This is a great place for fresh fish. Cocktails were good and reasonable and our food delicious. Be prepared to wait, we arrived a little after 4:30 and had about a 20 minute wait but were able to sit at the bar and chatted with locals. If we are in Oshkosh again, we will eat here again.

I used to go to Wendt’s when I was younger with my family but haven’t been in years, so my husband and I decided to go for some fish. I am not one to typically leave a bad review but this establishment is NOT what it once was.

When we first walked in we were greeted by a friendly young lady who sat us quickly. No complaints there. But when seated it took a while to get help. They were busy, we understood. When the waitress did come she was friendly and joked around with us. The dining room itself was uncharismatic, the rubber flowers on the table were..something on top of a very old and sticky feeling tablecloth.

It took too long to get our drinks, and I ended up going to the bar to get them. the bartender was very standoffish and did not acknowledge me with any sort of friendly greeting. He seemed as though he would've rather been anywhere else. Eventually we did get the drinks and the waitress took our order.

The Prices weren't very cheap, which is expected at a super club so that didn't phase us initially. I ordered perch and my husband ordered half poor man’s lobster and half cod. The lobster was chewy, dry, and fishy, while the breading on his cod was soft, no crisp, and very bland.

During our meal, A woman who I assume was a manager came out speaking to the staff in a seemingly unfriendly manner, which left a bad taste in our mouth as this staff seems very young. It was a busy night so we understood focusing on business, but the high prices, poor quality, and overall attitude we witnessed has changed my perspective for the worse of a place I have good memories with my family at.

Place was packed for EAA Oshkosh week but the servers were very attentive & efficient. 30mins til we were seated inside. Eclectic place. Food was good. I enjoyed the grill salmon - wish they served it with rice and vegis though. Got baked potato and a roll instead. Dgt had chicken fingers and husband had huge haddock sandwich- this was so juicy and delicious. The clam chowder was ok; but cheesy soup was very creamy and delicious. Most of our items were clearly pulled out of a frozen food bag and deep fried. The only redeeming item out of the onion rings, seafood platter and shrimp plate was the perch which was good. Both of our drinks were different than what was ordered. Picked this place to cross off our supper club map and the map maker should seriously consider removing it. I can make a much better meal for significantly less than the $87 bill. The sole bright light was our amazing server Alice who was delightful and hustled around all the tables

Great view of the lake. There’s an area behind the restaurant where you can walk out onto the pier and along the beach.
I had the perch. It was tasty. It wasn’t busy at all, just me and one other table, yet the service was a little lacking. I had to wait 5 minutes to pay my bill because no one was around.

We walked in for lunch on Friday afternoon. Greeted by friendly bartender. Sat at our table. One large table with people and a table with 4 people were there. That's it. Waited for our waitress. When she finally did come over she placed 2 menus on the table and walked away. No hello, no smile, NOTHING. That was a complete turn off right there. Watched her tend to the small table. She got them their water asked if they wanted to order drinks from bar right away. Watched her walk back up to the bar and get their drinks. Then she stands there and waits for bartender to make them! Another waitress was tending to the large table. We decided to leave and go to T.J Harbors which was packed. Our waitress actually had vocal cords and a smile AND we were given water even though she had several other tables to tend to. Such a better experience.

We came here as a recommendation from my Mom and her Husband. We were able to try some good food, mainly the fried Perch & Walleye, which are not allowed in California because they are more worried about the trout & salmon there 😕!
But I have been telling my girlfriend how good both the fish and cheese curds are and now she has gotten to experience them firsthand!

Went there on a Tuesday afternoon. Got a table by the window overlooking the lake. Ordered the haddock sandwich, fries, and a salad. I have to say thank you to everyone at Wendts On The Lake, Sponsors and volunteers for hosting the Youth Small Game Hunt that my son was able to participate in. We visited Wendt’s on a Friday night, so the place was packed. Without a reservation, we were told to expect an hour and half wait for a table. Luckily two spaces opened up at the bar!!

Some friendly locals told us about their drinks: Old Fashioneds that were ordered “sweet” or “sour.” We chose the sweet with brandy and the sour with whisky. These were served in tall glasses with ice. They were light and refreshing on a summer night.

Wendt’s is known for fish so my companion ordered the seafood trio and I had the perch and lobster. Both were very fresh and tasty. The lobster consisted of small pieces that didn’t taste like lobster so I asked about it and was told it was “slip” lobster. After a quick Internet search, I think it is “slipper lobster.” I ate it all but felt a bit deceived, like it was false advertising.

Wait time we were told 10 to 15 minutes, we were seated within 10. But we were there a little after 5pm on a Friday. Only two of us though and we got a corner table. I learned that you never want to go there for dinner on a Tuesday. They have some sort of a huge raffle thing that goes on Tuesdays at 6 PM and people come in there a couple hours early and park their rear ends at a table to sit and wait for the drawing. If you are the poor sucker that comes in and just wants to get a meal you end up standing there forever while most of the tables have a bunch of people sitting there, not eating and not even ordering anything. The waitresses apparently have been told they could not ask people to leave who were occupying a table and not purchasing anything. Other than that the food is great and you could probably go there any other night than Tuesday and be thrilled.

Wendts has THE best perch fish fry and service of anywhere on the planet in my opinion. They have been a family operation since the beginning and that is obvious in the way they treat guests and how will kept their restaurant is, always. The perch is perfect - lightly battered that lets the fish shine and doesn't produce a stomach ache because of too much grease. Add to that the great lake view, charming cabin decor and bar, and you have the winner! I've had lots of fried fish in a lot of places and nothing is as good as Wendts.

Family made reservations for birthday. We were given a limited 1 page menu. Most wanted Haddock and we were told no Haddock upon arrival but did have a baby Haddock sandwich. It was not busy at all. They did not know how to make my drink and asked me about it. The drink came and was not good, not mixed and ingredients were off. I took it to the bar and politely told them it did not taste right and was met with grief and some rudeness from an owner bartending. I just asked for a different drink from their menu which tasted ok when I got it. I felt very uncomfortable the rest of the time I was there as I sat with my family. We ordered. My sister could not get a baked potato, waitress said they were out of that too. I asked if I could get the cherry chicken sandwich ( not on 1 pg menu but regular chicken was on it. I was told no, sorry it’s not on the Sunday Funday menu. All they would have had to do was put the cherries and mayo on it. We ordered appetizers. The dip for them never came. When waitress came back, we asked and she said they were out of the dip and one of us asked for different dip even though she could have asked when she brought the apps out if we wanted different dipping sauce. Still not busy at 5:30-6pm. After supper, we were asked if we wanted dessert. Ordered tortes. Another staff came and said we are all out of this and everyone just wanted to cancel their desserts bc it seemed like family members 6 could not get what they wanted. We did manage to get some kind of torte ( very small for price) It was yet another disappointment on the restaurants behalf. I felt very bad bc our father was trying to take us out for a nice meal and he entrusted Wendy’s to be a good restaurant like it was in the past. I just don’t think it’s the same anymore. If you can imagine what this meal cost and the fiasco of not getting the food you wanted to get here then maybe go elsewhere. I know that I personally will not be going here again. The worst part is being treated rudely and not making the customer feel welcome in your restaurant.

We've been customers for well over 30 years, and we love Wendt's lake perch dinners. We often order takeout due to customer volume. Let me tell you, the service has completely gone downhill since Linda retired. We've learned to just drive to the parking lot and call in our order because if we call ahead, we get cold food. Not only on a Friday, this happens during the week as well. We literally wait until the wait staff is done socializing to get our order that is dying in a corner. Doesn't seem like there's any management for the employees.
