why restaurants feel the need to use so much salt (so we drink more alcohol?). If we all ate less salt, we'd be healthier and live longer and be able to keep going to restaurants. Win-win!

This is a review for Wendigo catering. (We can't find a great place to review the catering side, and other places seem to reference the old name for the catering business, Indulchi).

Wendigo Catering was a great choice for catering our wedding. We appreciated the opportunity to do a complimentary tasting at the restaurant before making a commitment, and we really enjoyed being able to give so much input into the menu. The food was great and leaned into seasonal ingredients, which we really enjoyed. We also wanted a great vegetarian option, and they came through on that– we had family members who would not have considered a vegetarian meal in most situations saying the polenta dish was very good. We were looking for something a little different than a conventional wedding meal, and their menu was exactly what we were looking for. The prices were very reasonable compared to other options, and the team did a great job on the day of the wedding and everything went smoothly. The only drawback was that there were a few times leading up to the wedding where it took a while to get responses or information so the communication was slow, but that doesn’t change that we would very much recommend hiring them for a wedding.

Scary cat pictures. Creative menu offerings.
Catfish should be chunky not flattened - couldn't find or taste the fish. Grits-squash and ginger green beans are great.
Stew could also be chunked meats - seemed more like a chili.

I was befuddled by Wendigo. We ordered the corn chowder. It was on the menu under "friends" which I thought meant it was for sharing. The chowder came in a soup bowl but no spoons were provided, and we were left attempting to eat it with forks. Eventually we ordered a side of bread to dip in the chowder which made things a little better. I also ordered the BBBLT which was listed as having "baby bella bacon." When the sandwich came there was no bacon, just mushrooms. I asked the waitress and she indicated that the intention was for the dish to be a vegetarian BLT. That's all fine, but I encourage Wendigo to remove the word "bacon" or clearly indicate it's a vegetarian sandwich. I will note that they took the BBBLT of the bill without me asking, which was very nice. All in all, a very weird experience.

This is actually more of a review for Wendigo's catering rather than the restaurant specifically. We hired Cale and Wendigo for our wedding catering, and we had multiple people tell us it was the best wedding food they've ever had.

The process was incredibly fun, as we worked closely with Cale to create a custom menu based around what we wanted to eat and therefore what our guests would be excited to eat. Doing a tasting at Wendigo with Cale was a great way to kick off working together.

Everything went very smootly during the wedding. The serving, the food, and the overall process.

Additionally, the price was incredibly fair and reasonable. We found the prices to be comparable to, if not better than, more catering-focused companies, and getting that along with the custom menu from a local restaurant was outstanding value.

Our server/host seemed angry we dined there. Gave us attitude, moved at a snails pace, didn’t bring us water after asking, we weren’t able to get refills on our drinks. Had to go to the bar to ask. Legitimately didn’t check on us for 40 minutes, had to ask another server where our food was.
Food was ok, won’t go back based on our server alone. The bartender and other server were nice.

We arrived and almost every table had a reserved sign.
The staff was very friendly. We sat right away and the menu looked delicious. We tried the beer battered curds to start. I recommend at least 3 people share this. The crust was very unique and curds are. Big.
* I had the Phorench Dip
Shaved beef, pickled jalapenos, sriracha aioli.
* My wife had the Ghee Whiz
Marinated chicken, tomato chutney, raita.
* And Mom got the Acorn Squash Pot Pie
Lentils, Pears, Sage Cream, Butternut Squash Salad
We all tried each other's dishes and they were phenomenal.
Moms squash pot pie was very interesting it was made in the squash and not in a pie crust. The crust was on top. I found it yummy and a great vegetarian option. As a non-vegetarian, I would have ordered it.
For drinks, we their specialty, Apple Cinnamon Old Fashioned. It did not disappoint and we had 2 each.

You def need a reservation on nights they have a show at the Opera.

This is a small, quiet place. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the service was good overall. Friendly waitresses.

The cheesecurds are absolutely amazing! They're some of the best I've had. The breading is perfect, and they have the right amount of cheese.

The greenbean casserole, in my opinion, was not that great. It's one of the worst I've had, but again, that is just my opinion.

Good fried cheese curds, well above average (4 stars for food). Real cheese curds in large pillowy shapes. On the firm side, but not too firm and not too soft. Creatively battered. Suitable dips.

I was knowingly served a room temperature NE IPA without warning. I would have been charged for it without apology had I not said something (0 stars for drink & service).

Only a few patrons were in attendance on a relatively slow evening, but our order was somehow misplaced and not put in after we'd already been there about 45 minutes (0 stars for service).

Our server did apologize and made efforts to make up for those mistakes (taking the warm beer off the bill and bringing us a complimentary plate of plain fries shortly before our orders came), remaining pleasant and friendly (3 stars for service).

Poutine:
Gravy was way, way too salty—almost inedibly so. Topped with basic shredded yellow cheese instead of squeaky white cheese curds. Mushrooms were plain. I'm sure some people enjoy that poutine, but as someone who's had many poutines, this one was, I'm sorry to say, not good (1 star for food).

My friends' sandwiches varied from tasty to lacking (3-2 stars for food).

The cheese curds were the one redeeming factor.

Overall, it was an overpriced and underwhelming experience for ~$30 individually; and even more so, considering how the establishment has a nice space inside and out and presents itself as a slightly more upscale place for the town. Would do well to either back up that presentation with improved food and service or to scale down prices and patrons' expectations. Without a change in one of those directions, I wouldn't return.

We are camping at Lake Kengonsa State Park, looked for a close place for dinner and found this (11 min drive). Wow what a great little find!!!
Started by sharing a savory baklava. Never had anything like that before but WOW so tasty.
Then it was food-a-palooza! 4 of us ordered different things and shared bites so I got to try different things.
Wendi sandwich - grilled sliced rib eye sandwich with Havarti, onions and some sauce. This baby was delicious, I didn’t want to share but did.
Cannibal burger - ground bacon, pork, beef and tenderloin! holy cats this was the best burger I’ve ever tried. The bun! The sauce! So good, highly recommend!
Fried tomato sandwich - I originally wanted this but wanted meat. My friend ordered it. Next time I will get this, it was so good and you don’t even miss the meat!
Fish fry - only thing I didn’t try but my hubby and crew said it was very tasty.
Mac and cheese - not creamy but very tasty and worth ordering.
Oh - why I gave the “service” only a 4.
Our waitress was AWESOME, very nice, prompt, all you expect. But we got a bit of an inquisition when we walked in for some reason: “Do you have a reservation? What time? Who seated you?” It was super weird. The restaurant was not full, I could understand if it were. But it wasn’t and we were there to eat and drink. So seat us and let’s go, lady! That’s the only reason I docked a star on service. Be a little more welcoming when people come in, eh?
Overall so awesome and will 100% go back again. Maybe even tonight 😂

Highly recommend this place!

Table of 4 for an early dinner around 4:15p on a Thursday. When we arrived there were only 2 other tables sat.

Beautiful interior and clean.

Food was very good.

Service not so much. Our original server seemed to have moved on from our table and only checked themselves twice(to sit us and then to give us our check). Waited 15minutes before finding our server to let them know we were ready to order our food and drinks. The woman who brought our food out was extremely rude when we simply asked for silverware to eat with. Rolled her eyes and gave a very unfriendly scowl with scoff and then proceeded to take 5 minutes to return with said silverware. We had to flag someone down for water refills and again was met with a reaction as if we were putting them out by asking. Would have also ordered another round of drinks if we hadn't felt so unwelcome.

Unfortunately we will not return due to unfriendly service.

Overall, we've loved the food and service. My husband reserved a table for my birthday, and 4 people cancelled on us on our way there, so very last minute. We told the host as soon as we walked in the door, and a change in the seating was made. Another server very rudely told us we should have called (as if 5 minutes would have made a difference), as they had to turn away other possible tables - all while 3 other 4-tops were very much clean and open (not including our recently released partial table). Our server - not the one who made the comment - appeared to be the only one still waiting on the entire dining room, was graciously kind, and the sweetest. She made the experience better, but I left a tad sour mood for what was supposed to be a celebration. As a previous server, I understand the crunch, but would never have said that to a table.

Four of us for dinner (with a reservation). We chose it because it a) accepted reservations and b) online rating.

The restaurant is light and airy and tables are spaced enough apart. Advertised as a farm to table, we had an incorrect impression of the food (that's on us); we thought "healthy, fresh, herbs and natural flavors highlighted").

Every food item we ordered, with the exception of the desserts, seemed drenched in grease, oil or butter. The cheese curds left a pool of grease on the plate they were served in. We had to pull out napkins from McDonald's, a lot of them, to manage the grease (when we asked for more napkins, we received 2). The sandwiches: bread drenched in oil or butter. Meat was tender. The dried vegetables.
Worse than the cheese curds. Soup: luke warm and coagulating, separating, not a lot of flavor. The desserts: the salted caramel cheesecake was ok- the nuts on top must have been put on early and then put into a fridge and sat there for a while as they weren't crunchy, they were mealy as if they'd been wet. The chocolate cake was delicious. The selection of wines was not great. The beers that were sampled were enjoyed.

Our server struggled with remembering order substitutions, drinks ordered, being friendly (she was listing dessert and someone from our group - after she mentioned 2 desserts, started to say we will take both, because listed on the board were only 2 desserts. Apparently there was a third and she said "will you let me finish?" And she wasn't kidding. She brought the desserts with dirty dinner dishes still on the table.

They may have been short servers. There were two people and a bartender. The restaurant wasn't full; there were at least 1/3 of the seats empty at any time. Assuming they had cancellations or no shows because two women were told they would have to eat at the bar because all the tables were taken and it was not full at all during our 1.5 hour stay.

We had eaten at a restaurant earlier in the day, same street, viking in the name, I think, and the food, and service (and drinks), were outstanding. When we head to town again, that's where we will be spending our money.

Such unique entrees, each executed to perfection! Fish fry, baked fish, fried tomato po'boy, the Hey Hey, sweet potato fries, and mango carrot slaw. Even the cocktails were special, as was the flourless chocolate cake that was warmed and served with ice cream and chocolate syrup - yum!

Very enjoyable. It was unusually busy Tuesday (1/23/18) but the staff did a great job. Update....Sept. 18, 2022 - Sunday noon lunch... new menu...delicious...not busy at all.

Wendigo keeps delivering on atmosphere, friendliness and good food... I am so grateful to have a place that I can find gluten free and dairy free food that is consistently great!
Kale generously makes adjustments for my allergies and I’ve never experienced cross contamination Over all the years wendigo has been open.

I really only bother to write reviews when a place is actually exceptional and Wendigo definitely fits the bill. What a surprise treat! We were heading to Brooklyn to watch a friend play music and needed dinner. Figured we'd just have to deal with random bar food, but then stumbled upon Wendigo. Online reviews were good, decided to check it out. Super cute, hip space without being pretentious, locally sourced seasonal menu with great tasting and good variety and portions, very reasonable prices for high quality, unique dishes. The place was hopping with Friday night dinner, but we were seated right away. Service fast and very friendly. We had the poutine, kale Cesar salad, and roast chicken with squash and yummy couscous risotto. Too full for dessert, but it's definitely try the flourless chocolate cake next time! Worth the drive from Madison, better than most Madison restaurants, too. Thanks, Wendigo! :)

Yummy fried tomato sandwich and green salad. Nouveaux American cuisine. Great beer selection. Vegetarian friendly. Buys from local farms. Fresh and delicious. Right on Main street. Open Tues night when most other restaurants nearby are closed. 40$ sandwiches and beers for two with tip.

We rented out Wendigo for our rehearsal dinner, and it was honestly incredible. The environment was warm, eclectic and classic, the drinks were yummy and flowing, and the FOOD. Wow, the food was absolutely delicious and such a fun menu that they put together for us. I heard the best things from my mother-in-law about how the staff helped in the lead-up to the night, and I just couldn’t recommend them more for any event or just dinner. Can’t wait to dine in when we’re back in town, thank you Wendigo!

Even though the four of us were some of their first customers, they were out of 3 of the meal selections from a fairly limited menu. The Thai Chicken dish was so hot from Cayenne pepper it was inedible & served as a sandwich not as described. My chicken & squash dish was nice but over salted & had carrots instead of squash. The atmosphere is great and our waitress was friendly and attentive, too bad management did not do their part to prepare for a busy night.

Place was crazy busy tonight.
My initial food order sold out, so I switched to choice #2 - Phorench Dip...normally I love this, but tonight this sandwich was pushed with very thin layers of meat and extra fill with extra fries to hide the lack of meat.
I don't mind choice #1 being sold out, and I would much rather tell the customer that choice #2 is sold out vs skimping on product and pumping filler.
I'll be back soon.

Came at a busy time but was worth it. I got the Cannibal burger (Cuz Wendigo 😏) so far my favorite burger from a local business. They also source items on the menu from local business as well, this is important to me. It shows they give back to the community. Staff was friendly even with the hectic atmosphere, next time I come I'm definitely going to have to try some of their signature drinks (I'm looking at you apple cinnamon brandy).

THE CHEESE CURDS WERE LIFE ALTERING. I turned to Jake and I said, "the angels in heaven are singing rn. This is just as life changing as my antidepressants. these are the best cheese curds I've ever had." You get the picture. I was having a bit of a downer debbie evening, and this food took me from cinderella in rags to cinderella in a princess-blue-meet-your-prince-mood. I loved how the menu was straight to the point and unique. I felt like I was able to try something familiar and new all at once. The food was so delicious...wonderful and fair portions for the price. I tried one of their specialty drinks, and it was delicious. I can't say enough good things about this place. We will definitely be back.

During the pandemic, Wendigo is one of those local restaurants that my wife and I have made sure to continue to support. The food is phenomenal - high recommendations for the cheese curds and Phorench Dip. The Phorench Dip might change your life. Definitely worth the 30 minute drive from Madison (drive is beautiful, too).

It’s been a while since we’ve been in the restaurant because of COVID (just doing pickup). What I can say from past experiences is that the wait staff is really helpful, the atmosphere is chill, and the beer list consistently has local gems. Absolutely worth the trip. From what I’ve seen when picking up food, social distancing of diners and mask use are top notch.

CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD AFTER VISITING WENDIGO. We had dinner here on 08/21/20 and our bill with tip was $83.93. When I reviewed my credit card statement I noticed that they charged me $100.00 extra for a total of $183.93. Makes me wonder how many times this happens and goes unnoticed by their patrons.
