My favorite entree is the smoked pork chops. Only a salad wedge with 3 homemade dressings (best when you mix all 3 and add blue cheese). Also they only have baked potatoes for side. Unique experience...GO! Must make reservations.

I drove up from Hickory NC to meet some local friends and do some grouse and duck hunting. In my travels, I asked a local to Rhinelander where is the best place to eat. They gladly told me about The White Stag, so I had dinner plans! Upon arrival they were super busy and I had to wait for a few minutes for a table. The staff was so overly attentive to my needs and very friendly. So much so that Tracy even discounted my drink, which was a special of the night, the Brewer Mule. It was AMAZING!!! Once I was sat at a table, Jessica was my waitress. She was phenomenal. She was so patient in explaining everything, as it was my first time and she was 10000% spot on. The salad and custom homemade dressings were to die for! The steak was cooked to absolute perfection and the mushrooms were a must have addition. To say it was fulfilling is an understatement. I learned that Tracy and Jessica were mother and daughter, with their husband and father as the grill master. This family has sustained the restaurant for over 70 years!! Wow!!! What a testament and winning combination. This was the best whole meal / dining experience I’ve had that I can recall. I highly recommend 100%. You Will Not Be disappointed. It was an honor to enjoy such an exquisite meal steeped in family value and resilience. Well done!!! ✔️🤌🏼

Had a Porterhouse Steak and my colleague the Pork Chops. Additiowe took a Shrimp skewer to share.
We both liked the food and where happy. I think it's one of the few best choices in the area.
The dressings for the salad where homemade and remarkable.

It was terrible. Absolutely burnt so bad for the first time in many years I had to send it back for a new steak. This was just as bad I think the Chef has a really bad attitude. I would not wish this on anyone. Oh, this person is full of it... the Old Fashioned was horrible 😢 Stay away.

Good food in the Northwoods. Steaks are cooked over open coals in the main dining area then served on a portable grill to your table. Not a huge menu. Supper Club vibe. Be prepared to wait an hour or more.

The White Stag has been a special place for me since I was a little girl, and stepping inside today still feels like a step back in time in the best possible way. The decor, the menu—even the smell of the place—is nearly identical to what I remember, and now I get to share it with my own kids. It’s truly a highlight of our trip every year.

If this is your first visit, you’re in for a classic supper club experience. For families, here’s a tip: have young kids split the 9oz brochettes (it comes with a baked potato), and everyone will be happy. I had the chicken “done Dave’s way,” and the kids ended up eating quite a bit of mine too—it was a crowd pleaser. And whatever you do, always order the side of onion rings.

We like to come right at 4 for drinks at the bar—such a fun way to start the evening. Seating begins at 4:30, and we’re usually out the door by 5:45, giving the kids just enough time for a bit more fishing before bedtime.

If you like Wisconsin Supper Clubs this is a great place. All the food is grilled and served with a baked potato, rolls, and a wedge salad with homemade dressing. The cottage cheese topping for the potatoes was delicious. The meat was cooked just as ordered. Beers were only in a can or bottle. Thought the items were reasonably priced for what we got.

The salad and dressings were yummy! We had brochette and Filet. They didn't taste like great beef. They used to. You're method of cooking them is the best. Just not a good steak anymore. Our server wasn't around enough. The old fashioned cocktail was overloaded with bitters. We've been coming here for many years. Not so much anymore.... the romance with this beautiful supper club is coming to an end.

I ate here for the first time over 50 years ago and loved it. It's great that I can still order the same meal that I had back then and it's still the same and just as good. The salad is the best with their home made dressings and the onions are amazing with your steak. Still my favorite restaurant.

★ 4

The salad was pretty low effort. Just a head of plain iceberglettuce cut into several large chunks. The salad dressings are homemade, but the "Caesar" dressing doesn't contain any anchovy, garlic, or cheese, leaving the salad a somewhat disappointing experience as an appetizer

The bread rolls were hot and crusty right out of the oven.

The steak was superb. It was fired over a hardwood lump charcoal fire and served with au jus. It was cooked to a perfect medium as ordered.

The baked potato was also skillfully cooked, omitting the usual foil that restaurants seem to like using that turns them into an unpalletable soggy mess, which was a pleasant surprise.

They would benefit from being lightly coated with olive oil and sprinkled with salt before being baked for crispier skin.

The mushrooms and onions were likewise fired over the charcoal and then basted with butter imparting a glorious flavor.

Overall, it was a decent experience. I would have liked to have seen venison on the menu and would have certainly ordered it if it were, but that's something of a rarity in wisconsin in my experience. Its absence does not detract.

My family has loved the Stag for years. The food is notoriously great and I absolutely love the atmosphere. They recently appointed a new chef, which had me nervous until I went this past weekend and had the best strip steak I think I ever had. This supper club was recommended to us for a recent trip. I am giving 3 stars based on the total of each part.

4 stars - The bartender and my Makers OF Sour were excellent

.5 stars - The salad course is a joke. It was a whole head of iceberg lettuce quartered and served with 3 "house" dressings. We sampled all 3 and found all of them rather bland.

5 stars - The steak made up for the salad course. Our tenderloins were perfect (2 rare,1 med rare). The char grilled mushrooms and onions were well worth the $14. The only complaint I have is that there is no sour cream for the baked potato. They serve a blended cottage cheese and chive mix as a healthier option despite our server added 1/4 of a stick of butter to each. Weird texture for me.

Overall, the drinks and steaks are wonderful but the atmosphere and service (other than the bartender) was lacking. Personally for the price, there are other options to explore.

From the moment we wandered in, we felt welcomed. Carol made the best Manhatten and Cranberry Old Fashioned. We were seated, tended to, and served quickly and efficiently. We ordered Haddock, which were grilled to perfection in an open grill right there. The sauces, and salad dressings are made in house , and were simply delicious. We frequent Supper Clubs in Wisconsin, and the White Stag Inn is the best so far. As we were getting in the car to leave, the host ran out to hand me our dinners that I accidently left behind. That's great service. Thanks to all, Alicia, our server, and Tara the chief grill master for making it a 5 star evening!

Can’t believe it was my first time. My parents & their friends would dine here in the 70,80,90’s and didn’t bring us kids. Now, it makes sense. It’s a wonderful, cozy, wood paneled, vintage decor that speaks of a bygone era. This is an iconic Northwoods Supper Club with classic cocktails, tender charbroiled steaks, wedge salad with homemade dressings presented in a dressing caddy just like the way of classic steakhouses. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. We enjoyed mushrooms & blue cheese finishes. The chicken Dave’s way fell off the bone & was delicious. Next time I’ll save room for an after dinner dessert drink as in Grasshopper, Pink Squirrel. Told you it’s a cool throwback. If you appreciate a dining experience from a classic era & excellently prepared steaks, chicken, swordfish or shrimp, please give it a try. Maybe dress up a little & embrace the vibe? Leave the baseball caps & tank tops at home & spruce up a little! Enjoy!

Simply not the same as I remember from years ago. Service was very good. Staff was very pleasant. The wedge salad completely met my expectations. Charcoal grilled steaks. You can really taste the charcoal. They do things simply and they do it well. You get a wedge salad with three choices of homemade dressings. You get a choice of potato. They have one dessert , ice cream sundaes. The bar opens at 4:00 p.m., cash only for the bar, and then they start seating at 4:30 p.m. I had the ribeye which was very good.

This was the worst experience I personally have ever had at a restaurant. We were told the wait was 45 minutes, and we ended not being served food for three hours. Once the food arrived, it was mediocre at best and inedible at worst. The pork chop was so inedible, we could not feed it to the dogs. The waitress's attitude was terrible telling us, "lots of people wait 2-3 hours". I want to see these local restaurants succeed, but given the experience we had, I cannot recommend it to anyone.

We had an amazing experience at the White Stag last night. We were celebrating our anniversary and could not have had a better time and food was simply amazing!! We were with my sister and brother-in-law that we had a double wedding with. We started at the bar with a wonderful cocktail. We had Alicia as our waitress and she was perfect…attentive, informative and had perfect timing. We ordered the pork chop and ribeyes. The wedge salad with homemade dressing was so tasty. Had an excellent anniversary dinner at the White Stag. Dinner started with crispy iceberg lettuce wedges and their 3 homemade dressing options. The Ribeye and T-bone was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. The good sized potatoe was served tableside with butter and delicious cheese/chive topping.
They do a great job, but have a limited menu. Only baked potatoes....no fries, hashbrowns etc. Wish they had a side veggie option as a substitute for potato.
Overall, excellent meal. Would definitely return again!

We started with a couple of whisky old fashions. I had the salad, grilled shrimp, baked potato. Partner had salad, porterhouse steak and baked potato. Wedge salad was nice for something different. They make their own salad dressings, choice of 3. They serve your meal from a cart with the sizzling platter. She removed the shrimp from the skewer and put on my plate, cut and buttered my potato. A unique experience. We ended with a shared grasshopper, perfect!
The odd thing was the chef came out and reprimanded a customer because she sent back her steak for being too raw, then again because it was overdone. He was not quiet about it either. Rather disturbing.

Overrated and overpriced. There are much better options at way lower prices in the area. They are trying way to hard to be "something" and failed in my opinion... they bring your food table-side on a cart if that gives you any clue. Not sure what the deal is with the quartered head of lettuce they serve? I've had a wedge salad before and this is not it. My "specialty" wood fired pork chop had the expected flavor, but was overcooked and way too salty. Of all the delectable sauces you could choose to serve with these chops, the small cup of gelatinous whole berry cranberry sauce was an embarrassment.

This is a long time favorite Supper Club that has gone down the tubes! Very unfriendly waitress. Had a group is 11. 3 of us had stomach issues that night from the beef brochettes. Meat was gray and had a funny taste. The chicken came burned. As did the side of onions. Waitress yelled down the length of the table “who doesn’t want butter on your potato”. My husband was talking and had his slathered when he likes a dry potato. Would not split the bill or take cc even though their message on phone says they do. A very sad miserable meal. Will never go again. When I talked to the manager about 3 getting sick he was defensive. AVOID!!!

We had dinner here tonight and we left mostly disappointed. The staff were all nice, if not a bit 'frazzled', but the food left a lot to be desired.

The pork chops were off the charts salty (and I'm a salt fan), the chicken was dry (even the dark meat). The old school wedge of iceburg was actually kind of fun and the dressings worked with it.

The IPA I ordered was either very old or stored warm, it was quite oxidized and I was unable to finish it.

If it were 1987 I might be impressed by this place but it's 2023 and it seems to be stuck in a previous era.

No better supper club in Wisconsin. We stop here every summer when we are in the Northwoods. An amazing spot.

I got off work a a bit late tonight I drove 30 to make it in for a late night dinner on the phone they tell me to come on in if I got there before 9:10 they would serve me…..I arrived at 9:08 and the hostess tells me they will not seat me, “ the cook will not cook anymore” I wish you would have said that from the beginning, could have saved me a drive. I felt like they did not want my business because I was in my work cloths perhaps it’s a great spot, I just had a bad experience I was looking forward to trying that place out but this experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. will be taking my business else where!

Always liked the old supper club vibe and the homemade salad dressing. Tonight I had the worst steak ever. So full of grizzle could not even cut it. I know that it's possible to get a bad piece of meat anywhere at any time. The worst part was the waitress could care less. I won't be going back. 👎🥩👎

We love this nostalgic WI supper club. They don't serve relish trays but it has all the right feels.
Most items are cooked in the open grill in the restaurant. We always get the Kessler rippchen, we love it! The haddock is a huge portion and steaks are a great cut and typically cooked very correctly. The shrimp is outstanding. The opening salad is a wedge served with 3 AMAZING homemade dressings that you should always buy afterward :) the creamy Russian is incredulity smooth while the Caesar and clear French are tangy and great as dressings or marinades. Don't skip the onions or mushrooms! And make sure to load your baker with schmoo!

Overall phenomenal! Their food was delicious! The service was amazing! The environment was perfect! The wait was a little long, but well worth it!

The homemade salad dressings were incredible! Very fresh and great variety of options.

The rolls were light, fluffy and delicious!

The filet mignon and porterhouse were cooked to perfection and had a delicious char flavor! The prices were very reasonable and great value. I appreciate the price points they picked. You could go to a fancier steakhouse and pay more than double for slightly better quality meat, but I appreciate having a great cut of meat with a perfect sear for such a great value! Very impressed!!!

The baked potato was delicious especially with the unique cottage cheese, chive blend. I've never liked sour cream but wish I had another option with a similar concept AND this was it!!! I am obsessed!!!! The only problem is now I have no idea how to get this or make this to have it again. I will definitely try though!

So impressed with their cooking styles and their revolutionary homemade recipes!

As far as the service, everyone was just lovely and clearly passionate, hard workers! Everyone worked so beautifully together and it showed in the friendly, welcoming environment!

Thank you for everything! This is a must go restaurant every time we are within an hour of the area!

Came here for my birthday dinner while we were up north. My friend got pork chops which were super salty and my steak came overcooked then came back undercooked. The table side service was unique and enjoyable. The salad and baked potato may have been the best part of our meal. Service was fine and no complaints there. I wouldn't go back but didn't hate my meal.

Feels authentic in regards to a traditional supper club. I grew up in the nortwoods and loved going to supper clubs with Grandma. Food is very supper club north and friendly. Old fashions are yummy ( nutmeg?!). We actually saw a albino buck the day we went there. ( not sure if that is relevant, just wanted to share).

Travellers beware.
Pulled up for dinner on the road, had no idea it was trying to be Gordon Ramsey's kitchen. Forty some odd dollars for a single steak? Beautiful, all the same, but nothing inexpensive enough for weary travelers to buy and eat in a reasonable amount of time. The waiter did not even offer to find us something cheaper to eat when we read the menu. It's practically a suit and tie situation, in the middle of boondock nowhere? Went down the street to a bar and had some amazing burgers for a more reasonable price. People were certainly friendly to a few random MN guys in t-shirts.

Went for a late birthday/early valentines dinner after a day of snowmobiling and the whole dining experience was a 10/10! When we entered the White Stag Inn, it was like we were stepping back in time in the best way possible. Menu was short and sweet, and for good reason. If you know anything about supper clubs, you know that a smaller menu means they have mastered those options. Waitresses were all very kind and professional. We never had a dirty plate on our table or empty glasses. Steaks and all other items we ordered were cooked to absolute perfection. They made a dang good old fashioned and ice cream drinks as well (pink squirrel and grasshopper). Would recommend to anyone who can appreciate outstanding food, in a classic supper club setting.

My wife and I were there for Valentine's Day and had an outstanding meal. Both had the Ribeyes. We had been there before but had not gone in many years because the staff ( other than the waitresses) we're usually very unfriendly. Last night, the hostess and the bartender were fantastic!! We're not going to wait so long to go back.

Traditional & keeping true to their roots! That is the best way for me to describe this nostalgic WI Supper Club!
We went at about 5pm on Saturday, Feb 11th. We were instantly greeted with a smile & offered to be seated right away or a beverage at the bar. We opted for a couple old fashions before dinner. The bartender was very nice & attentive. While the old fashions weren't muddled they were still made very well!
Our waitress was very good too!
The menu was very limited, which is part of what makes the White Stag unique. By keeping a limited menu they have truly perfected their tried & true recipes.
We had Filet Mignon & Haddock. Steak was cooked perfectly to order. The Haddock was flaky & flavorful (no "fishy" flavor). We also ordered mushrooms & onions as sides which were also very good. The meal does come with a wedge salad...which was truly a wedge of lettuce. There weren't any fancy toppings, for the salad, just lettuce, although when paired with 1 of their house made dressings, you won't miss the extras!
All in all we truly enjoyed our experience & do recommend putting the White Stag on your Supper Club bucket list!

Great old school supper club vibe. Very limited menu, but that's usually an indication of the things they do have are done correctly. This was indeed the case. We had steak options as well as a fish option for our stop and they were well received. Salad was basic, but the dressings were sublime. Decor was typical for a supper club born in the 60's (best guess). Service was very attentive. Be aware that each soda is an additional charge. Old fashioned was the best my friend has ever had, and he's an aficionado. An additional seafood and chicken dinner option would be a welcome addition.
