While the atmosphere, location and service were great, the food wasn't up to the standard I was hoping for. After having ordered a Mountain Dew to drink and finding it to be "under-syruped" and lacking in flavor, I mentioned this and asked for a Pepsi instead, only to find it the same. Either a consistently improperly mixed soda gun, or a deliberately under syruped gun to save a buck. Either way I was disappointed.

As for the food itself, I ordered the $22 steak sandwich and fries. The steak was tender and cooked right, but the bun wasn't toasted and fries were way over salted.

None of this is terrible, but none of it is mind blowing either. If I stopped in after an hour or two at the bar, this would easily be top-tier food, but as it stands, it's an okay lunch spot with some great vibes.

Went to this place with my mom. The waitress was talking about us the whole time. Don't even know who this cray cray is. We ordered three things and the bill was 50 dollars. Gave her a tip we could afford and she gave us dirty looks and started talking more smack to her co workers. Don't come charge us a ridiculous price for lame food and want a huge tip. Tuesday night at the Westsider diner is “girls night” but Wausau doesn’t know it yet, with a female chef and female bartender, tunes were playing and we were all trying to keep up, “When the lights go down in the citaaaay” it was nothing short of a ton of fun. Obviously there’s other genders that work here, so if you come on a Wednesday you may see one. Let’s move on to the cuisine. Lobster roll as a special? - it was fantastic. Real 🦞 lobster! Damn it was great! You’d be a fool not to come and try it. On tap they have a some great options, but what’s important to note you can get your spotted cow. Iykyk. Lastly they got pie 🥧 what’s not to like. Some say this is the best spot to get a margarita. Hint hint. For atmosphere, you got local artists’ work strewn about, and it’s for sale. I’d take a picture of our meals, but there’s nothing left! So now that we’ve established that the food is delicious, let’s talk about the rest. The Vibe is perfectly chill, music just loud enough to hear but not the star of the show, live plants and flowers everywhere on the patio - it’s a place that makes you feel good. This was our first time visiting Westside Diner. The food was delicious, the staff were very friendly and made us very comfortable, like we had been there before. My husband and I had New York strip steaks, potatoes and asparagus. Everything was delicious!!! Loved the seasonings and mushrooms. They buy the meat locally from a butcher. Cozy little spot with all the booths filled, I walked and sat at the bar at 1145 on a Tuesday and was eating by 1210. The tables turned over relatively quick too.

I got the Red Hot Spicy Clucker with fries and it was really good. Not crazy hot, figure like a mild hot sauce. The picture says it all, she gone!. The pepper pickle de Gallo was something I've never seen anywhere and it added a nice taste to the whole sandwich.

Seasoning on the fries was good to.

Also got a piece of blueberry pie that tastes like my grandmother made it.

Not great, staff did not greet me when I sat down. Just stared at me and was too busy to gossip with another server for a good 15 minutes. The cook did not wear gloves nor did I see him wash his hands before cooking my food. My spouse's fish fry was burnt with hardly any fries. Upon walking in from the neighborhood entrance, we immediately loved the vibe. Great old building with a nice 50’s diner feel. Not a large place, more of a cozy spot. My SO’s drink was well made, not a heavy pour but not short pour either. I had a beer and whiskey. The cheese curds were underwhelming. For $10, I expected a house battered curd. I had the M&O burger with onion rings. Burger was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. This thing tasted amazing. The onion rings, again underwhelming, would have loved a house battered ring. My SO had the steak sandwich, again well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The potato salad, tasted generic. The peach pie we shared for dessert was delicious. The crust was flaky and the filling wasn’t overly sweet. No ice cream but the whipped cream was good on it. Our server did a great job even though she got really busy about 1/2 way through our meal. Overall, they do a great job but a few little tweaks would make this a gem in the community and make the experience worth the price point. Currently pricing is a little high for the experience.

Found my new favorite for breakfast! Was craving veggies with my eggs so I got the Herbivore skillet and it was absolutely delicious! It was seasoned perfectly and wasn't watery which can happen with spinach and tomatoes. I was only able to eat half as the portions were quite large. Very cute, well-decorated bar/restaurant with high wood ceilings, bar-side grill, cool light fixtures, and a decent menu. Had a great mushroom-swiss beef patty melt and my husband had a tasty steak sandwich with an adequate portion of very good onion rings for $2 extra. Their fries are shoestring potatoes so don't ask for them crispy. We had a small, unremarkable (but not sickly sweet) piece of blueberry pie.

We didn't see tables for more than 4 people, just tables & booths for 4 & the bar. There is a covered outdoor dining space in the back.

We had good service, even though no one was particularly friendly. It was a decent experience, and we would definitely try it again.

My family and I were back to Minneapolis from the Cabin in Rhinelander and searched for a breakfast spot in Wausau. Glad the Westsider popped up first. They have an all around great breakfast menu. My family enjoyed each dish they ordered from the Cinnamon French Toast, Biscuits & Gravy, Pancakes, to Eggs. The Chef/Owner even came over to compliment me on the Prince Symbol sticker on my car and I returned the compliment with having Prince on their wall. Highly recommend this place. Came for a weekend trip from Minneapolis and loved this place! The decor is cute and clean (retro without being overly nostalgic), the outdoor seating pleasant (full coverage roof, only some sun creep into the later afternoon). The service was friendly, they use locally butchered meat products and feature other local businesses in their specials. Nice community vibes. The Plain Jane burger was one of the best patties and overall good diner burger (hearty, not greasy, good meat, good bun and add-ons) I've had in a while and so I would assume the other speciality burgers would be solid as well. A person in my group had the Caesar salad, and while some of the lettuce wasn't 100%, overall we had a really good meal. I'd definitely recommend this place for their diner standards, and look forward to stopping by again and recommending to others!

Stopped here for the first time for lunch. We had the pot stickers for an appetizer. Needed to cook a bit longer, the center on some weren't very warm and were almost cool. Flavor was good and so was the dipping sauce. I had the hot chicken sandwich. Flavor was good, no heat. Fries had good flavor, were crispy when they were hot but got soggy quickly. My wife had the fish sandwich, that was very good. Loved the inside and setup of the place. Was very warm and welcoming. Service was good. Only downside to the service was our server spoke quietly and she was hard to hear at times.

We would go back, but I think we would try breakfast next time.

Honestly? Cheap, delicious, beautiful. With an average of 12 dollars per meal I think this place will become a little hang out spot for myself. Very cozy. Friendly seating for solo guests and the design is very pretty. Would recommend, especially the kind service

Being an out of towner, we Google searched a place for breakfast. The first place we choose looked shady, so back to Google we went. Westsider Diner popped up.....so we headed over. Upon walking in we were instantly greeted said we could choose wherever to sit. There were only a few spots open. Our waitress was super friendly and quickly realized we we had racing in common and we knew each other's crews. Our food arrived......and FAR EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS! IT WAS SIMPLY AMAZING!!!!! I believe the owner was also the cook. Who was engaged in him entire team!!!!

Thank you Westsider for an amazing breakfast we will definitely be back!!!!!!

The best baked fish I have ever had!!!!!! Finally found bake fish that actually has flavor yummm. My husband got the fish sandwich with onion rings and they were both equally amazing.

Friendly service! The food was very good! We ordered The Kallaway Burger which was a specialty burger was outstanding! Also ordered the Thursday special Thai Chicken Noodle Bowl! Oh my! It might be in my top 5 Thai dishes! The heat on that was just right with the peanut sauce! Yummmm!

WOW! I was reluctant since so many other businesses have failed to make this property a go. But after hearing so many wonderful things about it, we had to go see for ourselves. We were not disappointed.

The food is amazing; it was prepared before our eyes with meats from the local Zillman's meat market. The layout is unique and the interior design quite trendy. Art is displayed for sale on the walls and a couple of mounted TVs for entertainment. There is one table for 6 in front of the sidewalk window, 4-5 booths, 2 high-tops, and 2 U-shaped wrap around diner-style seating. There are also a few seats at the bar.

We came in on a Saturday around 10:30. Hubby ordered French Toast to hold us over until they began serving lunch at 11. Then it was time for Bloody Marys and Modelo chasers. I ordered the M&O Burger (caramelized mushrooms and onions over a patty with cheese) and hubby ordered the Westsider (fried egg, bacon, and cheese over a patty). Even the fries were delicious!

Next to how clean this place is, I most enjoyed how the servers and cooks interacted - more like friends than co-workers. Summer [Breeze], thank you for the amazing service! Guys, the food was everything we had hoped for. You all made a great first impression. We'll be back!

Friends, keeping in mind this is a diner, and not much can be done to expand considering the location... big groups may be tough to accommodate, there is no parking lot and resides on a one-way street in a mostly residential area, and I think (but did not confirm), the restroom(s) are downstairs. Also note there is breakfast time and everything else time depending on when you arrive. I highly recommend a Bloody Mary if you need to hang out until they switch over to lunch/dinner.

Today was my second time at Westside diner. The first was visit was for dinner. The food was not remarkable but not bad. Saw at that time they did breakfast. Today was that breakfast. The service was extremely disappointing. She definitely gave off the air that we were an inconvenience. So unfortunately when the bacon I ordered tasted like it had gone bad, to which my husband agreed and I told the waitress so she could tell the cook staff, she didn't even listen to the whole conversation. She just turned and walked away to another table without saying a word. We won't be back. Which is sad because we love to support small businesses.

Usually I wouldn’t order egg rolls at a cafe, but I’m glad I did as they were excellent. Burgers were fantastic. Will definitely try to stop here again next time we are in Wausau.

I’ve been here a handful of times for dinner, and twice for breakfast. The dinners have always been good, and the veggie egg scramble was good too. The oatmeal is served plain, with fresh fruit on the side. It was very bland; no raisins, craisins, walnuts or brown sugar added, and I think gourmet oatmeal would be in-line with the rest of the breakfast menu here. Also, the coffee is always served lukewarm, which makes it not as enjoyable as it could be. Overall, it is a nice local place to get something good to eat. There seems to be too many chain restaurants in Wausau now, so I’m glad this opened up!

Atmosphere! This is such a cool take on a diner I hope they do fantastic. I went once and decided to make that visit ritual. They have incredible art everywhere and very down home friendly staff. I will 100 percent be bringing my friends and family.
