Every year my family and I take a trip to Door County for a few days for Fall Fest. Wilson's has become a place that we absolutely have to stop at when we are here, sometimes more than once! We love the retro look of the restaurant, we also love the ice cream flavors that Wilson's has to offer! The food is pretty good, nothing too spectacular in terms of flavor, but the food is always fresh and reasonably priced (compared to the other expensive restaurants in the area). My kids ask to go to Wilson's and they are always satisfied after dinner and dessert! The waitresses are also very friendly which is a huge plus! Wilson's, you have a customer for life!

We always stop here whenever we visit Door County. The ice-creams are unbeatable, and they have a decent menu for a quick lunch/dinner. Finding a parking spot can be a hassle at times, and the place is extremely busy, so there are definite wait times. The place, and ice-creams are not to be missed though. They have small jukeboxes along the seats as well, which gives the place a retro ambience.

We stopped here just for a small meal. There was a long line, but only a 15 min. wait. They were really good at keeping things moving. There were 2 lines. One for just ice cream. The other for food tables. Service was quick. The food was good. It was a good experience 😊

Service was not great. Our server was foreign but she was timely and got our order correct. I say foreign because all of door county hires from a foreign agency—there’s nothing wrong with that but I don’t think they are training their workers to standard. Owners need to spend time with their workers to ensure quality service.. The manager at Wilson’s was specifically rude, unaccommodating, condescending and unprofessional. She didn’t realize I was standing there watching her roll her eyes at me to her worker. I called her out and she acted like she was totally innocent. She needs management training and should be more self aware that she’s breeding poor work ethics among young potential leaders. Considering the price of food at Wilson’s I expected better service and an experience worthy of their long standing in Door County. In this case this owner did the opposite impressing her vile behavior onto young developing minds. Absolutely shameful.
DO BETTER. BE BETTER. AND YOU WILL RECEIVE BETTER.

Good food, friendly people, fast service. This is a fun and friendly place. It’s always packed when we stop and today I took the chance and finally stopped. It was too crowed for my husband and son so we ordered it to go. The prices were a little more than I expected on our sundaes and drinks. But the value on their Wilson burger meal was spot on!!!! My husband said his Wilson burger was great. My son was very happy with his chili fries. It’s was more than what he expected. We will stop there again.😊

The cutest little diner! Had the most hot and delicious reuben. I’m not a big root beer fan, but Wilson’s root beer was the best I’ve ever had. It tasted like a root beer float! We got an applesauce for our baby and I think we ended up liking it more than her. Best applesauce I’ve ever had 😅

The food was below average for the price. The decaf coffee was not good, another waitress came over a told us that they would not make another pot and would take it off the bill. Not what I was expecting for the price that we paid for the food. Felt like we were not welcomed at the establishment like others around us were. We will not be back.

First time eating here and I am immensely disappointed with the cold burger , slow service and poor customer service. The signature Wilson burger came out cold and flavorless .. cold fries and flat root beer.
How does this place get so many good reviews?
The food was awful!
The signature burger is a joke .
This is an overrated tourist trap!
The food is average . The decor is predictable at best … 1/2 star

The food is ok here. We got lucky and beat the rush and wait for a table. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Our waitress was very nice. Food prices are decent. A lot of people come here for the ice cream. Very nice atmosphere, even a jukebox. I would come back here again. The hours seem fluctuating, and ice cream is open longer than the kitchen for about a hour I believe. The ice cream is expensive, but when we tried to go back to get some in the middle of the day it was closed

Really good ice cream (and serving size) and pretty good food too. Tasty root beer. Everything in DC is pricey, and I didn’t feel this was any worse. Service was good, though they have some bizzare policies (e.g., drink and food orders at once, no free refills on fountain drinks, no substitutions, no ability to move inside if bees are bothering you). Will be back next year!

historical stop, but otherwise not worth the hype. Food is mediocre at best and the servers dont act happy to be at work. Actually miserable attitudes. They are known for a large variation of ice cream, but dont ask for a normal serving .... their 1 scoop is actually 3 and unless youre 12 theres no smaller options.

Coney dog with cheese and French fries is bland and a waste of money. Fries come with the coney but they are coated with coney sauce that only taste like a cooked bland bean; so the fries were inedible for me and cold too. The root beer is average for homemade. I’m a sprecher lover. Also patio full of bees; which is ironic since they added screens to help decrease the bees per the history menu. Weirdly , no dogs allowed on the outdoor patio! Also NOT BABY STROLLER FRIENDLY inside or outside. Unfortunately as first times we were shouted at soon as we entered the door of the diner with our sleeping infant in the Donna Stroller ( it’s a car seat with wheels attached and can be converted to stroller). No sign on the door about it and no hostess outside to inform us either. They were very rude about it even when he collapsed it down into a car seat they said we couldn’t have it inside. So we attempted to go to the patio and they yelled at us to go back out the front because it was a service area to the side door; if it was a service area they didn’t mind people going in and out of it to get to other booths, outdoors, or to the restrooms. Then once on the patio the waitress started to inform us of the no strollers on the patio rule when the woman from inside come out yelling about how we needed to put our infant in a high chair. We should have just left but I love old dinners. My husband didn’t order food since he was upset that we had to take our sleeping baby out of the car seat and take it back to the car. When he returned she was of course still sleepy and upset and she wasn’t her typical easy going self. The root beer was good but the bees were an issue so I used napkins and a hair tie to try and help. Then the coney came and it was so deflating as it tasted like a plain baked bean. No flavor. So due to the hospitality and then over priced bland hot dog we skipped the ice cream that was $$$ pricey.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone with young children or dogs. Maybe they have something else good.
Our waitress was kind and tried to apologize and thanked us for understanding and cooperating with the stroller/car seat rule. You could tell she knew how rude the woman was from inside the store to us. It felt like she was chasing after us to be sure we weren’t served with a baby car seat.
We also ate at 3pm on a weekday so it wasn’t crowded and the car seat fits under the table with its wheels like a chair. It’s. Ery compact which we love.
We do recommend the Ice Cream Factory as a better alternative to a long time running diner with ice cream.
Also they have plastic straws which was odd for being on the lake; so not environmentally conscious. Also the napkins are in a cute dispenser but you end up with so many trying to pull them out.

We stopped at Wilson’s earlier this afternoon while walking through town. It was busy, which we understood, but when we asked the hostess for a to-go menu she was visibly annoyed and rudely told us we could just find it online. I let it go, since they were clearly busy, and we had such a great experience last year — their classic cheeseburger was so good we ordered it two nights in a row.
Unfortunately, tonight’s visit was a huge disappointment. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger, which the menu described as being made with fresh mushrooms. Instead, they were clearly canned or frozen, and the burger itself completely lacked flavor. My husband ordered the breaded whitefish sandwich, which was even worse. The piece of fish was thin, still had the skin attached (which tasted fishy), and when he tried to remove the skin, all the breading came off with it. On top of that, the sandwich was mostly bun — maybe 25% fish to 75% bread.
Overall, after looking forward to returning based on last year’s experience, this was a real letdown. Between the poor service and disappointing food, we left very unsatisfied and won’t be back. :(

Definitely an ice cream shop first and foremost, lots of flavors and a variety of treats to choose from. We had root beer freeze's this time and they were absolutely delicious. It’s fun to stop at Wilson’s once for the tradition since you always hear about it, but the reality is it’s overpriced diner food with mediocre service. The shakes and burgers are fine, but nothing special, and the atmosphere feels more run down than nostalgic. Glad I can say I tried it, but I wouldn’t go back.

One of the best ice cream shops, if not THE best in Wisconsin. Ice Cream is delicious and the value is outstanding. The only downside is waiting to get served on a hot summer evening - but that's to be expected because it is such a great value. They do have a "take a number" system which really helps - we did not have to stay in line, just waited a bit. Extremely good business model!

Honestly the highlight of our door county trip and an absolute must-go for anyone in the area. With an extensive, classic menu, it would be hard to go wrong with choosing Wilson’s for a meal. Everything we had was fantastic (both the food and ice cream drinks), the service was great, and the food came out fast. Great ice cream. One scoop cone is generous portion. Reason for 4 stars is because it is so busy, they give you a number to get in. If you are only getting ice cream they didn't allow inside seating. You had to get ice cream to go, and hope for a bench outside or across the street. Not much shade. So, not the best experience and you can't get to enjoy the old fashioned diner inside. Great place, but not when it's busy.

I'm not sure why this place has such good reviews. First off, the burgers are average at best, nothing mind blowing. The service was okay, ice cream was above average. The only thing Wilson's has going for them is the aesthetics of the restaurant and a reputable name. Otherwise, it's an below average burger joint. Just go for the ice cream.

There is a bit of a wait as we went the end of July but the food and ice cream are worth the wait. It’s an old school diner feel and although busy the waitresses do their best to give a smile and accommodate you. I can’t wait for my trip in two weeks to eat here again. Definitely a stop worth checking out if you’re in the area.

I love this place. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The food is pretty good, but the ice cream items are amazing.

I'd recommend finding a creamery that makes their own ice cream and saving yourself the hassle for what's actually just Cedar Crest ice cream. Iconic setting, but disorganized system that kept us waiting outside with no updates for 20 minutes on a slow day. Once we got inside other staff members stood with nothing to do while one person helped us, explaining this was their system to keep things from "getting confusing". Then they couldn't find our check when we went to pay. Overall it seems they should pay their employees better and keep management on-site to help things run more smoothly.

Very cool, historic place. 1906!
We share the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty good. Root beer float and turtle ice cream sundae are very good as well. Service was fast.

Wilson's ice cream is well worth the wait and the $! Healthy (unhealthy 😉) portions of delicious ice cream! Bring cash if you want to save on the costs.
I don't know about the food, but the restaurant section is pretty busy too.

Sat on the outside patio near the road. The service was great, the food was tasty and filling, the root beer was awesome and the ice cream, awww the ice cream... We should have had the ice cream as an appetizer. It was scrumdily-iscious.

The entire experience was delightful! Service was good, they have a decently sized menu, and their ice cream is the star of the show. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area!
Be aware that the ice cream portion sizes are huge, so save room! We each got our own scoops but easily could’ve shared.

The OG ice cream shop. If you didn't go to Wilson's can you even say you were in Door County?

Busy & iconic but it’s honestly a bit chaotic and questionable practices. The young gentleman scooped ice cream then grabbed a handful of nuts bare handed and put them on our sundae- I think using a spoon would be reasonable. His hands were quite literally then covered in hot fudge and he came back over and continued scooping our next bowl. The girl next to him was scooping a waffle cone for another customer, she accidentally broke the cone but just continued scooping ice cream into it while half the cone was broken off.

Dusty roads are my favorite! So are all the ice cream sundaes! It's a go-to when we need an ice cream fix. Food is pretty average. also, it's not wheel chair accessible, just an fyi.

Excellent service. Yummy food. Burgers with fries weren't super expensive, but the ice cream was about as much as the meals! Sat on the patio and it was a bit cramped, but very nice.

if a business never advertises but still has a line out the door, they’re doing something right. staff is always attentive and friendly. food comes in a timely manner, at a very affordable price, especially for in door county. the ice cream prices seem high, but portions are HUGE. a single scoop is NOT one scoop but instead a packed bowl of ice cream pouring out the sides. they also have a good merchandise selection, and the decorations inside are very nice. there’s also a section by the outdoor patio where the whole wall is art of wilson’s done by various artists. definitely recommend, and eat here multiple times during a visit to door county
