Had a wonderful dinner to celebrate my sister's birthday. I highly recommend the porkchops. They were huge and cooked to perfection. The baked potato was also massive. My partner had the ribeye, one of my favorites. She like her steak on the rarer side and they delivered exactly what she wanted.

Food was questionable. Steak was okay, but I was served a day old baked potato that was just reheated and salad was bad. Only two selections for dessert too. Service was good but the noise level was ridiculously high. For $150 I can find a lot better places close to my home.

The Wilmot Stage Stop was such a wonderful experience. We made a reservation for 4:00 pm on a Friday. The Stop opens at 3:00 pm for bar service and visits to the 2nd and 3rd floor. That was really cool.
Then, we headed down for a wonderful meal. I ordered, and thoroughly enjoyed, their homemade salad dressing on salad, lobster soup, ribeye steak, sautéed mushrooms and onions, and a baked potato. I have to say that their coffee is fabulous too.
Go, and experience a great meal in a 100 plus year old stage coach era inn.

This place is always great. Very cool museum upstairs, PHENOMENAL lamb chops. If you're unsure whether tog et a steak or lamb chops, go with the lamb. It is wonderful and perfectly cooked.
Get the garlic butter, mushrooms are great too. Awesome cocktails and adult milkshakes.
Staff is always next level friendly so very good service. This is our go to place for birthdays!

Everything was going great until out waitress told us her manager needed her to flip the table. We were still eating, still had two bottles of wine open, and hadn't even looked at dessert option. I have NEVER been asked to leave a table within an hour and 15 minutes. Especially when we spent 600.00 for four people. So our steak and desserts got boxed up, and our wine got moved to the crowded bar area to finish. Unacceptable for a place that calls itself "fine dining". Unless you inhale your food and plan on not visiting with the people you go with, don't go.

The steaks are great. Cooked to exactly how you want them. My favorite is the New York Strip. A baked potato with a chunk of butter the size of Greenland is terrific. The sauteed onions are out of this world. Their Thousand Island dressing is the best on the known habitable planets!

Tick Tock
Prepare to be harassed and bullied with their pre-allotted one hour and 15 minute timeline for dining.
6/26/25
Worst dining experience ever at Stage Stop, my former favorite restaurant for birthdays. Attempted to Catch up with my friend on his birthday for dinner that I have not seen for some time.
Despite having a reservation, I was disappointed. I've been going to this restaurant for 30 years. Now money hungry, prioritizing turning tables over a pleasant dining experience.
-Our server, Victoria, rushed us repeatedly, asking for our order five times in 10 minutes, sharing the next reservation time. Asked for a drink order at least 4 times. When I requested the manager, I was told this is their new operating procedure. Both the server and manager were unreasonably stern.
The server assumed a tip on a $135 bill and asked if I wanted change when paying with two $100 bills. Still left a $20 tip, should have left nothing.
-After stating I'd never return, the rudest female manager ever said, "Sounds good, sir."
The restaurant also had flies. 🪰🪰 🤮
We left before their next “stated”reservation time.
I will NEVER go back.
PS
My one star reviews are reserved for very special places…Stage Stop has made the all time, most awful restaurant….ever.
It’s their belief they can treat customers however they want with rudeness and condescension for even the appearance of possibly going over their predetermined one hour and 15 minute timeframe.
It’s also our birthday tradition to have ice cream drinks after dinner but I refused to spend a single penny more than 1 adult beverage each after how poorly we were treated. Cutting our evening short, arrived 430 left at 545.
Thanks Victoria and Stage Stop for
destroying our night out.

Amazing meal!
We had never been to the Stage Stop. While visiting family in the area, we took them out for dinner on a Sunday evening. We had reservations for 4 people at 5:30 pm.
The parking lot was pretty full but there was no line of people waiting for a table. We saw the host and checked in and were seated right away. There’s a bar area as you enter the main door (at the back porch). Then there’s at least 2 dining rooms, maybe more. We were seated in the one nearest the bar. We had a nice 4-top table that we pulled away from the wall a few inches as my wife and I are fuller-figured and that few inches more room is just right for us.
Our server came over quickly and introduced herself. Her name was Haven. She was quite pleasant and very knowledgeable about the food and drinks as well as the restaurant operation. We had all studied the online menu before we got here and knew what we wanted, so we ordered our drinks and meals all at once.
We had:
- Waters
- Brandy Old Fashioned x 3
- Pino Grigio Wine (Santa Margherita)
- Filet and Lobster Tail x 3 (one with mushrooms)
- Grilled Shrimp and Lobster Tail
- Salad x 4
- Baked Potato x 4
- Grasshopper x 2 (for dessert)
The drinks were great if you like a Wisconsin Old Fashioned (made with brandy vs bourbon).
The salads were simple and served with a small bowl each of Roquefort, French and Thousand Island. All homemade and all very tasty. A basket of 4 dinner rolls came out with the salad as well.
We LOVED the food. The steaks are chargrilled and were cooked (medium rare) perfectly. We topped each with garlic butter.
The lobster tails were very good. Smallish but priced accordingly. They were served with drawn butter, kept warm over a candle-based warmer. The shrimp were excellent too. Tasty and not overcooked. My wife and I shared her shrimp and my steak and each had a lobster tail. Worked out perfectly.
The baked potatoes were on the smaller side but quite adequate. A huge (about 1/2 pound) piece of butter and a small bowl of sour cream was brought out for our potatoes. Way too much butter and not enough sour cream. Haven brought us a second small bowl each of sour cream and it was just perfect.
For dessert, my wife and I shared a classic Grasshopper drink and my wife’s cousin and his daughter shared one as well. They were very tasty.
We can recommend anyone to eat here at the Wilmot Stage Stop and I look forward to eating here on our next stop in the area.

This place is a TRIP. In addition to dinner, you can tour their museum, including the "haunted" third floor, which has preserved guest bedrooms from when the place was a hotel. Teeny, tiny rooms with such small beds, yet Abraham Lincoln stayed here? It's amazing!
The food is solid. It is a supper club in name, but the menu is fixed: rolls, salad and meat/potato. That said, they do a good job on all the fixings. It isn't fancy but it is hearty and good quality. My only small gripe was that I upgraded to the aged porterhouse and it did not seem worth the money. The quality of my particular steak was not $70. If I were to go back, I'd definitely get one of the lesser steaks. My son had a NYS and it was lovely. Desserts are what you'd expect: big and delicious. Drinks are very reasonable. They even have some $5 wine by the glass options.

Dad / daughter night tonight at Stage Stop. We had two ribeye steaks, each with the lobster tail add-on. The food was good. The charcoal grilling adds some plus and minus to the steaks. But the bone in ribeye was indeed a nice aged steak with some good flavor. I appreciated that the lobster tail is butterflied and no digging is needed.
We felt a little rushed thru the experience. I was expecting to feel a little more of the history of being in a restaurant that dates back to 1848. We were out in less than an hour from arrival, felt like a generic dinner. The waitress, while helpful, sounded like she was always upselling.

⭐️ Review: Wilmot Stage Stop – A Steakhouse That Delivers (With a Side of Butter)
If you're looking for a steakhouse that doesn’t just serve dinner but puts on a performance, then saddle up and ride over to Wilmot Stage Stop. This place is the real deal — old-school charm, authentic character, and most importantly, steaks and lobster tails that redefine indulgence.
🥩 Charcoal-Grilled Perfection
The star of the show? Their charcoal-grilled steaks — rich, juicy, and deeply flavorful. Whether you go for the filet or the ribeye, every bite tastes like it was grilled with care and maybe a little reverence. And the lobster tails? Also done over charcoal, which gives them this subtle smokiness that makes butter almost optional... almost.
🧈 And About That Butter...
Which brings me to the butter. You don’t just get a ramekin — you get what can only be described as a stick of dairy-based courage. It’s like they looked at the lobster and thought, “You're going swimming.” I half-expected a lifeguard to show up.
🍸 Drinks Done Right
Of course, no supper club experience is complete without a proper Old Fashioned, and Wilmot doesn’t disappoint. Balanced, strong, and smooth — like the bartender's been doing this since Eisenhower was in office. And if you're not ending your meal with a Grasshopper, did you even really go?
Final Verdict:
Wilmot Stage Stop is more than a dinner — it’s a destination. Come hungry, come thirsty, and maybe bring a second stomach for the butter. You won’t regret it.
🕯️ Old-fashioned charm. Old-Fashioned cocktails. And a whole lotta butter love.

Steaks were just ok. I don't think they use any seasoning on their steaks they serve. I always need to put salt and pepper on my steaks when I get served. The rest of the food is delicious. It's just their steak, it needs flavor.

My husband and I visited last night. We loved every minute we spent here. The old fashioneds we started with at the bar were delicious. I ordered the lobster soup. My husband originally did not. He tasted mine and added it. Super delicious. The salad dressings were incredible. Great advice to try them all. The massive butter mound cracked us up. I ordered the chicken breast. Yum. My husband had a filet and added the lobster tail. Both were perfect. I'm not kidding. I've been to so many places where the steak and lobster were chewy. Not here. This place was A+ from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere. We will be back and will bring friends. Be sure to check out the 2nd and 3rd floors. Fun stories.

Saturday night dinner with my son for his 30th birthday. The food was unbelievable, the drinks all great, Taylor our server helped me out as I am not a steak person. Picked the filet and added a lobster tail with drawn hot butter. Added the sauted mushroom and onions on the side, but I ate those separately as the steak was perfect by itself. So I'll skip that next time. Bartender was great while we waited for out table. Grasshopper was just like we had in the 70s when mom would let us have a sip of hers. We split the Pineapple cheesecake for dessert for his bday song. What a great place, nit far from me in Gurnee. Would go again in a heart beat.

For the pain it was to get reservations and the price of the food you would think this place would knock it out of the park. If you show up without a reservation you are waiting 1-2 hours plus, with a reservation we still had to wait and if you cancelled there was an excessive $35 fee. The menu was limited and small. Steak had zero flavor and tasted like burnt, dirty grill on the sear. Potato was not seasoned at all and was just thrown on the plate. It wasn't even cut in half. Salad looked like something dumped out of a bag and the desert was a piece of frozen cheesecake with pineapple juice dumped on the top of it. It was underwhelming at best. The only good thing to eat were the mushrooms they have as an entree add-on. Would not recommend. I've eaten better meals at Logan's Road House. Definitely a disappointment.

Oh my goodness I’ve lived in Milwaukee all my life and never heard of this place! (This place is an hour away from Milwaukee) I love amazing food, historical restaurants and haunted places. This has all of the above. I couldn’t believe how great the food is, the friendly and outgoing staff, and the energy that I felt upstairs where the small rooms are. Please don’t ever change anything about this hidden (to me) gem! It is a very beautiful and magical place. These types of places rarely exist anymore due to them being turned into some money grab losing all of its soul. It seems like that warm and inviting energy that was had in the past when it was a hotel remains. There may be some disgruntled energies that still linger, but this place still tells its story. Will be back sooner than later.
And even if you just go for the food, it was amazing. No complaints at all. The butter and lobster bisque are to die for. Homemade French dressing was my favorite, but they bring out 3 homemade dressings to try. Steak seasoned and charred to perfection. No, not burnt. Cozy dining area, I could go on and on…

Just arrived home from my first visit to the Wilmot Stage Stop and needed to post this review. My evening started by being seated at the bar and an introduction to Andy, our bartender. Between his personality and mixology you couldn't have asked for a nicer young man to kick off our evening. On to our table and the lovely Leslie. Her enthusiasm, professionalism, warmth, and kindness were above and beyond my expectations. And the food? In a word..... PERFECT!!!! My filet, Lobster soup, lobster tail and baked potato and fries were stunning. I will now do my part as a spoiled customer and tell a hundred people how great this restaurant is. I took my parents out for their 61 year anniversary dinner. We had a great meal but our pre-dinner drink experience was very bad. The bartender Mark didn't welcome us or take our drink order when he looked directly at us. We flagged down a waitress to make us drinks. She was wonderful as well as our dinner waitress. We tried to get a second drink before our dinner. Mark nodded his head when I placed our drink order but never made our drinks after 10 minutes. We flagged down the other bartender to make ours drinks. I have experienced such poor customer service from a bartender especially at a high end restaurant. One bartender created a poor experience from the very beginning of a special celebration. The waitress made up for the balance of the evening. It was our first time going to stage stop in 20 or more years. I drove down from Green Bay. We were seated in the bar area which is not as good of experience as dining area.

One of a kind steak house with historically immersed museum experience. The oldest restaurant and tavern building in WI. Was an old hotel and has been maintained to allow guests to view rooms and historical artifacts. Our reservations were at 6:30 pm and we were finished eating by 7:10 pm. The flow of service runs like a well oiled machine. Not many menu options because they stick with what they know and are good at. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. Definitely recommend to visit at least once for the experience.

The atmosphere is great, you can feel the history. The food was good, served promptly. The portions were adequate. Haven, our waitress, was very nice, thorough, and made sure our visit was enjoyable and without need. The one thing that was the slightest problem was with a woman in our group, but that's on me me for bringing her moody self out in public. LOL

IF YOU LIKE A FRIGID DINING ROOM, SHORT SHOT OVERPRICED DRINKS, RUSHED SERVICE & OVERDONE STEAKS THEN THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!
On a recent visit we experienced all of the above. The dining room was freezing – not comfortable. It wasn’t just us – tables around us were also complaining to each other how cold it was. We don’t go out for fine dining expecting cold air to be blowing up our rear ends – (I’m saying that kind of nicer). Our Old Fashioneds were served in a rocks glass, not the conventional tumbler one would come to expect – especially in Wisconsin. The small rocks glasses were filled to the extreme top, thus when served were spilling and soaking up the bar napkin and getting our table sticky and wet. Also, it was served without a bar straw making it impossible to sip it down before lifting it to drink, thus causing it to further spill on the table and drip onto our clothes in order to consume it. This is just what we wanted on a Saturday night out. The drink itself was some bitters, cherries, an orange slice and a hint of liquor – if that - extremely short shot, undersized and overpriced - I say overpriced based on the lack of liquor. An Old Fashioned should be made with 1-1/2 ounces of liquor. I would be being generous saying it contained even a ½ ounce of liquor. Our service was rushed. We were not even half way through our salads when our entrees were being served, then without asking started pulling the half eaten salad bowls – absolutely tacky. Rushed as it was, they still managed to over-cook our steaks even though the menu touts to “order your steaks accordingly”. Tables should be checked on within one to two minutes after entrees are served. That didn’t happen, eventually our server returned to the table, never asked how everything was, she just wanted to push more drinks which we promptly declined as we didn’t need a second table flooding. Our service was colder than the dining room which was almost impossible.

Had an enjoyable evening. The waitress was wonderful and explained all the specials in full. Filet was done beautifully. Loved the old charm and the museum is a must.

I summer near Stag Stop and try to have diner their as often as I can. The food and service are always excellent. However the noise level has become a problem. My last experience was with a group of 8. The ambient noise level was a problem. Even the younger member of the group were unable to hear beyond the person right next to them. I'll definitely will continue to eat at Stage Stop but may have to find another location when we have a larger group.

Wow! It is back! We’ve been coming for 25 years and they went through some rough times - but tonight was the best it’s ever been! Service was fast - old fashioned was fresh muddled ribeye was super flavorful (blue cheese butter). Dressing still awesome - service was great too (thanks Jodi). So glad we came back

Be very careful. I ordered a $42 steak. The waitress asked if I wanted a bone in steak. I said sure. The bill came and it was a $26 extra. I asked the waitress why. She asked "did the steak taste good?" I said yes but why $26 extra for a bone I cannot eat, you should have said it was $26 more. I will never go back.

This is a unique dining experience. The restaurant used to be a place for stage coaches to stop for the night a century ago. The restaurant is downstairs. Upstairs is a nice little museum that dates back over 100 years.
Start with a nice dinner with wonderful service. I person ordered a filet mignon and it was right up there with the best steaks I’ve ever had. They always have specials that they let you know about before you order. They have a fully stocked bar for any drink you want, or choose from a short list of specialty cocktails. After dinner, take a trip through time and visit the museum upstairs.
The ambiance isn’t the same as typical steakhouses nowadays. More like a dinner club. Be prepared to spend a bit, but the food is definitely worth it.

First time for us at Stage Stop. We had the Wagyu steak and two lobster tails (1#)
Homemade salad dressings were very good. Lobster was flavorful, steak was tender and flavorful. Server, Mackenzie, was kind, patient, knowledgeable and efficient. Disappointment fell on bread basket that had two white, low quality rolls and average sized baked potatoes. We had heard so much about the large potatoes with butter slab.
Ours came w/o butter and with a $270.00 dinner bill we would have expected a warm mini loaf of bread or higher quality rolls.
Paper placemats and napkins were a bit of a turnoff . Bottom line, for money spent I feel there is room for improvement.

The steaks are huge and cooked correctly. There isn't much to choose from other than steaks and lobsters, so know that going in and you'll be set. They really try to upsell you on all the add one to the steaks too which got a little annoying after the 4th person. We didn't need every option spelled out for every person every time.

Wilmot Stage Stop offers a charming dining experience set in an old train station, complete with a museum upstairs. The ambiance is a blend of dated charm and pleasant nostalgia.
The food was very good, particularly the steak, which was delicious. Prices are reasonable, making it a great value for the quality of the meal. We celebrated my wife's birthday there, and they kindly brought us a cupcake, which added a special touch to the evening.
Our waitress was nice and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would definitely eat there again.

Going down hill. Have been here over 100 times, my husband proposed to me here. We have NEVER had a bad experience until today, our 22nd Anniversary. I cried because I was so disappointed. Other customers were complaining as well. They wanted us out before we even sat down to get someone else in the seat. Poor quality of food and bad service. What a shame. 😥

The food and the service was outstanding and after dinner the waitress brought us a piece of cake for our anniversary. And anyone that knows about the butter they asked if we would like to take it home
The lobster tail is now $13.95 for 8 oz add on the below 12.95 is incorrect.

Probably the best steakhouse in Illinois another one of those if you’re in the area make sure you stop in and get a steak went with a crew of 19 people. All the food came out of the same time and every steak was cooked to perfection. Bring your appetite. These are the way steaks are supposed to be cut and served.

A charming place with fantastic food! We made it a supper club experience by enjoying cocktails at the bar first, then having the most incredible dinner at our table: shrimp cocktails, steaks, lamb chops, lobster tails, mushrooms, onions, yes yes yes and yes to the garlic butter on top!! Then we headed back to the bar for Brandy Alexanders and other after dinner drinks. Don't forget to check out the museum upstairs- both floors!! What a lovely afternoon! 😍

The steak was sub par at best. Baked potato was very dry. Salad was so small, I had two bites and it was gone. Im not one to complain, but when I spend $120.00 for two people to eat at a steakhouse and I can make a better meal at home for a fraction of that, I had to leave this review. The last tone I ate there, three years ago, was also a disappointment. I decided to give it another shot after reading recent reviews. I will not be back a third time. Years ago it was a go to for my family and I, not anymore.

My wife and I went here for our anniversary and ordered lobster and a filet. Both of our meals were overcooked. Wait staff never once had asked how it was, was not around often enough to fill our tiny soda glasses, and completely ignored that it was our anniversary. When you're spending $150 plus tip on a meal for 2 and your menu is as limited as it is, you should be knocking it out of the park. We shouldn't be forcefully sawing through both our proteins with a steak knife and chewing extremely hard to get it down. When you're spending $150 on a meal you also shouldn't be in and out the door in about 30 minutes. It should be a dining experience, not a contest to see how fast our table can be cleared for the next person to come in. We have been to many different steakhouses in the area and this one is by far the worst.
