The food was decent but when I asked about the mashed potatoes, I was informed they weren't made in house. Weird. We ordered deep fried pickles, they came out half burnt and French fry size. My son and I had the Cod and it was okay. The dinner rolls tasted store bought and old. The service was okay but when you have 2 servers trying to service the whole restaurant, its not easy.
The reason for the 3 stars is because my son and I are allergic to dogs. After we arrived we both started sneezing and our nose was running. I started to have a hard time breathing. We didnt realize why until the table next to us got up and left. They had a Dog at there table. Not a service dog but an emotional support dog, which shouldn't be allowed in the restaurant. If your going to allow dogs at least let the other customers know the dog is there. Some of us can have severe reactions to dogs. I did say something to the host and her response was " I have 2 dogs, and you didnt tell me your allergic" why would I, Im not expecting a dog in your tiny restaurant.

This is a great place! We were staying at a nearby hotel and We went there to get a quick meal to go and ended up staying to chat with the regulars! I'm glad we didn't see the reviews on the other sites first. We had a great time. Service by Jen and Blue was friendly, prompt, and attentive. The Brussels sprouts, amazing. I was in town on business, and I have heard good things about Zeman's, so I decided to stop in for dinner. The bartender was fast, attentive, and has a good sense of humor. He did a great job. I ordered the pan seared walleye and doubled up on mashed potatoes. The food arrived sooner than I expected, which is always nice. In this day in age, it's a rarity to get HOT food when it gets to you. My meal was piping hot, and incredibly delicious. One of the best meals, and dining experiences I have ever had. I live in Kentucky, so I rarely get to the Midwest. Zeman's is warm, inviting, and I highly recommend it. I will definitely be back.

Amazing! We stopped in, again over the winter. It was still packed in the 'Dells off-season'. That should tell you everything you need to know.
I eased out of my comfort zone and tried the legendary Saturday prime rib. Holy Moly, completely surprised that a chunk of meat this size could taste this good. Get double dipping sauce!!

Stopped in on our way up North! The place was packed! It was a Friday night so of course we tried the fish fry! We tried the combo plate, 2 pieces of breaded cod, 2 breaded shrimp, we opted for the sidewinder fries. The fish was good, the breading ok. The shrimp were severely overcooked. The sidewinder fries were excellent. We also tried the stuffed shrimp. There were 5 large shrimp with a mushroom duxelle and crab stuffing topped with hollandaise sauce and melted cheese. Neither of us cared for these, I was looking for a more crab forward filling, they were definitely kind of wet. We opted to get the salad bar as well, typical WI salad bar, delicious. We tried the fried Brussel sprout appetizer which came with a horseradish sauce, these were pretty good. The dinner rolls were soft, fresh and very good. Our server was phenomenal. The bus girl on top of things like clearing plates, getting drink refills and bringing boxes.
It is VERY VERY VERY LOUD, great for a bar, not as great for dinner. The bathrooms are by the front door and although they were clean they keep the doors open, kind of uncomfortable as it is b the front door.
We would probably try this place again as they have quite a menu, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again.

Very disappointed in the ownership. Food has always been good, but unfortunately we will not be dinning there anymore.

My husband and I dined here for dinner tonight, and upon leaving witnessed the owner upset that there was a sheriffs deputy parked on the opposite side of the parking lot facing the back road. She proceeded to “fast walk” over there and told the deputy to leave. He was a good distance away not disturbing the business in anyway.

Our officers and deputy’s put their lives on the line everyday to keep our community safe. As a wife of a law enforcement officer I will not support a business that does not respect or welcome law enforcement. I will be sure to let all the law enforcement agencies and members of our community know.

service was slow! 40 minute wait for a table at 5pm. Bartender was rude when we only ordered sodas. Baked fish serving was so small, 2 pieces about the size and width of half a hot dog. Stale rolls. Added on salad bar for an additional $5, we were given a tiny salad plate and tiny bowl to use at the salad bar. We were seated at a 4 person table. I was asked to please remove my purse from one of the extra chairs because the chair was needed at another table. Took forever to get our entrees and then our check. Food was mediocre. For dinner we had one person ordered French onion soup and it arrived without a spoon or any crackers. I ordered the chicken marsala and it was truly not good. The sauce had no seasonings or flavor. This dish should be created with cream, wine and lots flavor. The consistency of the sauce was like they mixed up an instant packet of gravy with water and threw it on. I could not eat it. I had my friends try it as well and they agreed. We had the cordon bleu chicken which was not bad but also not much flavor. The best dish at our table was the chicken parmesan and apparently the burger and fries was decent. I think that they need to really work on seasoning their meals. Having good flavor is so important for someone to want to order it again. There was only one server and she was young and very pleasant. When we arrived it wasn't busy but it seemed to take forever to get anywhere with drinks and orders and with the food coming. Our server did have help from other workers that delivered our food and drinks which was nice. It also took a really long time to get our checks. We brought up the fact that the chicken marsala was just really not right and that I couldn't eat it and they simply took $2.40 off. Over all I I'm not sure that I would recommend this place.

I ordered the smothered chicken late on a Tuesday night, sitting down at the bar with no expectations. The meal was one of the best I've ever had. Every single ingredient was perfectly cooked and top quality. The chicken was cooked just right covered in fresh and flavorful caramelized onions, peppers and mushrooms. The green beans were fresh... Literally everything on the plate was perfection. The service was kind, quick, and the environment was what you'd expect in a small town pub and grill. Give the cook their due, maybe it was because I visited later in the evening on a Tuesday, and got their full attention. When I come back to Baraboo, I have a spot to take out friends and family.

We walked in and should have walked out. The person at the bar didn't say hello, but we did and stood confused at the door. She told us to find any table we wanted and have a seat. The dining area was filled with odd old mismatched tables and chairs that seemed found on the curbs of Baraboo.
5 minutes later a young server came to the table and asked for our drink order. She was not very welcoming, much like the bartender female at the entry.
I added curds to the order with our drinks. 15 minutes later we still didn't have our drinks. I watched the server bring drinks to the one other table with a party of 8. I saw her in back talking to a young person and then saw her in front of a bright screen seeming to be playing a game behind the bar while talking to another worker.
I went to the bar where the bartender was doing nothing but then turned and put a sloppy drink on the bar and said to the girl behind the bar that this must be one of your drinks. I took my seat again and the server brought our two drinks and set them down. The ice was barely frozen, the drinks were watery and had little taste at all. One was an old fashioned and it was nearly clear (typically darker brown in color) and the vodka sprite was mostly water and had no carbonation and very little vodka.
We had now been there almost 20 minutes and I asked where our cheese curds were. A worker said she'd check and I said please give me the check also right away. Before looking into where our food was, she brought us our check for $20 ($9 was charged for the curds we never received). I took the check to the bar to ask for the curds to be removed and that I'd like to pay for the two drinks.
The bartender was so annoyed that I expected to have my drinks and food (two drinks and one order of cheese curds) in under 20 minutes.
She told me to just go... don't worry about it.
What an absolute waste of our time.
This place is filthy, there is no service at all, no one even wants you to come in...just stay away.

My husband and I are visiting from Northern Wisconsin for a convention this week and after a full day of exploring the area then taking time to relax, we were in the mood for real food but no where to be found near the conference center in Lake Delton we are staying at. Went there recently with my wife. I ordered the bacon cheese burger and she ordred the steak. I ask for medium rare and it came out well done. There was ZERO taste to my well done burger, only salt. I hate to give a low review but the food was AWFUL. We ordered the Wisco burgers and the roasted Brussels and it was not good. The Brussels were completely scorched and burned. The Wisco burgers we both ordered came super well done despite being ordered medium and there were 3 whole cheese curds on each burger they also had no flavor or seasoning except the heinous amount of ketchup I had to add. Not only that but they didn’t come with any garnish. It was a plain burger with a bacon jam ( that sucked) and 3 curds. It was also supposed to be spicy but wasn’t. The server was nice. Also the spotted cow on tap was $8 a glass like wow! I have never experienced such high cost for a local beer that I get all the time! $8 is insane!!! Please avoid this place! Don’t go here!

I hate leaving negative reviews for a business like this as it seems like a Mom and Pop type place that wants to do well but I was very disappointed. We hadn't been to the Highway House for literally 30+ years. It was our go to when we were younger and wanted prime rib. It was worth the 20 mile drive then when we lived in a nearby town, but not now. We no longer live in the area but were traveling through Baraboo and saw the Highway House was still open, or at least re-opened in the same place with same name. We stopped around 6:30 on a Saturday night and were seated, without reservations, within 15 minutes. We each had an old fashioned which was made with pre-made mix-- a big No-No if you want to call yourself a Wisconsin supper club. The drink was mediocre.
My wife had petite prime rib with 3 grilled shrimp added for additional $10. The prime rib was ok but not wow! like we remembered from years ago. The shrimp was, well, grilled shrimp. No cocktail sauce was offered until we asked.
I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs-- terrible! They were NOT baby back ribs. They were the thick, fatty and what felt like steamed pork ribs by their texture. There was little or no seasoning on them. There was a bland barbecue sauce added on top but obviously added right before it was brought out. It wasn't tough but certainly not fall-off-the bone tender and had no smoked or grilled taste at all. The thick meat came off the bone stringy. They tasted like pigs smell. Not good at all. I only ate about 1/4 of them. It's laughable they actually call them BABY BACK ribs. I'm not one to complain to staff or send food back once I get it as who knows what you'll get back or what will be in it if they give you a replacement. The people were nice, service was 7/10 and the place has potential. I hope it can get back to what it used to be. I may give them another shot when in the area as I like to support places like this but I won’t be ordering the ribs for sure.
Biggest upside was the prices were extremely reasonable.

We were told. A 40 minute wait and sent to the basement bar with our party of 6 and a buzzer to alert us our table was ready. We checked back twice and found different parties of 4 seated at the 6 person tables each time. After 1.5 hrs, we finally went back up to the main dining room and hovered by the hostess to get a table. By that time there was no wait time for anyone coming in so we got a table.

The Mrs. and I stayed in town for the weekend and stopped by on a Friday, but took a pass when presented with a 45 minute wait time. We came back the next day before the dinner rush and were seated right away. The prime rib was good, but Sidewinders were great. You know what, get a sandwich with a couple baskets of Sidewinders and a couple of pints and you’ll be good. With Badger football on TV, it’s money in the bank!

Went in to eat with three other people, got our drinks and ordered our food. They brought out our two French onion soups we ordered and they came with no cheese, then my chili came out and the bowl was covered in lint/hair. We then decided to just pay for our drink and leave because the level of cleanliness wasn’t right and she went to get out check. They tried to have us pay for a salad and onion rings that weren’t even brought to the table and the soups/chili that were untouched. We left $3 for the soda and left. Would not recommend. Also tried to leave this review on Facebook but couldn’t attach photos because the feature was turned off.
