When we want a meal we know will be delicious, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this is often the choice. More so if we are meeting someone from out of town we do not want to disappoint. The flavors all work. The service is always skilled, informed, and professional.

I find the minimalist decor crosses slightly over to "cheap" instead of understated, but it is a minor complaint.

Still one of my favorite restaurants. The Duck Fat burger is literally best burger I’ve ever had! There gnocchi was divine! Jessica M was professional and attentive. Little hidden gem. It’s a must try.

A quaint spot on the corner with several , equally good restaurants, near it. Our server was warm, inviting and very knowledgeable about the menu and the specials of the day. The worst part of the experience was trying to decide which entree to try. She says all their burgers are made with brisket which is an added twist. Cocktail selection was diverse without being too over the top. Our first time here, but definitely not the last.

This was my second time here, but my first time for lunch. I came with a couple of friends, with the goal of trying their highly praised Duck Fat Burgers, which were rated as the second-best burger in Milwaukee by Milwaukee Magazine. We were not disappointed.

It was a Wednesday, and we arrived a little before noon. There were a few other people there, some at the bar and others at the small tables. The place is a little loud, with lots of hard surfaces and music playing. We were greeted by a very friendly server, who seemed to be doing pretty much everything except the cooking.

There are a couple of different burgers on the menu, but we all went with the Duck Fat Burger. It is a one-third pound patty, cooked to order. My medium-rare came out exactly as I like it. The combination of caramelized onion, cheese, and thousand island was well balanced. The bun was nicely grilled, and the crunch lasted through the entire meal. The French fries were hot and flavorful, with a very crusty exterior and a soft inner texture. I talked to the cook, who let me in on the secret, they double fry them.

With the exception of the noise level, it was an excellent burger experience. The service was very good (thanks, Jessica). I will definitely be coming back again.

Just bought a house and wanted to celebrate. We had oysters as a starter which were fresh and briney. For mains we had a duck fat burger and Hanger steak Frites with creamed spinach. The burger was high quality meat with fabulous flavor enhanced by the duck fat. The steak was better than one I had in Denver ! Melted in my mouth. The fries were absolutely delicious especially dipped in the creamed spinach as our server suggested 😋
For desert we had a warm cheesecake that came with ice-cream. Cheesecake usually doesn't "blow my dress up" but this wasn't heavy but rich at the same time.
The atmosphere was lovely. The service top notch!
West Allis is blessed to have such a top notch eatery.
Thank you so much

Ordered the aged duck breast and it was just fantastic. Meat moist, skin crispy. Everyone else in my group got the blue gill fry. The coleslaw was loved and all said they would not order again. They were eyeballing my plate with longing. The staff here including the chef/owner and his fiance are very welcoming and outgoing. The restaurant was overwarm on a sultry day, leading to the wine I had with dinner being too warm also. This is a slow food restaurant so not a place to go if you're in a rush. After being seated, it took about an hour until we we got our food.

Loud environment. Took 40 minutes for appetizers. Over an hour for entrees. We didn’t have a reservation so they sat us at the bar and told us a table would be available shortly only they never moved us to a table. The whole time we were there 2 tables sat empty and one was still empty when we left. The woman who waited on us was nice. I understand they had a large group but that doesn't mean the other customers should suffer.

A delicious surprise in West Allis! I like to spend my money in Milwaukee, which makes me a little closed-minded about venturing into the suburbs for food. My wife and I decided to try Wild Roots at the last minute on a Saturday early evening - and it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The dry aged duck breast was outstanding. Perfectly cooked and paired with a celery root puree. The plating was beautiful and I hated to ruin it by mixing everything together, but the blend of flavor and texture by adding the carrots and sauce to each bite was worth it. I had to talk myself out of licking the plate clean. Topped it off with a fresh-made "pop tart" from Chef Thi - rhubarb/green apple. Glad we wandered over to Becher St. I will definitely be back!

Food was very good but on the smaller size - aged duck breast (a bit small) and mussels in white wine broth - extra small piece of bread was $3 ... it needs more bread for a classic mussel dish in white wine broth. The place can be very noisy at times - everyones chatter echos due to very high ceilings. Had cocktails - my husband's was at least double the size of mine ...

My friend and I were in the Milwaukee metro for an event a couple weeks ago and we went to Wild Roots for our first meal in town. It set the tempo and energy for the WHOLE trip! We had the duckfat burger and the Vietnamese curry and both were excellent experiences. Being intermittently in the area, I was looking for some activities we could do for our free day in town. Alizay was so so friendly and helpful- we came in closer to closing time than I would have liked but we were treated with respect and kindness abundant. We will absolutely be back for the fantastic food and atmosphere.

The restaurant is beautiful and the bar staff was friendly and quick. The server for our large party was difficult to hear due to the noise in the restaurant, and we had to ask her repeatedly to stand next to the person she was talking to. We ordered a pork chop and they asked how we wanted it cooked. When we expressed confusion about this the staff was condescending and unhelpful. Ultimately the pork chop came out very dark pink in the middle. When asked to cook further or replace it the staff was unapologetic and argumentative, asking repeatedly how we ordered it and emphasizing that different temperatures are safe to eat. The pork chop was reheated in place on the plate and came back overcooked. We were not offered a discount, a free drink or dessert, or even an apology. Many of the others in our party really liked their food so this was a disappointing experience. We probably won't go back.

There is a mismatch between the high price tag and casual atmosphere. We were seated immediately but had to wait a long time after ordering our entrees. The bulgogi meatballs were delicious, best part of the meal! I don’t recommend the cauliflower dish—the broth was good, but the cauliflower tasted completely unseasoned and the charred (burnt) flavor was overpowering. It was lacking some form of (vegan) protein or fat to properly round out the dish.

It was a nice brunch experience. I had the quiche special. The side salad was awesome and the quiche was ok not my fave. My daughter had two eggs sausage and toast. The toast was not brown and arrived with no butter. Butter came minutes after the meal was served along with silverware. The toast was cold. I just think the silverware and napkins could have been on the table ahead of time. I had to ask for salt and pepper. Things were just a little disjointed. I’m not sure how long they’ve been open but it seems relatively new. So, I will try it again just to see if things improve. Love the atmosphere

Stopped at Wild Roots for lunch on a beautiful Friday afternoon towards the end of September. Wild Roots has a condensed menu, and the duck fat burger stands out. It might be the best burger in Milwaukee. It’s certainly superior to the Oscar’s and Sobelman’s burgers. It makes ordering anything else off the menu difficult.

While the restaurant wasn’t crowded, the minimal staff had difficulty keeping up. In fact, our bartender might have been the only server. She worked her tail off.

I will return to Wild Roots and will force myself to order something other than the stellar hamburger.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Wild Roots Restaurant in Milwaukee with my girlfriend, and it was a positive experience from start to finish. The restaurant boasts a clean, modern, and inviting atmosphere that immediately sets the tone for a great meal.

The food was freshly made and delicious. We started with some nice appetizers and drinks. Bulgogi meatballs were an excellent appetizer. The white sangria was refreshing, and the locally made sodas were a nice touch. For our main courses, I highly recommend the burger made in duck fat and the steak frites – both were cooked to perfection and flavorful.

Service was excellent; we were seated right away, and the staff was attentive and friendly throughout our meal. One suggestion for improvement would be to offer a selection of tap beers, as they currently only have bottled options, which is unfortunate.

Overall, Wild Roots is a wonderful spot for a nice casual meal, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for great food and a pleasant dining experience.

Nowhere on the website does it say this restaurant does not serve anything from the grill in between 4 and 5pm. Basically everything is from the grill ..only thing I could order from the dinner menu was a burger. I went for the duck breast. I could not order it as I was there at 4:15pm. I got oysters. Good but tiny. A beet salad, not impressed. Served the salad to me on a huge piece of slate or something. I ordered the Duck fat burger and fries to go as it was my only option. With a tip I spent $73. Absolutely ridiculous. Did not compare to Heirloom or Good Kind. Drive to Bay view and spend your money somewhere amazing instead is my advice.

My husband agrees that the duck fat burger is one of the best he’s ever had! I love the vegetarian fat noodles they’ve had on the menu during the winter season, seriously mouth watering.. but pretty spicy (the Thai chilis they put in there are no joke and last time I was crying at the table for a good 25mins because I accidentally ate one), I wish there was a warning about that. Great food that exceeded our expectations, props for that. What lacked was the service and atmosphere. Our waitress didn't know much about wine, and we didn't see her much. And a table that had kids, let them do laps back and forth right behind us for an hour of our time there... Its a small place, Instead of one of the waitstaff encouraging that to continue, it would have been nice for them to atleast politely ask them to seat their kids. For the price, we'd hoped for a better experience for date night.

Came on a Saturday late afternoon with family and I was very happy with everything. I know as the waitress was taking orders I had knocked over my drink. She was very polite and reassured me accidents happen, she cleaned table off and got new silverware. The salad was good with some sort of vinaigrette which was lovely paired with the burger. The poptart was good though the edges were a bit burnt the filling was delicious! As well as pot de-creme was so light and creamy with blueberries and strawberries. I would definitely come back here.

Pack a lot of patience if you go here. Went there on a Tuesday night for my husband’s birthday. Food was overpriced but good. Of course, they were out of the meatballs (at 6:30?) so it started off on a bad note. It did not seem that busy. Gabby, our waitress could not tend to us properly. It took forever to get our dinner order in! Took forever to clear appetizer plates. No clue was she was doing but no sense of urgency at all. Once our order was FINALLY placed, again no follow up. We had to summon a gentlemen by the chef area to get her to our table to find out what was taking so long. The table next to us was served first which was odd. Our experience was a real debbie downer for a birthday celebration. No comped appetizer or anything for our long wait and terrible service. Most places offer a dessert to the birthday person, but none of that either. Gabby should not be training new hires that’s for sure. This place gets a major thumbs down!

Excellent food. We came for brunch and they could even accommodate a low sodium request for me. Great flavor and selection.

Inattentive waitress. Took forever to remove appetizer dishes. Never asked if we wanted a cocktail. Took over hour to get food. People next to us came later and received food first. Management could tell we did not have a good experience and said nothing. Food okay so nothing to rave. customers have been lost

Went to the Wild Roots for a business lunch.
The food was great when we finally got it. 1:10 mins it took to get the food we ordered.
There was only 1 person waiting on the guests and I think only one person in the kitchen.
There was only a hand full of people in the restaurant the whole time we where there.
We sat down at 11:55. 15 mins to get our order. And another 50 mins or so to get our food.

Excellent choice. A serene respite from the cold. Only had time for soup and dessert but we will be back. The soup was lovely, flavorful with fresh veggies, a well seasoned broth with a bit of a bite, and tender slices of meat. The dessert was simply a cookie but my oh my what a cookie, a real treat, brown butter, semi sweet chocolate, nice texture, fresh whip cream - the perfect amount of decadence.

We had a double date here last night, and it was spectacular. We started with the bulgogi meatballs and local artisan cheese tray. Instead of crackers or baquette, we received grilled texas toast, and that was a delightful snd tasty surprise. For entrees, we got the smashburger and thai curry (pictured) and finished with a brown butter chocolate chip cookie, which we scarfed down.
Service ☝️ was 5 star. The only feedback I have is to update online menus, as what was actually available was drastically different (I was hoping for deviled eggs, and another dining companion wanted the carbonara, but neither were available).

Plantain appetizer was crunchy with a very tasty topping. Duck was underdone, sent it back which improved it. It was ok. Vermicelli Thai curry was very tasty. Loved the fresh red peppers and other veggies and the creamy curry sauce was wonderful. A Pot de creme with fresh berries was good. The salt in the pudding was unusual. The cinnamon pop tart was surprisingly very good. Would definitely return and recommend. Very interesting menu.

A hidden gem in the corner of West Allis. With premium scratch cooking and a friendly welcoming environment, this place is a must stop. The fresh ground burger with egg on top was out of this world. Any restaurant that takes the time to hand prepare a burger for its menu is a absolute must for me, and Wild roots exceeded my expectations. A perfect example of a 80/20 burger that holds its own and melts in your mouth with flavor. Included in this fantastic establishment is a genius pastry chef who makes incredible homemade pop tarts that reflect seasonal flavors.

Honestly nothing to complain about the food- everything was great! Our server on the other hand… nice women but we hardly saw her. Our food took about 40 minutes and people who arrived after us were done eating before we started. She never apologized for the wait once- as well as we had some accommodations to a dish and she blamed that meal on it taking forever. She did not check on us after we received our meal and she must have not liked our tip because she scolded us as we walked to our car. She gave us a death stare 3 different times. Then proceeded to show the bartender what we tipped. That is honestly such an inappropriate thing to do when we can very clearly see you. Maybe if the service was better she would’ve been happier with the outcome? Don’t expect bad service and receive a good tip (tip was not even bad) Food was great would come again just not with her (don’t think she told us her name)

We came here with high expectations but it fell flat. The hostess and waitress we had were lovely. My issues are with the food. We ordered the charcuterie board appetizer and were disappointed. The cheese selection was subpar and slapped on a board, not even slices, they just cut a chunk off a stuck it on. The fig jam was thin and cheap, instead of seizing the opportunity to make their own bread, they just cut two pieces texas toast on the board. What should have been a perfect appetizer was a giant flop. The burger, which was what drew us there, was good. But it was as good as any other burger you can buy on that street. Honestly the thing I ended up enjoying the most was my salad, which was earthy and fresh. I don’t think the best item on your plate should be the salad. All in all this place seems overhyped and nothing special.

Nothing special. Was expecting a lot better with all the great reviews. Definitely not even close to the best burger in Wisconsin. Red oak restaurant in bristol is a way better farm to table restaurant than this. Wasn't bad but not worth the wait or the money.

Got the beef plate. Rice noodles were bland and there was very little beef. I finished and was still hungry. Food was overpriced. Their duck fat burger was exceptional though, enjoyed it. That made up for the meal. All 3 of us who ordered the beef plate was very disappointed, but apparently the curry chicken was good.

Had a wonderful meal with a friend last night! I had a dozen oysters and the Duck Fat Burger. It was the best burger I've ever had. She had the Roasted Red Beet Salad and the Hanger Steak with Spinach and she loved it. There are plenty of items to choose from but few enough that they can focus on them and make them amazing!! Atmosphere was great, plenty of people but not overcrowded, and our server was wonderful!

This year my wife and I decided tospend our anniversary dinner at Wild Roots. It was a fantastic experience. The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent. One thing I was very impressed with was the portion size. Some have said the portions were small, but I disagree. The portions were perfectly sized to leave both of us content but with room for dessert. It shows skill in the kitchen to design a menu like that. The Bulgogi Meatballs were incredible and I loved the Fat Noodles I ordered and my wife won't stop talking about the Duck Breast she had. All-in-all a wonderful experience.

The food here is outstanding. If you ever have a chance to go - do it! My girlfriend and I stopped in late on a Friday night and ordered two different burgers so we could try both. The staff was great- attentive, friendly, wore face masks, and respected social distancing. Throughout the meal several servers stopped to check on us.

The brisket meat used for both burgers was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The mixture of sauteed onions and cheddar cheese made the Duck Fat burger so delicious.

The clear standout of the night for me was the Smash Burger. Topped with crisp lettuce, tomatoes and a generous amount of goat cheese coupled with the meat put this burger on another level. The bun was crisp until the last bite. Hands down the best burger I've ever had.

This was the second time visiting Wild Roots and we continue to be amazed by it. Every Thursday they offer a speciality burger and I forsee a lot of curbside pick ups in our future.

Wild Roots provides a dining experience that everyone should have.

Great place, definitely some of the beat in Milwaukee. The meatballs were amazing, wish they made a banh mi with them, that would be a killer. The special was some stir fried noodles, amazing. So much flavor. The banh mi also good, and the carbonara too. The carbonara definitely feeling a little bland after the meatballs and stir fry but that s Asian vs Italian cuisine. I think on its own the pasta would be very good. Had a watermelon drink recommended to us which was great. Pop tart is good but not the highlight of this place imo. Hope to come back and try their other dishes.

Our first time here and we will definitely be back! All the adult bevs were great: Bloody Mary was exactly the right amount of smoky; bee sting was sweet & sour with a touch of heat; Stalli-mosa, ‘nuff said…the best was the watermelon-citrus-cava special. Summer in liquid form. I will be trying to recreate that. Our bartender, Gabby, was extra friendly, fun and super knowledgable (we asked a lot of questions) The crispy fried artichokes had an incredibly bold mix of lemon and pecorino and who knew lemon was what pecorino was missing. The Bulgogi meatballs were, legit, some of the best meatballs I’ve ever had. The sauce and kimchi were fantastic but the cook on the balls was so caramelized and perfect. This spot in Stallis is doing the thing.

Horrible place and very bad service. I thought i was in the place where the servers are paid to be rude. Pictures and reviews dont do the place justice. Waited 15 minutes for coffee, waited 45 minutes for food. Burnt sausage, breakfast burrito was very spicy even though i aske the waitress and she said it wasn't. I told her i couldnt eat it. She could have cared less. When are food was talking so long i reached out to another server she said your not my table just in case you didn't know that. Had to ask for salt and pepper and jellie. It was a bother to the server. Paid $16 for something i couldn't eat. Very disappointing

The positive reviews are warranted, the food is definitely tasty.

But also the negative reviews are warranted. It is a little loud and the service is extremely slow.

Reservations for dinner at 6:30, expecting to be done by 8, but was there until 10:30 (well after close) waiting for service. Only had enough service to get two poorly made drinks.

Had the duck breast. Requested medium rare, but server said it can only be done at medium. Definitely came out medium rare, but was also a little cold waiting on the counter for so long. Other dishes were fine, depending on when it was made.
