Since my last visit approximately 6 months ago, the restaurant was renovated. The atmosphere used to be timeless and cozy. Now it’s contemporary with orange chairs that remind me of what I recall seeing in the Jetson’s cartoon about a space age family. In their attempt to appeal to a younger crowd by making the atmosphere more cutting edge, I wonder if the prices of the entrees will be a deterrent.

My husband and I met a sweet couple at a wine pairing last night who told us about their favorite Italian restaurant, Zarletti and said we should make sure we went when Brian was working behind the bar. We ended up going with them that night and had not only the best Italian food we've ever tasted, but probably one of the best meals! We all sat at the bar and understood why they loved this place and Brian! Outstanding staff, atmosphere, and food! Confident this will be our new favorite place!

This was the best pasta I’ve had in the United States and I’ve been to good Italian restaurants in Chicago, New York and Vegas. We had a group of 7 and everyone raved about their entrees. It’s a tad pricey, but totally worth it. The service and atmosphere were also top notch.

Celebrated our anniversary last night at Zarletti's. Nathan was our waiter and provided excellent service. We were met at the door with two glasses of Prosecco.

Over the years, my husband and I have dined at Zarletti downtown. We have always enjoyed our meals and return about once every few months. This visit was not as anticipated, and never had am questionable meal in the past!
My family gathered for my birthday and experienced a very disappointing visit. The waitress arrived at the table to take my husband's drink order. She excluded me and failed to ask me if I would like anything. Appetizers were ordered and arrived promptly. They were good. Our dinners, however, were served after waiting for some time. Not what we expected on a Monday evening. In addition, all five entrees were NOT hot ... in fact, only mildly warm. A delicious dessert was served to celebrate my birthday. There was "no charge" for dessert, as an apology for the unfortunate incidents incurred during our meal! This unfortunate experience will impact our decision to return in the future.

Great location downtown. The restaurant was able to accommodate our party reservation of nine. The interior is intimate but not tight or crowded. Our party, and all the other guests around us had plenty of room.

The food was delicious. Everyone raved about their selections. I ordered one of the specials for the evening, Ravioli di Bufala (homemade pasta stuffed with ground bison with arrabbiata spicy red sauce - Amazing! The pasta was tender, al dente, and the arrabbiata sauce was the best I’ve ever had (however, I would never say that to my Italian great-grandfather, Nonno!)

I'm really quite agitated by this. Hard to see the wine list without the flashlight from my phone. Difficult to see still, can't decide on a red bottle to order. Server says "we have a featured wine on the special menu". She never mentions a price, but I quickly glance and it's $79, so I thought. Get the bill and it's $144! I tell the server of the mistake and she shows me it's $79 to take out but $144 to drink at the table! It's a menu for the daily features, not for carryout! Food was good, not excellent. Had to push to get our wine, before we were pushed to order. And more pricey than ever. Tables jammed together as server could hardly pour the wine and deliver the food.

My wife excused herself to go to the ladies room because she knows that I will speak my mind and doesn't want to be embarrassed. I have owned , and still do, multiple restaurants, and if this is not a scam, I don't know what is. Ownership at one time was a struggling restauranteur and caring and ethical, but this is my last visit!

Excellent service! Food is good but all Al La cart. I had the veal and it was really fatty. The Bolognese is good and so is the gnocchi. It was very tight in there I kept having to move my chairs to the server could get by maybe space out the place a bit better. I know they want to serve the most tables they can put in there, but you also have to think about moving and the comfort of everyone, customers and staff. Otherwise it was good. Wine was excellent, loved the olive oil with the bread, best olive oil I've had in a long time! The cannolis, also delicious!

A delicious option for a fancy dinner. It is expensive, but it is definitely worth it. I highly recommend the mushroom pasta option, and I got it with sautéed shrimp. The pera cocktail was very good. Went there for a birthday dinner and had an absolutely amazing experience! Excellent service from Bryan and the food and wine could not be beat. Had a unique opportunity to have a bottle of Sardinian wine and we were blown away. The bolognese and ravioli were absolutely delicious, and the burrata appetizer with prosciutto was amazing as well. Service is A++, very attentive, knowledgeable and personal. Food is outstanding… we usually start with Bruschetta and it’s one of the best I’ve had. Soups are full of flavor - Tomato Basil was the special, Im a basil freak and had to have a cup, it was phenomenal.

The entrees we chose were Ossobuco and Ravioli ai Quattro Formaggi with sautéed shrimp….and explosion of flavor in every bite.

Went to Zarletti for my birthday. We had a group of 8, and they took reservations. We were seated timely, our service was excellent, and the food was so good. I got the chicken marcala. First time here from out of town, i sat at the bar for dinner as I was dining alone. The bar tender was very friendly, attentive and had some good suggestions on the menu. I ended up starting with the mussels which were excellent, the sauce was great to dip the warm bread in. The Carbonara was good as well, I thought the portion size was good, in house made pasta, cooked slightly al denté which is exactly how it should be. Very nice. The wine selection is good, with plenty of great Italian wines to choose from, and even wines by the glass had a nice selection. It was a pleasant experience. I will be back.

We’ve been here 2x in the last 2 weeks. Low lit so the pics aren’t great but the food is all amazing. Valet and street parking available (free after 6p I think too). Zarletti’s is always food prepared well. Two criticisms exist each time I visit. First is that presented with specials of the day prices should be included or expressed by the server. A diner shouldn’t have to ask. It’s uncomfortable for all concerned and unnecessary.
The second relates to GF. Having a GF option available for pasta is very nice. But a $4 addition to the price for something that is not preferential but necessary is a slap in the face even if they do make their own. It says “we don’t really want to do it, but if you insist we will.” As GF pasta is never worth the calories, the added cost makes this menu option easy to pass up.
Unfortunately then secondo options as backup are minimal. Having eaten my way around Italy I am aware that flour is not necessary to this portion of an Italian meal. And yet it is at Zarletti’s. Having to eat GF, and having eaten here four times, I have tried all that is possible with two of those choices being specials. Eating the special of the day can possibly be GF but with prices not listed, there’s a 50/50 chance of being costly and prohibitive so the check can be a surprise if you don’t ask the uncomfortable and obvious question. What is bothersome though is that many of the secondo options could easily be GF as would exist in Italy but there is no desire to make it so. So what remains is a sense that GF is not welcome.
When all is considered, Zarletti’s is great food. If you’re GF and plan to eat here often your dining options are limited and possibly more costly.
Atmosphere rec’d 3 stars because the music is too loud for the small space and the selection doesn’t add to ambiance but is rather an annoyance.

My fault for not taking a photo…..We dined at Zarletti this week. Nice place downtown. Good atmosphere for Milwaukee. Our server was good but it was on the empty side so I think her long periods away from the table would have been worse if it was busy. The food was good. All 4 of our entries tasted good. The issue comes in serving 2 ounces of pasta and charging $28. Yes I understand restaurants have overheads and other costs but the actual cost of pasta is not one of them. Like I said I should have taken a photo to let you decide if it was worth $28. (It wasn’t). The city can make fun of Cracker Barrel all it wants but you get what you pay for.

We went here for my birthday over the weekend. The food was incredible! There were 3 of us, and we all shared bites of our entrées, which we all agreed the 3 were all amazing.

Unfortunately it was our first time here, and it didn't meet expectation overall. When we were first seated, we saw them celebrating another table's birthday at which point my mom mentioned how it was my birthday and the server said aww yeah we will take care of that at the end. At the end we decided to peek at the dessert menu, but the server seemed off put when we decided not to get anything. Then she brought us our check quickly, and scurried off. After we paid my mom pointed out how she didn't acknowledge my birthday. She wanted to say something to the server, and I said forget about it the moment passed. I'm also not one to make a fuss.

Overall I would go back because it was an amazing experience up until the server forgot to acknowledge the reason we were there. I'd say check this place out, but maybe not to celebrate a birthday or special occasion.

The first time I tried to dine there it turned out that they are closed on Tuesdays. (That would have been good to discover earlier since lots of restaurants are closed on mondays and I'm always looking for a monday night place) They have serious Italian offerings and are within walking distance of most downtown hotels. The setting is small but intimate. Service was great. The salmon was great as expected but I couldn't resist the bruschetta as well

2nd visit. Same result. Pasta alla Carbonara with a little Caesar salad and I swear there were anchovies in there somewhere. Service was swift and efficient. Pricing is commensurate with the quality of the experience. I'd definitely recommend reservations even if you just want to sit at the bar. Great date night destination if I didn't live so far away

Went to Zarletti before a concert at the Riverside. The staff was accommodating and informative when helping me reserve a time so I could enjoy my dinner fully before heading out for the concert. Extensive wine list and creative classic cocktail menu. Beautiful, warm ambiance with a contemporary soundtrack at the perfect volume. Plush leather club chairs without a bad seat in the in house.

We were made to feel like VIPs by our server, Morgan, who suggested an excellent starter of bruschetta. Followed by the soup de jour of broccoli cream with Parmesan. Exquisite.

I had the ossobuco on a previous visit, and cannot recommend this dish highly enough. Strauss veal shanks perfectly braised in a wine reduction and vegetables served with ricotta stuffed wheat flour gnocchi. Absolutely sublime!

My dining companion ordered the pappardelle con funghi for her main and there was not a drop of sauce left on the plate.

I opted for the quattro formaggio ravioli. Fantastic with tiny cubed zucchini and bell peppers lacing the delectable presentation.

While we had no room for dessert, the espresso con latte was a wonderful digestif. Again, there is an amazing list of amari and port to conclude your meal.

Everything from making reservations, to arrival and being immediately seated (early), to the entire dining experience here speaks to Zarletti’s care and attention to detail.

We were walking down the sidewalk and I saw these beautiful Bar Stools from the Window and I said .. let’s go here. I love the look of this place.. I was so happy to enter as one of the first guests .. we sat at the bar for one drink as we were just doing our own progressive adventure of MKE.. Brian our Bartender Supreme provided lovely drinks and the story of this unique and wonderful experience. The interior was the cleanest and most well cared for establishment.. the staff felt like they were a lovely family that invited you to their home. We had an appetizer of steak magic and got some guidance on other places to check out. Everything Brian suggested was perfection! I really enjoy a very clean and tidy establishment and Zarletti exceeded all expectations!This is a must go to in MKE and 19 years running!

The worst restaurant in town. Upsold and charged for my choice of salad.on a $30 dinner. Had to ask for bread and not liquid butter!!! I order the ravioli special of the evening. The waiter then offered me and my 81 year old Aunt, who ordered the salmon, a choice of salads. Since he offered, we assumed they came with dinner. We actually were looking for soup. They had none. He never brought bread. He said, it was given at request, only. So, we requested it.I'm from Detroit, visiting my Aunt. He charged my aunt $16 each, for two side salads that were served on a bread and butter plate, known as a b&b plate, I have been in the restaurant business for 40 years. I'm thinking of calling the police! $32 dollars for 2, half size ceasers, plus the cost of our meals. I went to the lady's room and found my aunt being harassed by the host. HORRIFIC!

Every time we visit Zarlettis we leave thinking the food was even better than the time before. They have an outstanding selection of pasta (home made options) and an extensive list of beautiful wines. They are always happy to suggest the perfect wine to be paired specifically with your entree (Bryan is an incredible sommelier). Don’t even get me started on the homemade desserts - just go ahead and order one of each. I highly recommend Zarlettis - both the food and the service are top notch and always exceed expectations. Definitely make a reservation to ensure you get a table.

Not one to leave bad reviews but my husband and I were left questioning our own existence after leaving this place… we had a great meal but we were asked to leave as we were still enjoying our drinks because “the table behind us was here.” Felt rushed the whole time and like the staff was sweating to get us out of there ASAP.

So, have to say, been here before with an exceptional experience this time, not so much. I ordered the veal with gorgonzola mashed potatoes along with the stuffed calamari for an appetizer. Our server was Enzo who was truly amazing and was on cue. When my plate was presented, I was so thrilled as it looked amazing. Veal was great but with the anticipation of having mashed potatoes encorporated with gorgonzola cheese, I was hugely disappointed bite after bite I'm anticipation of any gorgonzola whatsoever. Yes, there were sprinkles of gorgonzola (lightly) on top of my potatoes but when I read gorgonzola, mashed potatoes, am I the only one who invisions the cheese thoroughly mixed within?! Upon bringing it to Enzo's attention, he overly apologized, no reflection on him whatsoever. But again, if you give a customer a menu stating food presentation and ingredients, meet your expectations. If a customer wants it on the side, apologize as it's mashed potatoes. Not sprinkled mashed. Sorry, just sadly very disappointed.

Took my fiancé here for Valentines Day, and it’s safe to say this establishment sets a new standard for eating out on a special date or holiday. We ordered a red blend bottle and it was served so professionally. Our waiter took the time to describe features of the menu for the evening and made recommendations. We both had the onion soup and loved it. Our appetizer was bruschetta and we adored the fresh ingredients used and quality of bread served. Both of our pasta entrees were fantastic and we were happy to have some leftover for the next day. Thank you to all the staff that work diligently here!

Excellent food but forgot my request for birthday. Even after they called me 3 hours before to confirm the reservation and confirm it was for a birthday. Not a big deal but when the waiter asked if we wanted dessert I was like um noooo? And gave him a wink thinking they'd still bring him a bday treat with candle...nope. like I said not big deal but at a place this nice I'd think they'd pay closer attention to those details especially after confirming it with me verbally before we arrived.

A review too late but much needed along the way. I went here for my birthday, the atmosphere was great, but what really took me away is the server was more focused on pronouncing everything in Italian rather than explaining to me what I’m really eating. All the plates we ordered were mediocre, on top of that the drinks were bland other than their old fashion. The wine recommendation was weak, and the birthday dessert was a bite sized cookie lol, by far a weak experience by a restaurant of this caliber. I personally would head elsewhere for my birthday, and potentially hit this restaurant on an off day to see it for what it is. On a special day, forget about it.

Had the most wonderful experience for dinner at Zarletti’s last night. Made reservations for a night downtown and was overwhelmed. Most amazing service and the food was amazing. We were there for the first time today and it won't be the last. Food was incredibly delicious and atmosphere was fantastic. Zarletti was excellent. As a bit of an Italian aficionado, I highly recommend Zarletti. The food was excellent; upper echelon quality for the Italian food available to the Milwaukee area. Limited options, as they should be. Changing menu that stays seasonal. Amazing ingredients. Salads and appetizers were excellent. Pasta dishes were very true to Italian tradition, some with slight allowable additions. Secondi was extremely well prepared. Drink menu covers all the bases and drinks were well prepared. Service was exquisite; friendly, knowledgeable, going above and beyond to provide an enjoyable experience. A pricey and upscale atmosphere appropriate to date night and special occasions. Make a reservation and dress well. Enjoy!
