Have been coming to Conover for 35 years, and never stopped in while it was Wild Turkey Smokehouse. When I saw they rebranded themselves as a steakhouse and advertised as “the best steakhouse in Conover”, I couldn’t help but try it (fyi they are the only steakhouse in Conover). Went in with low expectations, but honestly everything was really solid. Pizza was great, the wings were incredible. One person in our party got the baked haddock, another a steak, everyone loved their food. They were pretty short staffed, but that’s true for all the restaurants in the area, so I don’t really hold that against them. We ended up eating there or carrying out multiple times on our trip. Bonus points for being open every day, which is a rarity up there. Kicking myself for never having tried it sooner!

5 stars so my experience will be noticed- TERRIBLE bartender service. I mean just awful. Took our drink order, gave us our drinks 20 minutes later… told him we were ready to order, he cleans his cups instead..

Honestly, I hesitate to leave a real review because I want to keep this gem all to myself…but this place is terrific. My only concern is that I seriously think they may be keeping a Michelin Star quality chef hostage in their kitchen. I mean, the wild rice alone should earn him a furlough.
Their brisket is KC or Hill Country competitive, the blue gill “appetizer” beats a plate downstate, I want to marry their Sunday night waitress, and my only complaint about their chicken dumplings soup is that they serve it so well that it’s still piping hot after I’ve taken a beat because it’s in that homey crock. They are professionals hiding behind a facade of Up North siding, and they are open 11-9, even on Sundays.

We love the food and drinks here. Staff very accommodating. Enjoy coming here. The point root beer on tap in a frost mug was delicious. Different beers and cocktails are good too.The sampler is awesome. You get grilled chicken wings, brisket, fall off the bone ribs barbecue, sausage and lots of fries for $30. Very delicious!

We came in on the 4th of July to escape the heat after parade. Bartender was hilarious and ran the whole show solo. My husband had his favorite bone-in wings and they were smoked to perfection which was unexpected. I got a bounty 2 pc fish platter Cajun style. It was all delicious!

We were recommended to this establishment from some friends. However, our experience was horrid. If I could leave zero stars, I would. Overall, the food was OK, at best. Service was painfully slow. The manager, Erica, is incredibly rude and unprofessional and has no business being a manager. We walked in and waited… no one greeted us. We finally decided to seat ourselves (two adults and five teenagers). In addition to tap beers and sodas, five of us asked for water. The server returned with some cups and a pitcher of water, which was not enough to fill even 4 cups. My husband went back to the bar for another picture of water, as our server was not around. The bartender, which we later learned is also the manager, rudely said that she was “too busy” to fill up our water pitcher and sent my husband back to the table to wait for our server. I should note that the restaurant and bar were both not busy at all! While our server seemed nice, everything took a very long time, from waiting for our appetizers, and then to waiting for our meals. In fact, our youngest son did not receive his brisket sandwich until about 10 minutes after the last person was finished eating their meal! We had asked multiple times as the rest were all eating, about the brisket sandwich, and kept getting the vague response that “it’s coming”. When it finally did arrive, it was very disappointing. There was a meager amount of meat on it, and it was lukewarm. My husband then asked to speak to the manager, and after waiting almost 10 minutes, we finally were approached by the bartender, Erica, who is the manager. Rather than listen to any of our concerns, she was rude and basically stated it wasn’t her fault. She disappeared once again, and eventually our server reappeared, looking to be almost in tears. She told us that the brisket sandwich was all her fault because she forgot to write it down/order it. None of us in our party felt that was accurate, as prior to her coming out, we all noted how meticulously she had taken all of our orders. In fact, when it came to this particular brisket sandwich, my son had ordered a side of broccoli. She was worried that they may not have broccoli and asked him for a second choice, just in case. The server finally brought us our bill and we paid. In the meantime, my children all noticed the bartender/ manager in the distance behind the bar, whispering to the patrons seated at the bar, and they were all looking at us! As we walked out, they all waved goodbye. I guess they were happy to see us leave?? But, how tacky is that manager?? If she worked for me, she would be unemployed. That’s no way to run a business and I can’t understand why any owner would keep her around!

Waitress was excellent. Food was pretty darn good, and the portion of up-charged fries was very large. "Light" fish dinner ($10) had two pieces of haddock and came with chips, but we both opted for fries. We prefer "dusted" instead of beer battered fish, so for us, this was perfect. It was served with buttered bread, cole slaw, a good-sized lemon slice, and tartar which tasted homemade in a great way. Soft drinks were refilled without us having to ask. This was our first visit, and we will definitely return. Keep in mind that almost every restaurant has had price increases. Because of generous portions, you will not feel gouged here. Dinner for two was $33 and change. It was a nice night out. Glad we have it a try.

The owners, who are veterans, hosted myself and a group of other veterans last night. Wow! Words can't explain how great of an experience was. Not only is the service and atmosphere incredible, the food is bar none, definitely recommended getting the shrimp and sausage on a skewer, but the people behind the operation are like none other. They are absolutely assets to their community. Keep up the great work! Wild Turkey is a must stop if you're up north.

We stayed in Conover for about a week, had dinner at the Wild Turkey twice, and it wasn't enough. The food was TOP NOTCH and couldn't be better. The panfish dinner with Bluegill & Perch was by far THE BEST fish dinner I've had at any restaurant, and I'm a fish fanatic and an avid fisherman. The walleye cheeks were a pleasant surprise to see on the menu, and they were spot on, just like how my Dad and I like to make them. My wife had the Ribeye steak our second night there, and it was amazing 10/10. The Brandy Old Fashions were some of the best! Our server was the nicest lady in town for sure. You definitely have a customer for life here, as we are moving to the area ASAP. Don't miss out on this place if you are in the area. Wild Turkey is a very nice steakhouse with a great bar attached to it. They even have a giant boot warmer at the front doorway for all the snowmobilers. A++++

Great food! Friendly staff. Had the pan fry fish fry with bourbon whipped mashed potatoes, so good. Generous portions, included 4 bluegill & 4 perch, coleslaw and rye bread. So good! We came here during our one year wedding anniversary since we got engaged in the UP. Diane (I believe that was her name) took care of us and provided great service. Completely changed a good menu. No more brisket no more sandwiches, no kid menu options. Why? Why change such a good thing. It’s a bar in Conover not a fancy steak house. We had to leave because we couldn’t afford steakhouse prices. We were there in May and the food was amazing with the smoked meats and kid options. Guess that is no more. You have to know your customers in a small town this ain’t it.

Loved this place, friendly and fun staff. We visited twice over our trip. I ordered the porter house with whipped potatoes and it was incredible. I highly recommend a visit if you're in the area they do not disappoint. Jill and Gary were phenomenal and incredibly fun. Menu was deceiving, haddock was listed with wild rice, wattress asked what is your side. I stated salad, she brought the salad. When my meal came it was just the fish, no wild rice. My understanding as stated by the menu that the rice was included.
Very disappointed.
The lemon pepper fish was very blah, the caesar salad had brown romaine lettuce. Very disappointed.
While eating, the waitress was rude to people without reservations, making them move, she seemed annoyed, the sign out front says walkins welcomed, they should take it down.
Very disappointed.

June, 2024 went in to dine and get their amazing smoked meats. The menu had completely changed to high end food and NO smoked meats. No meals served at the bar anymore. No salad bar. We were of many that walked out once viewing the menu and prices.
There were very few people there on a Thursday night. News travels fast! We are hoping they change back to the old Wild Turkey. The waitress said they were “trying” something new.

Stopped here when we were on our ice fishing trip, we were seated immediately and given menus by our waitress/bartender. I ordered buffalo chicken wings and a salad and my father ordered the chili. The salad and chili were on a convenient little soup/salad bar. Very good salad and my dad liked his chili. Then the wings came out, you could taste the smokey flavorings and the high quality meat. Hands down the best wings I've ever had in my life. Very nice waitress who tended to our needs, including giving us a sample of brisket and pulled pork. Thanks for the delicious food, Wild Turkey!

The food, as usual, was pretty good. The poor attitude of the bartender/ waitress was unbelievable. Who would have thought that it was a big deal to order poutin without brisket on it. Nobody else was there except for our group of 8. The service was very slow. Also, she never came back on her own to see if anyone needed anything. You would have thought that you had asked her for the world when we told her that we had a couple of pull tabs ( less than $5 ) to collect on. She very rudely informed us that she wasn't going to redeem them unless we brought them to the end of the bar. She just had a very bad attitude and made us feel like we were an imposition. Being a local customer, it seems that it is common for the staff to have less than a good attitude here. Having been there when the owner was berating, the staff with profanity in front of customers over the amount of cornbread prepared. Can't help but think that this attitude starts at the top.

We stopped out the other evening, we had heard great things. Absolutely did not disappoint. We were greeted by Jill who was managing a full bar and a few tables. She is a hoot! We tried out the brisket, wings and the burger with brisket all of which were delicious and the portions are huge. The wings were smoky and juicy, the brisket was perfection.

We stopped in on Tues night. There was a single employee working as a bartender, waitress, and table busser, and she was working her tail off to keep up with a full house both at the dinner tables and at the bar. Even with that happening, she kept things moving, and the wait time for drinks and food was well within acceptable timing. And that food....yum...it did not disappoint. The walleye fingers, cheese curds, poutine, pulled pork, ribs, smokehouse burger, and smoked brisket (so tender and juicy). The two bbq sauces had fantastic flavors, too.

This was the only place open when we got lunch. There was only 1 person working the whole restaurant and bar, not including the cook. Service was slow. The food was good, but the wings were not what was expected. No kids menu and not kid friendly.

Three weeks ago.
9 of us in our party. Ribeye dinner special was terrible, no original price advertised just $10 off. Three of us got tough chewy ribeye's along with French fries. Charged $40 each, went back the next day to say I didn't get the $10 off. Owner?, gave me $30 cash back. I said that's pricey, $30 for ribeye and fries? In a pm still guessing the owner wrote "weren't you offered the salad bar and didn't you also get beans and bread", nope didn't get any of that. A gal in our party ordered a brisket sandwich and was offered a bowl to go to the salad bar, her brisket sandwich came as the other 8 of us were ready to leave so she took her sandwich to go. Yes, we mentioned to the server when she asked how our ribeye's were, I replied tough, she replied "I'm sorry about that".
In a pm the owner, again, guessing it was the owner, asked me what I thought they could do better, I said have the server say something like our special this evening is our $40 ribeye dinner at $10 off. The owner then said for me being a Christian woman I was rude🤷 What????
She then asked what I thought I should pay for a ribeye dinner special, I replied, $24-$26, she came back with, "there is no way in the last two years I would have only paid $24-$26", I wanted to say I beg to differ with you. At this point I decided to un followed Wild Turkey .
By the way the cheese curds were smaller than tator tot size and dry and hard, couldn't find the cheese. So disappointed.

Disappointed. Ordered smoked chicken wings. Was brought literal chicken nuggets. Very strange since now I can see pictures of reviews with actual chicken wings. Not sure what that's all about but paid $15 for 12 small flavorless chicken nuggets. Poutine and brisket was good so husband was happy. Server was nice, just couldn't keep up with the demand. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. We were on vacation and stopped for some food. The server, Erica, was very rude and she's the one who cooked our food. She didn't even ask us how we wanted our burgers done. They were so raw I'd rather just go to the store and buy the burger and eat it out of the package than to pay $96 for 5 of us to have raw burgers because she didn't even want to take the time to actually cook our food. We were all sick afterwards. It was disgusting. Erica also never checked to see if we needed refills or anything. When I asked about the bill having different prices on there for the same items, she rolled her eyes and raised her voice with an attitude. If this is the way you treat your customers, I hope your business shuts down.

Ordered a taco pizza to go. The crust was so soggy and wet stuck to the cardboard I wouldn't even eat it to disgusted with it.

Place is pretty but doesn't matter if food and service don't align. First visit 45 min for a side of wings and fries. Puked it up 12 hours later. Next visit (only place open on Sunday) 45 min just for fries. Didn't have two guys ahead of me. Save your time drive further

My family was there during this past busy snowmobile weekend. Our burgers were great. My smokehouse burger was one of the best burgers I’ve had. Our sever was great. He recommended the the smokehouse burger. Speed of service was good but I could easily see it getting slower as it became more busy.

Over priced garbage. Not what it used to be. Paid 90 something bucks for 3 tiny $20 pizzas and some thick cut brisket sandwich with no flavor just tossed on a plain bun with a side of soggy barely seasoned fries. Whoever cooked this is losing the owner major business. I will never eat here again and I will make sure none of my friends or family waste a dime here. Go anywhere else, seriously mcdonalds is better. And to the owner. I hope you choose to get a new cook or your gonna go out of business...

I never had a bad meal here until tonight. The wings were dry, rubbery and tasteless. The ribs (not baby back ribs) were tough and basically inedible. A really cheap cut of meat poorly prepared. One Star because our server was nice. Won’t be eating here again.

Pit master should know dry brisket when they serve one. Seriously couldn’t cut it with a knife. I should have known when it was served with au jus. Place was kinda dirty. Server was very nice and offered to send it back but I never trust that decision. Overly confident to command the prices for that food. Salty too.

Extremely terrible service. The bartender was very rude the second we walked in. Ordered our food (sandwiches and appetizer) and waited an hour and a half until asking if it was coming out soon since it was busy and we didn’t want to bother her. She said it was busy and there was only one cook so she didn’t know. Everyone that had gotten there after us had already eaten and left. About a half hour after that she said that she never put our ticket in and we should’ve said something earlier. 👎

We brought guests from out of town to this restaurant for burger/fries type fare on a Friday evening. The restaurant was crowded, and in addition to the flat screens on every wall (I counted 9 or 10), the jukebox was playing LOUDLY to add to the sensory overload. We couldn't even converse over the noise. We were asked for the doneness we wanted for our meat, and one person requested that it be well done. It arrived rare and bleeding through the roll. My ribeye sandwich was tough and gristly. The other two orders of smokehouse burgers had a thick hunk of brisket or something on them, and were impossible to eat. A complete waste of money and a major disappointment when trying to treat guests to a nice meal. UGH.
In addition, I was very surprised to see small children seated at the bar for their meal. The place seems poorly run and not at all interested in providing a pleasant customer experience. They should make a decision whether they want to be sports bar for adults or a real restaurant.
